Bennett had the world in the palm of his hands when he was sixteen, then he allowed his dick to do the thinking for him.
That one night changed his life, giving him a child that would forever alter the course of his life, and an ex that was a crazy nut case on the best of days.
With the help of his parents, he went into the Navy, becoming the SEAL that he always wanted to be. However, with that came a price.
A price he wasn’t willing to pay anymore once his little girl started to realize why he wasn’t there. So he came home and joined the local SWAT team, starting his life anew, just his daughter and him.
Then he meets the cute little physician’s assistant that looks down at him like one would an annoying fly, and he finally realizes just what he’s been missing.
Something that takes his mind off of the challenge of everyday life. Someone that dares him to be a better father and police officer.
And Lennox is one hell of a motivator.
Their relationship starts off rocky as the two of them circle each other like opponents ready to do combat rather than two civil adults. Every day brings a new battle for the two of them to overcome, and before they realize it, they’ll be fighting for each other instead of against each other.
Because there’s one woman who doesn’t want either one of them to be happy…especially not together.
Lani Lynn Vale is married to the love of her life that she met in high school. She fell in love with him because he was wearing baseball pants. Ten years later they have three perfectly crazy children and a cat named Demon who likes to wake her up at ungodly times in the night. They live in the greatest state in the world, Texas. She writes contemporary and romantic suspense, and has a love for all things romance. You can find Lani in front of her computer writing away in her fictional characters world...that is until her husband and kids demand sustenance in the form of food and drink.
Another fantastic addition to this series, there seriously has not been one book that I haven't liked and that's unusual for me BUT Michael is up next and from his previous appearances and what his friends say, I have a feeling he might be the one. Anywho back to Benny and Nox, these two started off as hysterical enemies, trading barbs at Lennox's place of work, but it wasn't long before their attraction took over and they couldn't keep away. Sadly a devil from both their pasts decides she's not happy for the couple to have their HEA doing everything in her power to destroy them, which she very nearly accomplishes. I love Lennox, though I think the either needs to do a bit more research into certain medical conditions if she writes about them, Lennox is everything I want to be and more. Bennett is an amazing single father, doing an expert job of raising a perfect, precocious daughter. Together they make everything right. I loved this.
2.5 Stars This has been in my TBR for many years. I’m sure I picked it up because of the crazy ex… and she’s absolutely nuts… but this is NA… and it shows.
The H (Bennett) meets the h (Lennox) when he has to go to the ER. For some reason, she hates him and acts completely unprofessional. The two run into each other when his 8-year-old daughter throws a french fry at a restaurant and gets ketchup on her pants. 🙄
“You did this, you awful, awful man!” She declared loudly.
Cuz that’s how normal adults act.
The rest is an insta-love-lust between two over emotional borderline immature (especially the h- which always confuses me because in my experience girls mature earlier 🤷♀️) with a crazy ex stalker causing drama.
My biggest grump is that I just don’t enjoy the NA tone. I never did… even when I was a new adult. I like drama but not over-emotional/immature people. Maybe its supposed to be funny, but I find 26 yr.-old women acting like this…
“This is like…life or death. It’s massive. My face hasn’t broken out this much since I was sixteen! I’m twenty freakin’ six! I’m dying!” I declared, rather loudly, too.
…childish not cute. 🤷♀️
Bottom Line- Not a great fit for me, but it’s a Jac thing so I’ll round up.

Amei a história!
------------------- I loved the story! We have a crazy stalker, problems with crazy ex, very cool heroine, gay best friend, alpha male hero, cute kid and best of all is that the characters of the previous books make an appearance in the story. This author is one of my favorites and I keep an eye on her work. I highly recommend!
PS: A capa não combina com o herói! Cadê a barba??? #coverwhore
Bennett and Lennox were crazy together but in the best of ways. Crazy passion and crazy humor with some pretty emotional moments I found had me in tears. Lani had quite a few differences in this story line and I noticed a slight change in her writing style. There was the same exciting suspense and mystery. A passionate love story between two stubborn yet interesting characters. Some side elements distracted me a little but wasn't too over the top. The flow just felt a little off for me as I simply don't find too much that bothers me about Lani Lynn Vale so when something like elements I don't read normally in my romance pops up suddenly it takes me a moment to get back into the story line. Didn't take too long as this author wraps you in electric and sexy story line and the hours fly by. I adored every single moment with Reagan and Lennox getting to know each other. I was very disappointed in Bennett though for a while. He did groveling well at least and I'm so glad they got a beautiful HEA.
Now Michael's story is calling my name and Silas story has me in nervous fits..so totally gonna push my boundaries. I just can't wait for more from Lani. So ready.
Bennett made a mistake years ago by getting a girl pregnant, but he never wavered on his love for his child and has raised her the best way a single father can. As a member of a SWAT team he knows his job is dangerous but protecting others is what he was born to do. When he ends up in the ER, he meets feisty physician assistant Lennox. Something about her pulls him to her and after another incident has Lennox meeting his daughter, he decides to see where it leads.
Lennox doesn't want a relationship, she can agree to a friends with benefits situation though and is enjoying every heated moment they have together. However, Bennett is slowly easing Lennox into relationship status even if she is not admitting it. When Bennett's ex makes an appearance tough and threatens custody, he has to put his daughter first and Lennox will do whatever she can to protect them both.
This one surprised me, had a few twists I did not see coming. Loved Lennox, she is trying to protect her heart with Bennett. Bennett is fully invested in all things Lennox, but getting her to understand it is a bit harder than he thought. Another fantastic Lani Lynn Vale read.
The story has laughs, pain, murder, secrets, suspense, love, and heartbreak.
If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first Center Mass (Code 11-KPD Swat) Double Tap (Code 11- KPD SWAT #2) Bang Switch (Code 11-KPD Swat #3) Execution Style (Code 11-KPD Swat #4) Charlie Foxtrot (Code 11-KPD Swat #5)
This is Lennox and Bennett’s story. Lennox and Bennett meet and have a few interesting encounters. What pulls them together is that Lennox and Bennett are both a little crazy and funny as hell. The more they see each other the more they are drawn together. They have both been burnt in the past so it takes them time to trust. Misunderstandings and there past just might be the thing to keep them apart. Will they be able to handle the crazy that ensues? One stalker and one crazy ex are about to bring them both down. When it comes down to it will there past collide and leave a tragedy in its wake? Or will that tragedy be then thing that brings them back together?
I loved these characters and also the side characters. I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next story from this author.
I know. I’m just as shocked as you are. There were some complaints, but the rest of the book was so good that there’s no way I was going to dock it for those things, especially because they’re the same type of complaints I have in ALL of her books.
First, it’s so important to read these in order, even more important to read them close together, unless you have an excellent memory. I’d read other books in between these and it took several weeks to finish and by that time I had forgotten a lot of character details. Anyway…..
Bennett (SWAT, single dad, our sweet Benny Bear) meets feisty Lennox (physician’s assistant, commitment issues) when he ends up in the ER needing stiches. They have an immediate attraction but they clash with each other because neither of them like or put up with bullsh*t. I spent a good amount of time laughing at the beginning of this book. They were hilarious together. Bennett is a single dad to Reagan. The birth mother signed her rights away almost at birth. He hates his ex because she’s a psycho b*tch. Lennox has a psycho stalker. She knows who the stalker is but is unable to catch them in the act. No matter how many times Lennox moves, changes her #, or anything else – the stalker always finds her. Bennett’s ex comes back into the picture and wreaks havoc on the couple. Then Lennox has a medical condition that she neglected to tell Bennett about (more on that below).
For the most part, Bennett is super loving and attentive in the relationship. There’s only two parts where they fight and he’s willing to apologize to her. There was also smoking hot sex, which was just the cherry on top for me.
Issue that appears in all of LLV’s books. She repeats herself.
He levered himself up, offering me his hand. “sorry about that”, he said, offering me his hand.
He murmured. Eyes void of any emotion. I nodded. “ok.” I nodded. “I’ll just leave you alone. Call me when you want me to come back over.” He nodded.
It’s just lazy writing.
There’s also this thing where LLV makes the biggest deals out of small things. In this book, Lennox has diabetes. She has to take insulin. Remember, she’s a physician’s assistant. So instead of telling Bennett that she has diabetes, she chooses to hide it from him, even going without her insulin. It’s when she nearly faints because of it that she tells him. That’s when he leaves her alone for a few days because he feels like if she can’t trust him with that, then she’s not committed to the relationship. If she can’t keep up with her own diabetes then I’m not sure I’d trust her as my nurse/doc.
In one other books, the FMC didn’t want to tell the guy that she had ADHD because she didn’t want to scare him off. Um…. It’s ADHD, not cancer.
Then their big fight that nearly ends them for good. Something bad happens to Bennett and instead of talking to Lennox about it, he tells her he needs some time alone. But it’s like 3 weeks of him totally ignoring her. He doesn’t answer her calls. It pissed me off that everyone kept telling her not to give up on him. IDK – you know I’m not a forgiving person. Anyway, she’s heartbroken. Then something happens to her and he realizes that he’s been a complete and total ass.
Overall, I loved it – especially compared to all the other books. I loved them as a couple. I loved Bennett. I would even SHOCKED INHALE read this again!!
I was given this book for an honest review. Kill Shot (Code 11-KPD SWAT Book 6) by Lani Lynn Vale, I’ve been looking forward to this since her first series Freebirds when Barrett is a secondary character in Max and Payton story.
Fast forward to now when Barrett is a twenty-five year old single father to Reagan who is now eight year old. He joined the Navy Seal at seventeen years old, then after leaving the Navy joined the SWAT team in his hometown. You’ve got Lennox who is twenty-six years old who is a physician’s assistant at a very young age. From the beginning of their story you could tell they had some kind of connection. Yes, it was sexual at first, but grew into something more than neither of them thought it would be. As well Lennox is dealing with a crazy stalker during this time, while Bennett is as well dealing with a career, being a single dad and dealing with mother of his child who left after Reagan was born. I loved how Lennox interacted not only with Bennett, but as well Reagan who she didn’t mind being around.
Of course, you’ll get to see Bennet’s family in this story and of course the funny as always Payton. At first these two decided to have a friend with benefits, but they both knew it was growing into much more. Along the way they are dealing with Corrine which is Lennox stalker. I was shocked to find out the connection between Corrine and Bennett, but I kind of figured it had to be her. I’m not going to lie, I cried badly when I thought just maybe this was not going to end well. This group of friends has always had each other’s back no matter what.
We always deal with some series issues throughout this book with Lennox that at times it was hard for her to ask for help even though she knew that she needed it. In this book you will get the drama that comes with this story, as well the love and friendship throughout this whole book. Yes, you’ll get some really good sex scenes that fit this story to the point. I love these stories that Lani Lynn Vale keeps writing for us. I’m glued to my kindle from the first page till the last page of every story she writes, I just don’t want them to end. I enjoy reading a book about everyday life of an officer or medical person to see how they juggle everyday life with their personal life.
What can I say about this book? Is that you must read this book and find out how Bennett grew up to be a really good man, but also an awesome father to his daughter. I promise you’ll love it as much as I have plus Lani Lynn Vale never disappoints in the books she writes for us.
Bennett & Lennox sitting on a tree K.I.S.S.I.N.G Well these two did way more than kiss that's for sure!!
BENNETT definitely met his match with LENNOX.. she was all hard core steal on the outside but so vulnerable and insecure on the inside which was perfect IMO... Lennox was all sass and heart but you had to earn that love... Bennett wasn't dealt an easy hand but being the Bomb Diggity single Dad won him some serious brownie points..Again another fun, witty, action packed story.. Tons of laugh out loud moments with still that attention grabbing undertone of suspense.. I cannot emphasis enough how much I enjoy catching up with old characters and getting the lay of the land on what comes next!!!
So I love Lani! We all know that. I think her books are fabulous! And this series is by far my absolute favorite of hers! But this book? I think it was my least fav in the series, not that's not to say I didn't like it, I did, it just wasn't up to par with others before it.
Nox was a strong female lead, I loved her, I loved Cola, I especially loved that she has a gay best friend (They always seem to be the best lol) She was a real firecracker, especially drunk ;)
Bennett was my problem shockingly. He was childish more often than not and I had a real problem with some of the insults he flung at Nox shortly after their first and second meeting. Had I been Nox, his balls would have been in my hands.
BUT it was only the beginning that really annoyed me. I loved everything after they finally got together! Bennett is a tiger ;) And the way he stands up to Nox's dad was swoon worthy!
I did love this book! I will and have recommended it!
Like in the last book where the author never explains if Blake and her mother's relationship ever improved or stayed the same, this book doesn't tell how Corrinne was able to get hold of Lennox's information so easily.
In the first series, she gives you almost too much information. But it seems once she has an editor and/or a publisher, she starts missing things. Probably to keep the word count down. So strange.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ohhh one of my favorite books in this series, I loved the story of Bennett and Lennox =D
What I particularly liked : - their first meeting which made me laugh so much (their second too xD) - the single dad trope =) Plus I loved Reagan (whom I already loved as an adult in Too Bad So Sad =D) - the romance that was both light and fun (the declaration of love xD) but also sexy - the crazy ex with a super scary stalker option >< I loved all the drama around that (but this end !!! THIS END!!!) - the secondary characters, especially her best friend Paxton who made me laugh a lot, but also their two families who I adored !!
In short, a romance that I devoured from start to finish !
This book is the sixth in Lani Lynn Vale’s best-selling Code 11-KPD SWAT series, and it focuses on Bennett Alvarez, SWAT Team member, police officer, resident at the Free compound (from the Freebirds series) and single dad to daughter, Reagan Rose. Lennox Jane, the heroine, is a physician’s assistant, daughter of two renowned doctors and the repeated victim of a long-time stalker.
“I’m not some little girl that needs his directions. I’m a grown woman who has opinions and makes her own decisions.”
Lennox, a physician’s assistant, is fiercely independent. Strictly a friends with benefits kind of girl, she does not do relationships, and she most certainly does not do them with controlling, domineering men. Within minutes of meeting him – while he’s in the ER for some stitches – Lennox determines controlling is probably Bennett’s middle name seeing as it’s his most prominent personality trait. Oh, she readily admits that he is undeniably hot, but she’s not going there. She’s BTDT with the controlling boyfriends, she’s got the t-shirt and is using it as a dust rag. What she’s not doing is going down that road again.
“I loved the little girl to death, even when she was being a turd…”
Bennett is definitely attracted to Lennox. He’s intrigued, there’s something different about this woman, but he doesn’t quite understand it. He immediately dismisses it, though, deeming her to be too high maintenance. He’s got enough to deal with in the demanding female department with his handful of a daughter, eight-year-old Reagan, whom this single dad has full custody of and is raising alone.
“I fucking love you…”
The more they see each other, though, the harder it becomes to ignore the pull between them. Unable to deny this crackling attraction any longer, Nox and Bennett give in, thus beginning a sizzling friends-with-benefits relationship. The more time they spend together, the better they get to know each other and the deeper each one falls, until neither can pretend that there isn’t something much deeper than FWB going on here.
Unbeknownst to them, they share a common bond in an evil enemy. Corinne. To Bennett, she is his high school ex-girlfriend, his first love and the mother of Reagan who has no role in his daughter’s life at all. To Lennox, she is a former college classmate. A mentally unstable, former classmate who has held a grudge against her for years, one that started in college with constant harassment and vicious physical attacks. A crazy person that has been stalking her and wreaking all kinds of havoc in Lennox’s life for years in an insane reign of terror designed to exact her twisted retribution upon Lennox.
“No sane person would think that something like this would work.”
It is no secret by now to followers of Red Cheeks Reads that I am a die-hard Lani Lynn Vale fan. I make no apologies for this or for my love of this author’s work. It always but always brings me pleasure to read one of her books, and they never, ever disappoint me. Lani’s sense of humor, the type of alpha heroes she writes and as well as the smart, sarcastic and witty woman she creates all add up to a surefire hit for me. What can I say? She always checks off all my boxes!
The mark of any author is the way they personalize their books, leaving little marks of themselves that make their work unique and special. Ms. Vale has done this with incredible success, and I have no doubt that those hysterical little quotes that kick off each chapter of every single one of Lani Lynn Vale’s 19 books have a cult following. For me, they are as eagerly anticipated as the story itself, and they are absolutely one of the best parts of any of her books. Pure awesomeness, uniquely Vale and, without question, her signature. I often find myself thinking of her whenever I see a funny t-shirt, bumper sticker, coffee mug or eCard.
I enjoyed Kill Shot so very much, and it was another hit for the talented Lani Lynn Vale. Five big, fat, smackin’ SMOOCHES for Lani Lynn Vale’s Kill Shot from me!
Just like all of Vale’s alpha heroes, Bennett Alvarez is a demanding, take charge, hot as hell protector who works hard for his family, his daughter, and the other members on his team. And, even though this smooth talker may be a little accident prone, his trips to the hospital put him in the path of a spunky and independent Physician Assistant who, despite being afraid of commitment and a controlling boyfriend, can’t help her body’s reaction to Bennett or the connection that seems to spark from their first encounter.
A kill shot is a decisive attack – one that takes precision and patience, and that’s exactly the Bennett’s plan when he realizes that Lennox is a woman who refuses to back down from him and does everything on her own terms, which is exactly the type of woman he needs in his and his daughter’s life. But in order for a kill shot to be carried out, the target has to be a bit oblivious to his/her surroundings, and with Lennox’s unwillingness to give all of herself to Bennett and the drama of past relationships thrust into the present, it’s unclear whether or not Bennett’s game plan will get him the conclusion he wants.
I've enjoyed every single book that I've read by Lani Lynn Vale, and I'm a sucker for a single father hero who wants to give his child the world. Bennett and Lennox's story illustrates the fact that past relationships should not define present ones and that letting walls down and willingly giving one’s heart to the right person makes all the difference.
Kill Shot is steamy, hilarious, and a bit dramatic, and that combination makes it a definite guilty pleasure read, which is the best kind of escape.
A complimentary copy was provided in exchange for an honest review.
SPOILERS! Side notes: I have to say the stalker think threw me off a little...for some reason it jut didnt fit in with the story for me
also...
I don't know whether its because of my personal experience of diabetes or because of the field that I work it but I didnt feel that the heroine's emphasis on her diabetes was realistic especially as she had it since age 2. So the whole "I was that ‘defective girl'" thing felt like...
Bennett was the same when he informed her "“Not sure why it was some big to-do. It’s a common disease."
The little girls age kept changing between 7 or 8, so when she was shooting a gun and had started shooting 4 years previous she was either 3 or 4. On a sarcastic note, the good news was that she didn't enjoy the shooting competitions so she just practiced for enjoyment. I do not care how much you try to justify that teaching children about guns and gun safety lessens their chance of going to a school and shooting someone how about we live in a sensible society where children don't have access to guns and adults have limited access. NEVER HAVE I WANTED TO RETURN A BOOK SO DESPERATELY! Writing a book with a minor practicing shooting should come with a warning, there is no reason to try to normalize gun behaviour in a society filled with mass shootings. Unfortunately I bought two books by this author both will be going in the garbage and never will I purchase her work again. I am willing to read almost anything without judgement but I draw the line at small children enjoying practising with guns! HANDS DOWN THE WORSE BOOK I HAVE EVER READ!
Benny Bear has stolen my heart and i do not want it back.. am so sorry Downey my bearded dragon, but Old Benny Boy here is my one true love!
I have SOOOOO much time and love for this story, Im telling you, for me, this is the best one in the series hands down. I DEVOURED it.
Nox, was cool - bad ass cool!
Lani's book are fictional, yet her sex scenes & interactions between the couple are so real, like everything seems so natural. That is one of the thing that I love about her book's.
Another amazing release..and you set up Michael's book perfectly, cannot wait for that release ;)
This is a great story. Bennett and Lennox bring out the best in each other and whenever they are in the same room together the air sizzles. This isn't a light hearted story. The hero and the heroine are not young fresh faced lovers. They're both experienced the light and the dark side of life. They've had to fight, their pasts and themselves for their chance at a happy ending. It's worth the read.
Loved loved loved, Lennox and Bennett's story. Lani Lynn Bale ALWAYS delivers. She pulls you in from start to finish and she doesn't disappoint with the story. From funny to action to love and to....TOTAL HOTNESS!!!! That girl can write some pretty steamy scenes. I can't wait for the next and final story to another amazing series. <3
Just another 'okay' book in this series. I'm writing this review the day after I finished listening to the audio book and I honestly can't remember much about it, so I had to read other reviews to refresh my memory. I guess that should be telling.
The most memorable thing is the crazy stalker/ex. It was so unbelievably unrealistic that someone could just get away with all the stuff that was happening. How do you have video evidence of a crime and yet nothing happens to the criminal? Yeah, wasn't buying that.
Lennox is a Physican's Assistant and is only 26, so good for her. I liked that part about her since it showed she was intelligent. But when it came to men, she was downright mean. She treated Bennett like he was dirt when she was working on him. As a professional, I expected more from her, especially didn't expect her to go against his wishes (which is a lawsuit waiting to happen). The one thing I did like about her was her relationship with Bennett's daughter. She jumped right in to the relationship with Bennett and acted a pseudo-mother & friend to the 8 year old girl.
Bennett was okay. I can't remember much about him other than he was a hot single father and I admired his relationship with his daughter.
As I'm nearing the end of this series, I'm still wondering why a small town like Kilgore even has a SWAT team. I mean is it really that necessary? Are there really that many crazies in that town who require a SWAT team?
“I’ll never let anything hurt you. I can’t see the future. I can’t tell you how tomorrow will look for us. All I can tell you is that I’ll never treat you with anything but respect. I’ll never let you down, and I’ll never be unfaithful. If we are happy, then I’ll be here. But if it does go bad, which I don’t see happening, then I’ll leave you with a piece of me. You’ll forever have me. My support. My caring. And I want the same promise from you. Because Reagan loves you already. She asks about you every day. And I want her to know you without you holding back. You’re mine, and I’m yours until we both decide differently. I’ll never leave you without talking it out with you first. We’ll both have to be on the same page. But honey,” I said, a promise in my voice. “I don’t see this going bad, because I fucking love you, too.” Him 😍🥰
