As magnificent and powerful as a Viking god, Zachary Steele had been Christen Laurence's friend throughout their medical training. Then a single night of overwhelming passion had changed their lives forever. They became lovers... even though Christen was promised to another. So she fled back to her tiny hometown, determined never to see Zachary again.

But he followed her, taunting her with irresistible kisses and promises of fulfilled desire. Had he come to seduce then toss aside the woman who had spurned him? Or were his intentions honorable? As Christen's resistance melted under his searing caress, she knew she couldn't stop herself from finding out if Zachary wanted her for just one more night... or forever.

Zachary and Christen were friends in medical school, until one night they made the choice to go to bed together. Bad choice - Christen packed her bags and left town in the morning, and Zachary's never forgiven her. He hasn't forgotten her either, so years later he finds his way to her hometown and takes a job as a GP at the small clinic, in the hopes that he can work his way into her heart - and get her out of his.

Over the last five years or so I've tried three separate times to read this, and after the first dozen pages or so I've admitted defeat. This time I soldiered on, and I'm glad I did, because after a slow beginning (actually, I found the first fifty-odd pages very hard going) it gets much more interesting. Zach and Christen were both appealing characters, with enough virtues to not turn me off and enough flaws and personal demons to seem realistic. And I liked Hunter, Christen's artist friend, a lot.

I did find the whole plot idea of Zach coming to seduce Christen years later to be a bit odd - it shows up in romance novels a lot, but do people actually do this?

I'm not sure what else to say about this one. Usually I have clearer thoughts on a book, but I read this in the middle of the night when I couldn't sleep. Overall, I did quite enjoy Winter Morning, though it didn't get to my heart the way some books do, and it was a bit too 80s-angsty to be on the 'keep' list. 3 stars.
