Paul Frederic Simon is a Grammy Award-winning American singer-songwriter and musician. Simon is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, both as half of the folk-singing duo Simon and Garfunkel and as a solo artist. In 2006, Time magazine called him one of the 100 "people who shape our world." As of 2007, he resides in New Canaan, Connecticut.

I was there and it was spectacular. The perfect summer day back in 1991. I sat out on the Great Lawn with my friends in anticipation of a performance by an all-time music legend. And what a performance it was. Paul Simon and his band of probably 25 members (if you include all the extra percussionists) performed a 2 and 1/2 hour set of his songs from the albums, The Rhythm Of The Saints and Graceland, with a smattering of Simon's solo hits and a handful of Simon and Garfunkel classics. My favorite memory from that show was how the crowd would roar at every lyrical reference to New York City from Simon's songs. "Counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike." The record-setting audience was so into that show. And the smooth delivery of the songs was as polished as any performance that Simon has ever given. On August 15th, 1991, Paul Simon proved that he could pack America's largest park by performing a second free concert -- this one without Art Garfunkel. Nothing against the other half of Simon and Garfunkel, but this show was equally spectacular. Paul Simon shined like a diamond on the soul of her shoes. He mixed in his hits of the 70s, 80s and early 90s along with his S&G classics to perfection. His enormous band of South American musicians gave the performance an added flare. But best of all was the audience reaction to each song that referenced New York City. Priceless!
