Wolverine and Rogue crack some Yakuza skulls in a Ginza District bar. Their goal: to pick up the trail that will lead them to the Silver Samurai and Viper!
Chris Claremont is a writer of American comic books, best known for his 16-year (1975-1991) stint on Uncanny X-Men, during which the series became one of the comic book industry's most successful properties.
Claremont has written many stories for other publishers including the Star Trek Debt of Honor graphic novel, his creator-owned Sovereign Seven for DC Comics and Aliens vs Predator for Dark Horse Comics. He also wrote a few issues of the series WildC.A.T.s (volume 1, issues #10-13) at Image Comics, which introduced his creator-owned character, Huntsman.
Outside of comics, Claremont co-wrote the Chronicles of the Shadow War trilogy, Shadow Moon (1995), Shadow Dawn (1996), and Shadow Star (1999), with George Lucas. This trilogy continues the story of Elora Danan from the movie Willow. In the 1980s, he also wrote a science fiction trilogy about female starship pilot Nicole Shea, consisting of First Flight (1987), Grounded! (1991), and Sundowner (1994). Claremont was also a contributor to the Wild Cards anthology series.
Rouge and Wolverine vs Silver Samurai and Viper - SMACK DOWN - then heartache. Really have missed Rouge over the last couple of years; seems as if she is kind of on vacation in the MU/MCU. But I think it is only a matter of time before the right artist/writer team revision her. Kind of a 'dark rouge' storyline where all the individuals whose powers she has absorbed over the years start to take over her! Or team her up with Mimic, Super-Adaptoid and the Awesome Android - a 'copycat' team!
The first team up between Wolverine and Rogue! Their relationship is definitely not like the movies. Although, for a newly turned hero, I thought Rogue did pretty well.
Storm gets a new, edgier look...which for some reason makes Kitty really upset. The issue ends with heartbreak. All because of a mysterious smoking figure (who’s not that mysterious).
A Wolverine/Rogue buddy mission, a wordless fight between Wolverine and Silver Samurai, the wedding of Logan, and the debut of Ororo's iconic mowak, this one is a banger.
Rogue and Wolverine team up to track Silver Samurai - their first team up in the comics but a regular happenstance in X-Men: The Animated Series, X-Men: Evolution and Wolverine and the X-Men. Storm and Yukio are also teamed up and Storm uses her powers to hurt their attackers. Rogue and Wolverine rush back to the hospital to save the unconscious X-Men and Mariko from Viper and Silver Samurai. Rogue sacrifices herself to save Mariko and Logan in turn lets her absorb his healing power. Mariko has an encounter with a stranger, which leads her to call off the wedding - starting the trend of doomed comic weddings. The X-Men's friends including Scott and Madelyne arrive for the wedding and the X-Men are stunned by Madelyne's resemblance to Jean. Storm sports a mohawk - a new look to go with her new outlook on life and Xavier is concerned.

The full debut of Rogue acting as an X-Man. She buddies up with Wolverine, giving her room to glow and show us who she is. It’s also interesting because she is a villain trying to reform, so Wolverine’s more vicious tendencies are actually something she appreciates and takes to. Only when she tries to manipulate Wolverine into kissing her, does Wolverine firmly establish a boundary and make it clear that safety of the team is paramount, forming a foundation for her the grow from. The ending of the issue is genuinely heart breaking (Damn Wyngarde, but he is a much better villain than Viper and the Silver Samurai). We also get punk Storm and the very negative reaction of Kitty, which I feel 8 almost meant to parallel the reaction of some audiences that have extreme reactions 5o change in character.
absolutely love the cover art. the japan saga is finally over, with a great conclusion. we see Rogue nearly die by the hands of Viper but Wolverine offers for her to touch him so she can absorb his healing factor. Meanwhile the gang meets Madelyne Pryor, with an unwarm welcome. Mariko leaves Logan at the alter because “he is not worthy” likely at the hands of the Silver Samurai or someone else

I was going to highlight 200 different things that happened in this issue, but as soon as it cut to Mariko telling Logan she wouldn’t marry him because he was unworthy, I was GAGGED. I’d shed that single tear too, that was VILE
An excellent issue. Rogue enters combat situations with the X-Men as a team member for the first time. Developing chemistry with Rogue and Wolverine makes this an important benchmark in X-Men history. Awesome fight scenes aptly illustrated by Paul Smith. Just an all around good issue. Recommended for action fans, Claremont fans, and Paul Smith fans.
