Now that Crystal has turned sixteen, she can transform into a Red Dragon, just like everyone else in the kingdom. Having moved to the capital with her mother to finish her studies among the elite of Red Dragon society, she is only interested in enjoying the last two years of school. But then she meets John, the strange and exceptional student who insists that somehow she is special. He is a constant reminder that she is different, with her blonde hair in a Kingdom of redheads. And he always seems to be there, just when she and her friends need him most. Despite her best efforts to stay away from this strange new boy and finish the school year, Crystal may just find that she needs his help more than she is willing to admit. From the East comes the growing threat of conflict with the Blue Dragons, who are bent on killing them all.
Holy shit, I spent the evening reading this novel and it's a damn series. First of all this book is so long, it'll bore the shit outta you. There are parts that DON'T need to be in here at all, a lot of BAD FILLER. Secondly, it never really felt like it had a good flow. The novel could of been amazing if it was written better but sadly it wasn't. The people who get through this novel are damn well determined because I used all my brain power to push through. Thirdly, the relationship between John and whatever her name is (the princess) is so annoying and childish. Someone kill her off already.
Becoming a Dragon is a very enjoyable read. It is set in a fantasy country, it is mainly about Red Dragons and the risk of attack from their rivals the Blue Dragons, so there is an element of suspense about what is going to happen next. I especially liked it when the main character, Crystal goes to High School and the interplay with the other students. Even though it is a long book it did hold my attention and I look forward to the next installment.
This was a super catchy book and was really hard for me to put down. I love all the books in this series so far and hope to see more. Great work Andy Holland!
