Gray is rash, impulsive and breaks the law. Kristie finds herself falling for him but will her attraction to Gray prove fatal?
***Due to sexually graphic content and language that some may find offensive, this book is intended for mature readers only***
When Kristie comes home from college, the last thing she expects is her world to be turned upside down by the appearance of a handsome, gruff stranger, Gray. He is the head of a biker gang in town called the Devil’s Advocates.
Kristie’s mom asks if she can befriend Gray in hopes of getting him on the straight and narrow. The plan backfires, however, as Kristie finds herself falling for Gray. Is it possible he feels the same way? The connection between them threatens to tear down everything Kristie has ever held dear.
The more she falls for Gray, the more messy things get. As Gray gets yanked further and further into the world of his gang, Kristie finds herself having to make a choice: stay on her own path or risk everything to be with Gray. Will she be able to make it out unscathed?
This book was a freebie and since I love biker romances I thought I'd give it a try. The story itself was good, but the short length didn't allow enough time to really develop the characters and so it all felt rushed. The chemistry between Kristie and Gray was sizzling but the fact that her mom and the devious cop John kept making her feel like she was fat and needed "fixing" made me angry. Gray saw her for the beauty of who she was and didn't try to change her. It ended on a cliffhanger after Gray leaves town and is accused of causing a death...so who knows how it will all play out. Not much to do with an actual MC but more a small town biker club who dabble in minor crime...and a complicated romance between Kristie and Gray.
*** 3 *** "playing with the devil's advocate" stars
The book was underwhelming. Gray and his men seemed more like a pack of troubled teens than a big bad biker gang and for someone who is supposed to be the leader of said biker gang Gray doesn't seem to garner a whole lot of loyalty or respect from those around him. He's not even feared.
Also for someone who claims he has no time to waste on women and relationships he caves almost instantly when it comes to Kristie.
No! No character development, weak leads- kristie is ridiculous she let’s people- her mother and a date -allude to her being fat and ordering salads for her- yuck and she never says anything! Insta love from Insta hate?!when it’s not done right I love it but here -they have sex and she’s in love wanting to reform the bad boy- no thanks!
Fast paced story of a good girl swept into a bad guy's world. However, characters are well developed (though not at first, at first just confusing!).
Add in some motorbikes and a few fast cars, plus unepxected death. Otherwise some hot scenes, a celebration of a BBW that doesn't realise how hot she is until he shows her. He almost loses her though due ot his own insecurities... had to fight for it to be a HEA.
The Storyline is sound but the story is incomplete. It is a definite cliffhanger. To read the entire story you'll need to be prepared to read the series.
I liked how it was written. I liked the characters in this story. It kept me turning the pages the only thing I did not like was that I it did not have a HEA.
Kristie is coming back for school break to stay with her mom and new stepdad. They want her to befriend Gray, her stepdad's nephew, because he is in with a "bad crowd". Gray is leader of a motorcycle gang. When Kristie meets him, she wonders what her parents thought she could do to help him. They get pushed together over and over again and the sparks fly. She knows it is no use but she can't help herself. They become involved and she ignores the fact that he is part of a gang. When a member of the gang is in a street race, he hits another driver and kills them. The police believe it was Gray because anonymous tips put him at the scene. The cop is out for blood so Gray decides to run. Armand, a rival member, has told Kristie that Gray was a bad guy who ordered an attack on a child of a rival gang. She's decided she wants to be far away from him. Armand sticks like glue though and in the next book, she is dating him. That part really got to me because she hated him. He was creepy and she knew he was the one responsible for killing the kid in the car race. Her getting together with him makes no logical sense at all!!

I really enjoyed this book by Carla Coxwell, so far another MC book and yeah, they call kind of remind me of SOA, but I totally loved this story of Gray and Kristie.
Kristie goes home for winter, because Mom wants her to see her new place and meet her new step father, she remarried, and the step father has a nephew he's been raising, and in the hopes that Kristie can change him. But we all know, that won't be the case.
Gray is helping fix his uncle's truck, when Kristie arrives, he doesn't look up to see her, but there first encounter is when they both want to take a shower, of course at different times, but they see each other naked. Well to a surprise, Gray likes what he sees, knows this is his uncle's wife daughter. Kristie shocked she caught him coming out of the shower naked, completely, she liked what she saw. But had to look away.
So this is where it all starts, but of course, Gray thinks that Kristie is looking or spying on him because of his uncle, (and she's not), they meet up at a bar that Kristie was to meet there with a friend. Then another motorcycle gang shows up , and a fight starts, but Gray has been arrested before, and luckily for Kristie, he's not. There seems an attraction but they both there cannot be.
Well, a lot does happen, that Gray has to take off, because of one of his boys, not sure what he plans on doing, who's a snitch, and Kristie is heart broken because that would make him look guilty, when he's not. What happens next, well you have to read the 2nd book. I cannot wait, but I totally loved this book!!
"I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review."
I was given this book for my honest review.A story about Kristine, who is in College, and during holiday, she went to visit her mom,and step-dad.She meets get step-brother,who heads up a gang called devils advocate. There is friction between them at first, then at the bar sparks fly between them. And there is a flame between them, even though they know it's wrong. They have a strong connection, till one night things turn topsy turvy. All there lives are in a uproar. This book kept me on the edge of my seat,as do all of carla Cowell's novels. And again this book as do all her books leave you with a cliffhanger. Can't wait for the next one.Only found a few errors.pg597 should be if(i) see pg645 should be showed up not shot up.
Devil's Advocate is not what would be expected from the title. At first, one would think this book is a paranormal read but once into the first couple of pages, you find that it's actually about bikers. Then you find it's not your typical biker story. Sure, there's the expected gang rivalries and even the good girl wanting to redeem the bad boy leader of one of the gangs. But finding that appearances can and ARE deceiving, and from the most unexpected of sources, makes this a very interesting read. As part of a serialized book, the author gives a taste of what one might expect from bikers, their leaders and the women who love them, and gang rivalries. But she also adds some twists and turns that by the end of the first part, leaves the reader "jonesing" for more. Can't wait for part 2!
Written in a juvenile style. Sometimes a bit cheesy. The reader will be able to tell right away that the author doesn't have much knowledge about MCs, calling it a gang, and the lack knowledge of hierarchy in said club.
I'm on book 3. This is my personal train wreck. I must see it though. It's a good story, I however am a jaded established MC gal. Even though gray is the same age as other mc leaders, this book is more how maybe a true mc started. I have not finished again it's a good story. I would love to see book 5, have not finished 3 where gray is the equal of the skulls-or many many mc groups or maybe a Dr.
I was really excited about this book because the BBW aspect and of course bikers, but it was a TOTAL let down. It only mentioned her curves twice maybe and not even in a great way. Just casually. Kristie was the main character and I just didn't like her. She was scared of things and just boring. I didn't get any attachment to her love interested either. It was just all a bit blah.
Bad really bad. and I am glad it was a free purchase. I love biker romance. But the characters in this story had no romance. The chick whined about everything. The "biker" and I use that term loosely was just a Wiennie that rode a bike and did some petty law breaking stuff and OMG they were cousins (ok only by marriage but still. why would family try to push for that).
I really enjoyed this book, there was action romance, good supporting characters and a good plot. This is a different kind of Mc book, they are involved in street racing. Looking forward to the next book.
Quick Read as it's part 1 in a series. Your good girl meets bad boy biker story, but with a twist.....he's her step dad's nephew....so cousins by marriage. Book 2 is free via club email newsletter.
I hate short books like this! But I may get the next few just to see what happens.. Good story line just not enough from the characters to really fall in love with them.
This gets a one star rating. I did finish it but more out of hope that it would get better. It unfortunately did not. Written in such a boring style with extremely flat, paper thin characters.
