Rik Ringers as the main character is known in Dutch gets a reboot not unlike 007 with Daniel Craig, his detective adventures gets transplanted to the 21st century with a bit more saucy content. The old character does indeed suffer from being a creature of the sixties/seventies, a bit boring and stuffy. hence the reboot of a more modern and less boring character.
This story about mistaken identities does make Rik more interesting and certainly a pleasure in re-aquainting with a character I've enjoyed in my youth. However for me this update is not necessary and does not add really to its excistence. I do enjoy some new adventures however so I hope this will continue.

Me parece un buen relanzamiento. Moderniza al personaje sin reinventar la rueda ni renegar de los años de Duchâteau y Tibet La aventura tiene su punto de drama y tensión, pero no cae en los excesos de la narrativa descomprimida actual y se ciñe a un sólo álbum.

Nunca tinha lido nenhum livro da colecção Ric Hochet... Até ter visto este, da autoria de Zidrou! Como sou um um fã da restante obra deste autor, não quis deixar passar a oportunidade de ler este livro, apesar de saber que se baseava numa personagem que, na minha pouco informada e pouco conhecedora opinião, seria algo datada... Acabei por me divertir com a leitura desta história inverosímil, talvez porque a BD permite precisamente histórias mais rocambolescas, talvez pelo estilo parodiante daquele universo "ricocheteano" mesmo ao jeito de Zidrou, talvez mesmo, se calhar, porque não consigo não gostar de nada que saia da pena de Zidrou... Enfim, gostei, recomendo e gostaria de ler os restantes volumes desta série dos "Novos Casos de Ric Hochet".

'The Mighty Return of Ric Hochet: R.I.P. Ric!' by Zidrou with art by Simon Van Liemt is based on a Franco Belgian comic first published in the 1950s. It's not a comic I was familiar with, but I had no trouble getting in to spirit of things.

Ric Hochet is a crack news reporter who is good at uncovering crime. Because of that, he's made enemies along the way. One has a plan to impersonate him and frame him for a murder. The criminal has gone to great lengths and time to learn all there is to know. Along the way, past adventures are referenced. The culmination is an ending that shows the lengths to which the revenged will go.

I liked this action comic throwback to another era. The original comic was featured in the Belgian Magazine Tintin, and there are a few clever references along the way. I've never read the original, so I don't know how close this one is, but it's a fun romp.

Ric Hochet - Volume 1 is a fun throwback to the comics of days (years) gone by. An homage to a Belgian comic with which I am unfamiliar it did remind me a bit of my youth and some of the comics I read then.

The story is about revenge, which is always a compelling motivator. The nods to past stories, both the original comic and Ric's own, might make this more appealing to one familiar with the older comic but did not disrupt the story for me.

The artwork would seem to be nothing to go on about because it was drawn in the old school style. But just thinking there is nothing to say is actually a bit of a positive, since it means it succeeded in mimicking that style. So the art did help make the work better, even if we might not immediately grasp it.

While I would recommend this I also acknowledge that some readers who either don't remember or don't care for the style might not enjoy it. That said, if you appreciate the past upon which the present has been built, this is a nice tribute to an era and style that is far less common but no less compelling.

Ik ben altijd een beetje huiverig als een boek overgenomen wordt door een nieuwe auteur, maar ik besloot toch maar eens ene poging te wagen ennn het is mij best bevallen. De auteur heeft er een wat meer volwassen versie van willen maken door oa de tieten van Nadine te tonen. Nu had dat niet perse gehoeven, maar blijkbaar was het een fantasie van de nieuwe schrijver. Ik had altijd wel genoeg aan Nadine in een jurkje, maar hey...altijd fijn om naar tieten te kijken.

La reprise d'une série déjà existante n'est jamais chose facile... Ici, les auteurs ont réussi à se l'approprier sans pour autant la copier ni la parodier... Les personnages y apparaissent moins coincé, plus dynamiques, plus naturels... Comeback réussi...

It was the first book of Ric Hochet that I read. It was really fun, it's a small book and I only needed two days! The first day I needde to stop to sleep, If it wasn't it I woul read it all!

OK, questa è la BD classica che faccio fatica a leggere. Lavoro sopraffino ma un reboot di una serie creata nel 1963 (e finita nel 2010 con settantotto volumi. SETTANTOTTO! Per i parametri francesi, praticamente un bonelliano) da Duchâteau e da Tibet (titolo originale: Ric Hochet, geniale) volutamente retrò è un po' troppo per i miei gusti. Eccezionale, eh, ma not my piece of cake. Comunque idea della madonna, ma visti i parametri narrativi resta tutto leggerino. Se vi piace il genere, imperdibile.

For those of us new to the character, Zidrou did such a good job introducing Ric's past and personality within the narration of the villain "The Chameleon" who must be sure that he's an ideal match. He did such good job that even the girlfriend was fooled- to the point that I'm excited to see how she deals with a relationship step she'll have to do over again (hopefully) in following tomes.

Not a dreadful book, for Zidrou as usual proves he can write, but one that just went whoosh over my head, being as it is a collection of in-jokes concerning the past oeuvre of a character who gets a reboot here, and me having never heard anything of him.

Hola! Wat krijgen we hier? Een fantastische reboot van de Ric Hochet (Rik Ringers) serie, in een veel realistischer setting (geen nood, niet noodzakelijk de tekenstijl, maar voornamelijk de karakters werden sterk verbeterd). Er zit meteen een grote tragiek in een het verhaal, en ik ben benieuwd of dat in volgende delen nog gaat gebruikt worden (specifiek de relatie Nadine-Ric; ik geef hier niets mee weg, geen nood). Uitstekende herstart!
