If this is the book of my memory, with the repetitive phrase "scat, scat, go away little cat," it was published long before 1977. This is the first book I fully remember from my childhood; I was "reading" it aloud to my parents (ie, reciting it from memory) by age 3, or 1960. A very dear little book.
I've probably read this book a hundred times - as a child, to my children, and to my grandchildren. I still love this book! There is something about the soft, pastels of the illustrations that captures the tenderness of this story of the little white cat that is consistently being told "Scat! Scat! Go away little cat!" It, of course, ends happily when he finds a forever home with the cute little girl, Rosy Runabout. It may be mostly nostalgia for me...but I've always enjoyed this little story!
This book brings back memories for me. What a sad story. I remember my parents reading this book to me when I was a child, and feeling extremely sad for the cat in the story. Nobody wanted the cat. The cat was looking for a home, and nobody wanted it. Everyone shooed the cat away... "Scat! Scat! Go away little cat." The story does get better, though. The cat eventually finds a little girl that will take care of it. And Amy, the little girl, says, "I am going to keep you for my very own cat." Oh, now the cat has a home. What a good ending to a story. I appreciate this book.
This is an antique children's picture book about a cat in search of a place where she belongs. Everywhere she goes she is pushed away until she finds the one place she fits. The beautifully painted old pictures and the repetition of each page made this a memorable and treasured book in my youth.
