This was a good blending of sports and romance. Also, it brought to the forefront cultural prejudices and how overcoming them can be difficult. Adriana's roots were pure Italian and Tomas' roots were Spanish/Puerto Rican. While the fathers were more reasonable, both mothers wanted to keep the bloodlines pure ... and Adriana's mother would go to extremes to do it, along with the help of Adriana's former mother-in-law, Rose and Tomas' ex, Madrid.
👁 OBERRVATIONS:
Loved the baseball references/sections. They were good.
This will sound contradictory, but the book moved too fast while being too slow. Adriana fell in love with Tomas when she'd only been widowed a year or less. Way too fast to move on, IMO. However, I found myself skipping a lot to get past the shenanigan's of Rose, Carman and Madrid to get more into the story.
Madrid, the ex, was way too stereotypical. I skipped over her rants. I do wish she had been exposed. She needed a real comeuppance. (Yes I read the end, but that was nothing compared to her schemes, violence and duplicity.)
Adriana was like two people in one. She ran a huge company but couldn't handle her mother or mother-in-law. I understand the mother-in-law's angst more since her son had died recently, but I blamed Adriana for not standing up to them.
The games played were childish.... keeping secret things that needed to be out in the open. Child's play... how old are Adriana and Tomas? Actually, Tomas was a lot more mature in the story. Adriana no so much.
