Shawna James is struggling through life. Her only family, her brother Keith, comes to visit her when he gets involved in a mission gone awry. Shawna gets thrust into danger like she's never experienced before. Even the fear she sustained most of her childhood with abusive parents doesn't compare to being abducted by terrorists, held hostage in a Mexican make-shift prison, or having to kill in order to survive. Everything her brother has taught her comes into play, except falling in love with the five members of his team, including their gunnery sergeant. These men are older, risked their lives to save hers and Keith's, and now she questions whether they want her out of loyalty to Keith, or if they in fact truly care. They need to prove it to her quickly, because the terrorists they helped her and Keith escape from want revenge, and they'll take it by abducting Shawna once and for all.

People seem to be more interested in my name than where I get my ideas for my stories from. So I might as well share the story behind my name with all my readers.

My momma was born and raised in New Orleans. At the age of twenty, she met and fell in love with an Irishman named Patrick Riley Dwyer. Needless to say, the family was a bit taken aback by this as they hoped she would marry a family friend. It was a modern day arranged marriage kind of thing and my momma downright refused.

Being that my momma’s families were descendents of the original English speaking southerners, they wanted the family blood line to stay pure. They were wealthy and my father’s family was poor.

Despite attempts by my grandpapa to make Patrick leave and destroy the love between them, my parents married. They recently celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary.

I am one of six children born to Patrick and Lynn Dwyer. I am a combination of both Irish and a true southern belle. With a name like Dixie Lynn Dwyer it’s no wonder why people are curious about my name.

Just as my parents had a love story of their own, I grew up intrigued by the lifestyles of others. My imagination as well as my need to stray from the straight and narrow made me into the woman I am today.

I don't really know why I continue to read these books. They're all pretty cheesy and predictable. But there are so few books that are about ménage relationships that aren't paranormal in nature or about D/s relationships that I take what I can get. I'm fascinated by the dynamic of five men with one woman so I read these books and try and ignore how bad they really are. I would like to say that I'm done with them and don't want to waste my time anymore but I know that I'll be back, which sucks cause not only are they horribly written, with no character development, and stories so poorly executed that they're borderline ludicrous they cost more than your average book. *sigh* I'll just continue to hope for a really great ménage story and pray that someday I won't be so disappointed.

If you aren't a fan of insta-love and an annoyingly, stubborn, moron of a heroine than this book is not for you.

When Shawna James brother shows up unexpectedly telling her to run if need be, she is ready. After a lifetime of taking care of herself, she knows how to protect herself and how to run if necessary. A life built only of trust with one person, her brother. When Shawna is abducted she knows he will come for her, but will he be too late?

Retired Marines and friends, Mercury, Stitch, Tex, Tiek, and Lee know something is off when they find out their best friend Keith has gone rogue. Only one of them knows a secret about Keith, he has a sister. When he reaches out asking for help, they are there to save Shawna. Shawna has a long road to recovery but the men feel an overwhelming need to protect her, they know she is their one. Shawna though feels their attentions are out of duty to her brother and even though they are trying their best to convince her she is wrong, she is having a hard time trusting them, but a glimmer of hope gives Shawna the courage to find out what if?

Another wonderful read from Dixie Lynn Dwyer. I thought this was a bit different than her other stories with Shawna and the abduction. A bit grittier and I found that each of the men were intriguing, my favorite was Tiek.

Really liked this story in the series. I loved that the author addressed the PTSD of the heroine after she was abducted and tortured. I thought that was realistic.
What I thought was unrealistic was here the heroine is a virgin and right away they are doing DP and then she wants to do it several times a night. Really? I would think she would be running for the hills screaming GET THOSE BIG DICKS AWAY FROM ME!
I did like how sweet the guys were to her though. My fav was Lee but I liked them all.

I really enjoyed this book!
This book fast became my joint favourite book of the series along with sin city showgirl. Why? Because I adored the heroes one hundred percent. As soon as Tex, Tiek, Lee, Mercury and Stitch saw Shawna’s picture they wanted her. Not once did they judge her or accuse her of being untrustworthy, a liar or a slut. It was in fact Shawna that was reluctant to give in to her feelings for the men. I understood Shawna’s reasons but I wanted her to trust them with her heart. I usually like one hero more then the rest but with this book I loved every single one. I liked the chemistry between the heroes and the heroine. I was hooked from page one and my heart hurt for Shawna several times.
The storyline for this book is easy to follow and an enjoyable read.

After a tough childhood, Shawna finally feels settled. Having a job at a bar, her own apartment and nearly finished college degree. When Shawna’s only family, her brother Keith, turns up at her apartment and tells her to leave town, she is shocked. Not taking his warning/plea seriously enough, Shawna ends up being kidnapped three weeks later. Lee, Mercury, Stitch, Tex and Tiek are shocked when they hear that their buddy may be a traitor/bad guy. Not wanting to believe it, they look into the details. When Lee reveals that their buddy Keith has a secret sister, the others are shocked. Determined to get the truth, they soon get a hold of Keith. When they are informed of Keith’s sister Shawna’s situation they are eager to help. As soon as the men see a picture of Shawna, they are in awe of her beauty. Having been held hostage and tortured for six days, Shawna fears that she will never escape. When Keith’s friends charge in and rescue her and Keith, she is instantly attracted but will she open her heart to the men? Will Shawna and Keith be ok?

Warning! Spoilers ahead!

Alright, so...

First off, the writing is very awkward, robotic and just not natural. Every line I read sounded unrealistic in my head. There were also many grammatical errors that were not only annoying but made the book difficult to read and understand. Words and statements are repeated to the point of redundancy and make me think that the author probably doesn't own a thesaurus. That being said the writing also switched awkwardly between (although always in terrible execution) overly formal and very informal.

Next, the story itself was poorly executed. Essentially this spy/navy seal get's into trouble and his cover is compromised while getting some incriminating information on a terrorist group. Thus he puts his younger sister and navy seal team in danger. He tells his sister she needs to go way for her own safety. When she voices her objections he says this...

"'Don’t you realize all those times I showed up over the years, and taught you all those self-defense moves, and signed you up for the martial arts training and shooting instructions on guns that it might have been to prepare you?"'

I repeat, poorly written. Anyway, moving on. Seeing as this chick has all this special training you'd think she would be some kind of badass, or at least not a scared sniveling broken little girl. But alas... Look I get it, she had a terrible childhood, but when I read a book I need my leading lady to be strong, even if she is a little broken. Otherwise, how is she going to carry this plot? The answer, she won't. As for the so called navy seals... just no. There is not excuse for those men to not be badass. None.

Overall, I had to force myself to keep reading this book until the end, and I was disappointed, though unsurprised, to find that there was no redemption.

OMG Such considerate terrorists... She was kidnapped and tortured for 6 days, she comes back, a few days later when they are going to have sex, she says that she is on the pill. Wow... You know you can't just stop using those pills for a week and then turn back and still be protected just a few days after right? So the terrorists gave her her pills. That makes sense. And it is also in line with their other actions; like them torturing her but only managing to bruise her somewhat, no scars, no burns, no broken bones at all and them waiting a week before raping her, well maybe this was because she could get used to them, again such consideration... In my country, believe me, terrorists are not that nice. I guess if you have to be kidnapped and turtured anyway Mexico is the country to be.
The plot was so cheesy... But I am not giving it one star or anything just an avarage of 3 stars, because I enjoyed the other parts. The heroes were not obnoxious like most of this author's heroes.
There were so much editing mistakes though... That was frustrating.

Great story

I really enjoyed reading this book. I loved the plot, and all the action involved. Shawna's character was a little more difficult to like. I understand about the traumatic childhood, as well as the trauma of the abduction, but her wishy washy, defeatist attitude was in complete contrast to independent woman she was suppose to be. I did think she fit well with the five men, once she opened up and was more true to her personality.

Same formula. Only this time. She is average height. Five feet six inches. Not the petite five feet three inches. Which is considered petite. I looked it up. She is stacked and she is a virgin. The five men. Are incredibly hot of course. And year older and experienced of course. And they have their inner wounds. Of course they are ex marines.

Gotta love those hot American soldiers

What's not to love about this book. Action, in the bed as well as else where. Great storyline. Gunny Sergeant Mercury is a great alpha male. All the characters fit together, I couldn't even come up with a favorite. I liked them all.

As long as there is punishment in it, I am on the fence for a 2 or 3. Notification of spanking should be mandatory.
