Stumbled upon this gem at the library and found it extremely well organized and helpful. My kids loved looking through it, too, to find that *perfect* dog based on our priorities!
The best book I have ever seen on how to prepare for selecting a new puppy, how to choose from various puppies, how to conduct the transaction--everything you need to consider to make the best possible choice for you and the puppy. I love this book, recommend it whole-heartedly to anyone who is about to obtain a puppy, and will keep the book in my personal library forever.
Recommend use in conjunction with How to Choose and Care for your Dog by Joan Palmer. It is old, only available second hand, but a good guide. Also recommend the AKC guide to dog breeds, available from AKC. These 3 are must reads before choosing a dog.
Even though we were not inexperienced dog owners, & knew exactly what we were getting into when we purchased Sebastian 5 years ago, I acquired this book from somewhere. I can't remember where, but I read it. It's a good, basic puppy manual :) Gives you good, solid information.
For technical vocab when we meet breeders and to research that the breed is right for our lifestyle and the husband's allergies. Very comprehensive, though, to sound like a 14 year old, I would have liked color pictures.
