In this second adventure, Steven and his friend reach out into our solar system. Halfway between our sun and the Great Barrier they come across a previously undiscovered Black Planet. While exploring this strange new world they come across a strange alien structure, and what they find inside will change human history forever. A desperate race ensues to save mankind from a dreadful foe. Steven finds himself having to drag the human race up by its bootstraps and into a new age.
I have tried to accept that this is meant as a fun story and it isn’t always going to make sense, but the author really does take liberties with the science and some of the situations he creates. However in some strange way it often works and I found the book quite interesting and easy to read.
This sequel to "Teardrops in the Night Sky" turned out to be even better than Murison's first novel. It was an enjoyable read with entertaining characters. It looks like the author left plenty of room for a third novel in this Steven Gordon series. I hope Murison continues to develop his talent and keeps improving his stories. He has a good start on character development and has created likable characters with individual personalities that set them apart from each other. Even the aliens and the star-ships are interesting individuals. I would like to see the author go deeper into each one's personality because I believe the personalities that Murison has created are interesting enough that the reader wants to get to know them even better.
If a new book is written in this series I will buy it. I will also keep my eye out for other Murison novels.
This picks right up where the first book left off. The plot is well thought out and flow very well. I was sorry to come to the end of the book, I hope, there will be more.
Just finished book 2 of the series and loved it thought it was better than the first one. I can't wait to get the next book in this series especially if they are as good as the first two.
Good read slightly different that many first contacts and space warfare. I like the Scottish story line. Gordon was a interesting sort. I liked Charlie s enhancements
This second installment was not as enjoyable as book one. As the storyline develops it slowly morphs into an odd collection of sci-fi, mysticism and unsound science. Lots of battles and slaughter, “magic technology” which seems to work in random bits - works here, does X; can’t work here because … reasons?
And the book ends with many story threads unresolved, just at the beginning of a new major contact and nothing for the reader except the next book? Yeah, I’m feeling mostly unloved and doubtful that I have any good reasons to continue with the next installment.
It starts off fast and doesn't really slacken off. Interesting developments lead to new encounters and new alliances and more importantly new enemies I can see where some people struggle with the story line and the science, but it's science fiction so just accept that in this universe, this is how it works Sticking with it. It's an easy read that is thoroughly entertaining
The second book was as much fun to read as the first. I like how he bought the characters along. There was a discrepancy in the storyline. Spoiler alert that he had Stephen lead the troops as they attacked the city ship. It seem so out of line to put the most important person in the world of humanity at risk.
Dear readers I have read two books now .interesting, is not the word I could not put them down.try them I'm off now to read no three can't wait.so enjoyable .off now.ian
Mistakes: I found four scattered throughout the book. Mostly misused or missing a letter. Plot: great big space battle that could have used more details to add depth to it importance. Characters: More characters added. Some good some evil. Still like the Mc.
I enjoyed reading this 9for mane the fifth rime around. This series is still one off my go-to series' when I'm super bored or just can't seem to find anything else to read in my kindle library.
I would have given it five stars except for the all the plot holes. The problem is a few decent beta readers should be able to catch most of these but there they are ready to confuse the crap out of you, lol.
Difficult not to like the complexity of the galaxy behind barrier. I suspect that this was a interesting thought process that has spun out into quite a good story.
This is the second book in the Steven Gordon series, and while I find the characters and the story engaging and well developed, the narrative suffers when it comes to the really large mistakes made by failing to understand some really basic science (something like sound doesn’t travel in a vacuum) or scientific terms, and it’s something that shouldn’t happen in a sci-fi book. Over all I enjoyed the book, I’ll probably buy the next one and I hope as the series progresses some of these issues will be addressed.
If possible this book was better than Tear Drops in the Sky,all the original cast were back and lots of new characters were developed, most of the characters back stories were interesting and the author finds great balance adding a bit of humour so the reader gets involved and you become invested in their future, the battle scenes though not as detailed as some military sci-fi were well handled and the book ended satisfactorily with no loose. ends, hopefully there will be further voyages for babe and the crew
Liked all but the very end. It lost traction at the end. And was unbelievable. Rest good though. Hope next book is more like the first. And doesn't loose it at it's conclusion.
