The second book in The Sound of Storms duology, this romantasy provides a high-stakes but heartwarming conclusion to a story about love in all its formats.
Aria and Luka are eager to settle into their new lives alongside friends and family, both fae and shifter alike. After saving Wren from the wrath of the Unifiers and the god fueling their rise, they must now prove their unity to the rest of the continent.
But their god, Mallium, has other plans. He needs their help. And Aria is the key.
The newly combined council of leaders must navigate the ongoing political unrest while figuring out how to save Mallium before it's too late. With only small clues to guide them, and a trail of secrets uncovered along the way, Aria must learn to trust herself and harness her powers to save their world.
Once and for all.
The Torment of Tides features heavy chronic illness and disability representation, a broad spectrum of queer representation, and characters with diverse bodies.
Anya Keeler is Midwestern through and through, born and raised in Kansas City where she lives in the suburbs with her husband and two rescue pups. Writing is her favorite creative hobby amongst a graveyard of other craft supplies collecting dust in her basement (thanks ADHD).
She aspires to bring authentic queer, neurodiverse, and disabled representation to genres where those things have long been tokenized or forgotten completely. As a proud member of those communities herself, she aims to prove that intersectional representation adds depth and nuance to all kinds of characters and stories.
When she’s not writing, you might find her perusing local bookstores or the library, sipping on cold brew, exploring new travel destinations, adding to her tattoo collection, admiring trinkets at an antique store, or comfort re-watching Avatar the Last Airbender.
“A god is not meant to be a deity, but a holder of truth and a protector of people.”
The Torment of Tides was such a perfect conclusion to this duology. The found family from The Sound of Storms is so prevalent in this second book. Getting to see Taren find happiness is my favorite part honestly. They’re my favorite character and I would read an entire book dedicated to them. Throughout this book, Aria is plagued with so much self-doubt that I had to take a second and assess how Anya got into my head, wrote down my inner monologue, and published it. I felt her fears and worries so viscerally, but do not worry, Aria is that mf bitch and gets her HEA.
Here’s my pros: • found family • so much representation (queer, POC, chronic illness, etc.) • romance is a subplot (while I will read pure smut with a straight face, this book has a fantasy plot with romance sprinkled in. Spicy chapters are outlined beforehand for readers that would prefer to skip those) • no third act breakup • no miscommunication trope • multiple POVs
The only con: • I need to know what happened between Taren and Finn and what they said when they asked Finn to be their partner. That’s it.
While I may have an extremely biased opinion when it comes to this duology, getting to read a book that is healing, funny, sexy, devastating, heartfelt, and full of love, is always worth it. Love is the theme of this duology but ESPECIALLY The Torment of Tides.
Thank you Anya for trusting me with your baby, I loved every second of it!
Also, Kam checking if they’re sure Ramerion was a male just to sign “well HE’S a bitch” had me laughing maniacally.

This series has been so near and dear to me, it’s ridiculous. I’m not sure if it’s Anya or the characters in the books, but they just feel like... home. My favorite storyline from this duology has got to be all of the found family formed throughout the events of both books. (okay and maybe I love Aria’s ending lol)But enough about the duology, let’s talk about Torment and how it felt like every single piece to the puzzle found its own way to be together.
“Each god, when the powers are transferred to them, receives enough energy from the drained life of the god before them to create a new world.” You could NOT tear me from these pages even if you tried. I loved the tension and progression of the plot, which wrapped up both books beautifully.
Getting to know other characters more and have their POV’s felt like I was right there in all the action and I loved it. So much representation throughout both stories, which is a PLUS PLUS PLUS for me. But please, at all costs, protect my baby Luka!
THANK YOU Anya for letting me experience this series with not only physical copies, but early access to the audiobook (book 1) and through the process of Beta and ARC reading book 2. I wish I could experience it all over for the first time!

Thank you so much to the author for providing me with an eARC. All thoughts are my own.
This was a great conclusion to this duology!
I loved seeing everyones relationships develop and deepen and the visual manifestation of those bonds made my heart feel so full.
The plot with saving Mallium, all the research and reading and decoding, the development of Aria’s seer abilities, all of it was absolutely fascinating.
My favourite part of this book was the relationship that developed between Evelyn and Cassir. I just loved them so, so much. I adored Cassir and kind of wish she was a POV character because she was just fantastic.
I first off want to thank the author for an arc copy in exchange for an honest review upong completion
I enjoyed diving back into this duology after my reread of book 1 in January. I'm glad that the crew was all back including some new characters. While I'm thrilled this book followed Evelyn and Cassir's "relationship" I'm still glad Aria and Luca were involved a great deal. My own bummer was the pacing, the book built up nicely but the last part felt slightly rushed but was still enjoyable overall. So great conclusion to the duology.
Definitely excited for future stories/works by this author.
