An unforgettable new look at the Civil War from eyewitness accounts by people who were there. Diaries, letters, journals, media reports and more. Beautifully and dramatically illustrated.
Another nice entry in the "Voices of the Civil War" series. This volume focuses on Stonewall Jackson's 1862 Shenandoah campaign, in which he baffled and bamboozled Federal forces. This was not a flawless campaign (witness Kernstown), but there were moments of brilliance.
The heart of the book, though, is the reflections of both civilians and military personnel as they reflect on the Shenandoah campaign.
Those snippets from many participants gives this an "up close and personal view" of this campaign.
