Meridian James and the Ouroboros Dagger
Magic doesn't exist.
All her life, fourteen-year-old Meridian James had heard these words from her dad, a brilliant scientist. And lately, he had become much more insistent before it caused either of them any more trouble.
For the record, she did try to do as he asked but her imagination was not responsible for the black rat with the tattered ear, or the strange dagger in the even stranger Mystic Emporium. And nothing in her wildest dreams came close to explaining Camp Greenwood.
No, her imagination was not to blame for her troubles—that fault lies with a deadly force seeping into the mystic world, as well as the Nocturnal Council who claimed they could stop it even though they have no idea what it is. Meridian is definitely in trouble, but if she can stay one step ahead of the darkness, her wild imagination might be the very thing needed to save the day.
And to think all she had wanted to do was turn her aunt into a frog.

This book is fascinating! The book has a strong plot with twists and turns that keep you turning the pages! I read this book last May and recommended it to my older students (I am an elementary library media specialist) and so many students loved it, that I am running a Meridian James book group in August! The main character, Meridian, is that cute, awkward kid who has no idea what she is capable of (like most kids!) and begins to find her way when she enters Camp Greenwood. I love the historical references to Boston, Ma, it makes me want to book a tour in Boston to look for the "arrows" and see the landmarks! No spoilers in this review, but definitely a "must-read" book for children!!

Great new series for kids - and myself! Meridian James is like Sherlock Holmes for the younger and more mystically inclined set. Here is a story where careful observation and a questioning mind help our heroine to navigate a complex new world that opens up for her when she sets off a mystical sensor hidden in the sidewalk in Boston. It is impossible not to root for Meridian as she learns more about who she is and what she is capable of. The author does a wonderful job of sliding in really interesting facts about myths and superstitions as Meridian and her friends attempt to understand the threat that is putting their world in peril. And so funny! We started reading it and couldn't put it down, except when we were so interested by an idea in the story we had to look it up! Can't wait for the next Meridian James!

I won this ina goodreads giveaway.
This was a fun first entry into what promises to be an interesting series. This book would be great for middle-grade readers, especially girls. The writing was fairly simple in structure; I could tell it was written by a newer author, but it was still well written and entertaining. The plotting was good, and just enough information was given about the mystical world. There are still many things to be revealed in future books, which I am looking forward to reading!

Great book. Fans of Harry Potter will love this book. It has the same sense of wonder but is not in anyway a copy of Harry Potter.
