The next day after reading this book I opened up this page to write a review and I could not remember a single thing. I read this book really quickly when I was really tired and immediately went to bed and slept for twelve hours. I took that as a sign that I needed to get my review for this book done as quickly as possible, because if I waited a few days too long I would have forgotten everything. I definitely didn't take anything in while I was reading it, but the book wasn't bad by any means. It's been in line with the rest of the books; fun, pretty silly, has cute characters, and is entertaining. Some of the Yo-kais we met in this book were great and the rest were all kind of there, but that was fine. Not every single Yo-kai is going to be the most amazing thing ever, but they also don't need to be that way to be fun to read about.

Here are my ten thoughts, comments, and opinions from this volume:

1. I've been waiting very patiently to meet Watermelonyan, and every time I picked up this book before getting to this point in the series I felt this excitement build up in me. Although the chapter was not nearly as grand as I was hoping, I found it entertaining in a strange way. Out of all the things that Watermelonyan's possession powers could do, it makes people want to smash watermelons?! I don't know if I should laugh out of humor or awkwardness, but it was hands down the most entertaining chapter of the book.

2. One thing that stood out in Watermelonyan's chapter was the comment made at the end about how Whisper and Jibanyan's heads turned back to normal at the end of the summer. There were a few things that I thought about when I read this, and one of those things was about the timeline. How much time has passed since the beginning of the series. It seems like it's happened over a few years, seeing how the seasons seem to jump around, but Nate still seems to be in the same class and he's still in elementary school. Does he exist in a timeless loop, or does everything theoretically take place over a short span of time but for storytelling purposes it isn't written that way? The other thing the comment made me question was the thing about the watermelon heads not going back to normal. What if Nate's head got turned into a watermelon? Would all the humans see it, or only the Yo-kai? Can humans even have their heads turned into watermelon? Why am I asking these strange questions? Why are you looking at me like that?

3. Where did that giant clown head come from in chapter 47? Did Whisper just conjure it out of thin air and then have it disappear after two panels? That was honestly kind of unsettling and I don't get the point of it. The chapter was alright, but that was a weird choice of a way to start it.

4. I will gladly hang out with Nate and play his board games and play with his toys. And I will also gladly hang out with Whisper and play baseball with a soccer ball in roller skates at a campsite by a river.

5. I found the fight between Drizzle and Ray O'Light to be not only weird but also seemingly pointless. Jabba the Hutt's pointier cousin got into an argument with the sun guy from Five Nights at Freddy's. The only reason anything even got going in the fight was because of Jibanyan's paws of fury. And then Nate suggested that they try and get along and suddenly they understood everything and new how to be good little Yo-kais. One thing I have noticed time and time again with these books is that the characters change really quickly and learn good morals super easily. Nate gives all the Yo-kais the most generic piece of advice and suddenly everyone's problems are solved.

6. Noko made another appearance in this book! And Jibanyan absolutely ABUSED him! He made tears stream down his face and he had to scream for help. And then he got all shriveled! Poor Noko. :(

7. I think Espy might be one of the worst Yo-kais to have around because none of your secrets would be safe, and if I was Nate I'd be dead already because you know he has a lot of complaints about Whisper in his brain. I don't know what Nate was thinking when it came to which Yo-kai to call. I guess in the heat of the moment he can't think properly, but I can think of at least five other Yo-kais off the top of my head that would have done a better job of shutting Espy up. They could have gotten Frostina, who could have just frozen her with one breath. Even if Espy read Nate's mind and knew what was going to happen, there wasn't anything she could do about it except run away.

8. I love that Jibanyan wore a face mask when he thought that he had a cold, but Jibanyan, sweetie, the mask needs to cover your nose as well as your mouth in order for the mask to help anyone. It's basic mask usage 101.

9. I liked how we sort of met Yo-kais who are "related" to other ones we have met, like Agon and Ake, from the last book. But then in this book we saw Dandoodle, who has a very similar design to Manjimutt, but they have nothing in common personality or ability-wise. It just seems like whoever had to design him was too lazy to create something original so they based a "handsome" Yo-kai on a super ugly one.

10. Why did Tongus look sort of like Noko? She was just Noko but turned more into a mushroom than Noko already was and then given legs. But I like her because she looks like Noko and I love Noko. Noko. Noko. Noko. Nokooooo.

It is almost four in the morning and I am very tired after finishing this review. I don't even have anything to say now. It was pretty similar to all the other books so far in every aspect. It's a cute story, the art is fun, the characters were wacky, and there was plenty of paws of fury sprinkled throughout. I'm excited to read the next book, although I probably will be taking a break after reading volume eight, seeing as that's the last volume I have checked out from the library so far and I want to take a break before reading more of them and writing these reviews. It only takes me half an hour or so to read one of the books, but it does take me upwards of two hours to write one of these because I have to go back into the book to look for things and names to reference in the review.

This is such a random manga. This volume was more of the same, with Nate meeting many varied Yo-Kai, and after a brief scuffle, befriending most of them.

The chapters are short and silly. They’re definitely more ridiculous than anything else. I chuckled more than once. But was also grossed out more than once. So there are some mixed feelings there.

I was really excited to find this at the library. I had been looking forward to reading it, since I had read the other 5 volumes. Hopefully, I will read YO-KAI WATCH, Vol. 7 soon as well.

Watermelnyan was a blast with his watermelon-smashin' craziness that even allowed other yokai to smash his head in, since he would grow another. The rivalry between Drizzle and Ray-o-Light was fun as well. Nate became friends with some fun new yokai.
