New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal Bestselling Author, Susan Stoker has a heart as big as the state of Tennessee where she lives, but this all American girl has also spent the last fourteen years living in Missouri, California, Colorado, Indiana, and Tennessee. She's married to a retired Army man who now gets to follow her around the country.
Protecting Melody is the 7th book in Susan Stoker's Seals of Protection series. This book is probably the most anticipated in the series because the main character, Tex, is in each of the previous books. I was worried that the book wouldn't live up to the hype but I shouldn't have been! Another great addition to the series. I enjoyed getting to know the real Tex. In the previous books he makes appearances and helps the team however he always was a little bit of a mystery and I'm glad we were given the opportunity to get to know the man behind the computer. I recommend that you read the series (you do not have to read them in order as they are each stand alones but I find it more enjoyable to read them in order). The series and this book specifically has everything...suspense, romance, alpha males...you can't go wrong!!
Arggghhh! I have no one to blame but myself. As much as I liked Tex, I thought this novel sucked the big one. It was the same rehash as the other ones; the same sex, the same I love you and marry me crap, and the same rehash of all the previous couples and how they met, and what each of their "woman" went thru. The only thing different this round were the names of the H/h. He's of course sex on-a-stick, and her just the plain jane like all the other females. And heaven forbid the starring couple not meet the other couples or not share the bed in one of their basements. I have no intention of reading the next novel in the series which is about each couple two years later. I couldn't care less about any of them now, two, five, or ten years later. I just want off this shitty merry-go-round. As for the stalker who's been following Mel? A total yawn-fest, as is the reason for the stalking. Tex being able to use his computer skills to help all the other couples, what a shocker he couldn't catch the stalker who destroyed his truck parked right outside Mel's apartment. Yes, sarcasm.
The most anticipated book in the SEAL of Protection series is Tex's book, Protecting Melody. The reason it is the most anticipated is because Tex has been through everything with everyone since book one. He is actually the hero in all the books because his behind the scenes magic is what saved lives. As a huge fan of the series, I couldn't wait for Tex to get his book. Of course Stoker had to put it towards the end.
Most are probably wondering, "Does it live up to the hype?". I'm here to say that it does. I'm not going to rewrite the synopsis aka blurb, and I'm not going to give spoilers. Sorry people, you are just going to have to suffer the suspense and read the book. I will say that there is an air of mystery that surrounds Tex. Who is this guy that is basically everyone's lifeline? Some of the mystery is ripped away and we get to know Tex a little more. This is shown through his POV of the time when he was helping Fiona through her panic attack at the mall. That was a big moment for them and it created a bond with them. Seeing his vulnerability and his fear that he couldn't help her, it added so much more dimension to his character.
Tex's love interest is Melody. If you thought Tex was a mystery, Melody is an even bigger one. She has a good reason too. I like Melody for Tex. She seems to understand Tex more than anyone. On some aspects she understands him more than his SEAL family. We know that he loves Wolfe and the gang but they don't know the emotional side of Tex that Melody gets to see.
The romance seems fast paced in this book but you have to remember that they have known each other for over 6 months. Sure they just met face to face but they have known each other longer. It's not an insta-love like in other books.
I was left in suspense towards the end. You are not quite sure who did it and when you find out you are doing a double take. Stoker sets the reader up very well for this one. The suspense also takes an emotional turn. It left me needing some Kleenex.
This book and this book series have not disappointed. I found myself eagerly awaiting each book. Sadly there is only one more book in this series. I wholeheartedly recommend that you read this series. It has everything, romance, suspense, and alpha males. ;)
I received a copy of the book, from the author, in exchange for a honest review.
I do believe this is my favorite book of the series! Tex is the "protector" of the group of SEALs, always in the back ground but keeping an eye on everyone. This time around he's found his own woman that needs his help. Mel is on the run. She has no where to go and no one to turn to when Tex shows up on the scene. Together they try to piece out who is after her and why. Pretty much kept me guessing close to the end of the book and when you figure it out it's going to throw you for a loop! And even though I'm a cat person too, you're gonna LOVE Baby! I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review, but I also pre-ordered it after I read it. It's a keeper!
Fair warning, I have a vastly different perspective of this book compared to every review I've read so far. It might shock you but this is MY review. First off, I have to say the storyline of Tex's story completely intrigued me at the beginning and I was more invested in it than any of the other book plots. I was disappointed though that it didn't really last very long. I was expecting her to be on the run for a lot longer before he found her. I was actually hoping he wouldn't find her until about halfway. Tex has been in the series since the beginning basically being there for the guys at their beck and call. I actually agreed with Mel when she said she thinks they take advantage of him. It's not entirely true, I know they genuinely care for him, but not once have any of them gone to visit him since the first book. Not once has it shown that they pick up the phone and call him just to see how he's doing or just to talk about anything in general. Not once has it shown that they do anything in return for him when all he does is give. They have him tracking their wives so they know they're safe as if he has no life and nothing better to do. It's not his responsibility, I get they're his friends and all but that's just doing too much. Putting his life on hold so he can monitor six other girls to make sure they're ok. That's not right, it's not normal. Which is why I was glad to see him getting his own happy ending. The teaser for the book implied that he was gonna put his skills to work for his own benefit this time and as good as he is at hacking I wanted to see him struggle with finding her. The chase of finding her seemed promising and exciting but was quickly resolved right away which was a let down. It was all so easy for him to get to her and I had assumed from the teaser that he was gonna have to do some work before he caught up with her. Guess not.
I liked Mel in the beginning. Her online persona was what you got in person. She was real and honest and gave it to you straight whether it hurt your feelings or not in a good way. Meeting her in person didn't change my opinion of her, she was vulnerable and scared at first but once Tex came into the picture she became herself again now that she wasn't alone. It was nice to see two sides of her and I embraced them both. She's a fighter that isn't scared to hide who she is through good and bad times. I liked her until the stalker was revealed and the weird reunion scene between Amy and Mel with Tex made sense. Who Amy and Mel really were changed everything for me and there was no going back from that. They were just another pair of reject Plastics, Heathers, and Flawless girls in high school. The problem, they still behave that way as grown women almost in their thirties and I was blind to it because she was our heroine and her loyal best friend. I don't condone what the stalker did and believe she desperately needed help but their stuck up bitchy behavior also contributed to the stalker's unstable mentality. The stalker as an adult screwed up because they had plenty of chances to get treatment, at the same time, they also had no one on their side to push them to get the help they needed and they snapped. The stalker as a teenager didn't do anything wrong and I feel heartbroken for them that they didn't get a chance to live life the way they should have. They were lonely and tried to make friends with Amy and Mel who they had assumed were nice girls and would welcome her. Instead, they turned up their noses, laughed, and treated that person like trash as mean girls do. This is how school shootings happen, the outsider that everyone picks on turns the tables on the bullies and brings other innocent people down with them.
I don't feel one bit sorry for what happened to Mel, it's karma, but what made it even worse is she got a decent guy in the end as her reward for being the way she is while Amy who's even more worse than Mel has a good life as well. I'm not saying this writer is sending a message that bullying is acceptable if you're the heroine but expecting us to feel sorry for these two after finding out what kind of girls they were then and still are now? No, they're not good people and if we were reading this story from the stalker's pov as a teenager we'd be rooting for them to get their happy ending. I hate that the writer tricked me into thinking Mel was a good person but at the same time it also taught me to be more observant from now on and to look for little things that seem odd and out of character. I guess in a way it's also a reflection of us as people in the real world. Appearances can be deceiving, people can control what they want others to see, you may think you know someone so well then one thing can completely change your perspective of them and you can't take it back. I honestly wish I could forget this book but in a way, the lesson it taught me was worth it.
*side note* The hashtag thing was annoying and juvenile. Grown women still reliving their glory days of being high school b*tches is pathetic. Done.
I truly fall more in love with Susan's work with each book I read of hers. I became addicted to her books after discovering Protecting Caroline and that addiction grows with each release. And this is Tex's book. Tex! If you follow this series, you understand the significance of Tex. Throughout all the previous books we've learned about Tex. We know he was injured and lost part of his leg. We know he is a wizard with computers and continually helps out numerous military branches even though he was medically discharged. We also know he has helped each team member keep their women safe and in the case of Protecting Jessyka, he helped save Benny. Quite honestly, Tex is the man. Their guardian angel. The guys couldn't completely focus on their missions without knowing Tex is watching over their women while they're gone. The women couldn't function while the guys are on a mission without knowing Tex has eyes on them too. Tex brings all of them some peace of mind and that has formed such a strong bond between all of them. Tec is special.
Now, it's Tex's turn to find his HEA. He's been chatting with Melody for a few months and they've formed a friendship, of sorts. Until one day, Melody seemingly disappears. If Tex can't find her through the computer, then something is seriously wrong. Tex, being Tex, realizes this and starts taking the necessary steps to find her. With the little bit of information Melody gave him, he's able to find Melody's best friend and gets the scoop from her. Melody is in trouble and has been for months. She's being stalked and left home to keep her loved ones safe.
Tex to the rescue, again. But this time is different because it involves someone he ends up falling in love with. I loved getting this more in depth look at Tex. The loss of his leg made him feel less than and Melody quickly squashed that misconception. She made him see himself as he truly is, how she sees him. As a man, as a lover, as a hero, as her protector, as someone who is always there for his friends, and does things no one else can do to ensure their safety, and lastly, as the man she loves. Their journey is a beautiful one in which they each realize their strengths and find that once in a lifetime love. Tex's story was worth the wait. I think it was very fitting his story was last. He watched his friends fall in love, helped save them, and continues to protect them. Now, he's found his one and he needs their help. I readily admit this is another book by Susan that had me ugly crying. To me, that is true talent. Anyone can "write" a sad scene, but when you can actually "feel" the scene, the character's heartbreak, that's a gift and Susan has it. Read her and join the addiction. You'll be so thankful you did.
Protecting Melody is the story that has been building all the way throughout the series as this is Tex's book and I am beyond pleased with this story and it was just about everything I could have hoped for. There is such charm in the way Susan Stoker writes her stories but what I am most impressed with is in how the heroine is written. She writes them beyond lovely and resonating and I admired this heroine in her inner strength. We have our hero, who is the hidden hero of the series and it was a delight to see him get his happy ending as he deserved. I loved the way in which he was able to be a rescuer. It was quite interesting to see who the stalker ended up being, it was the last I ever expected. Susan Stoker has truly delivered a solid win on this one here. And I can't wait to see what else she delivers.
I think this just may be my favorite of the 'SEAL of Protection' series so far. This story is a little different than the others.
Tex is a thirty-five year old retired Navy SEAL. When an IED took part of his leg, and his career, he still wanted to serve his country. He’s always been the man that can find anyone, that uses his computer skills, legal and illegal, to keep people safe and to put the bad guys behind bars. He has helped all six of his SEAL buddies find their wives at one time or another but sitting behind a computer is a lonely place to be. One day he saw an interesting user handle in a chat room and wrote to her. They began a texting relationship but the woman was very leary. As they got to know each other Tex confided in her about his leg and how it has affected him, his self-worth and his self esteem. He sees himself as less than and has a healthy dose of self-pity.
Melody had met a very interesting man online but she is very leary. Someone is threatening her. When they find her location once again she has to delete her online chat account and hit the road. When Tex doesn't hear from her in a week and a half he knows something is very wrong. He works his magic and has an approximate location. He drives from the east coast to California to try and find her, help her, bring her safely home.
I definitely recommend this book. Personally, I found it a bit less angsty than the previous books and enjoyed it a great deal.
*Safety Info* No cheating Heroine: Some sexual experience but not recently Hero: Navy Seal - definitely been around the sexual playground while a SEAL but not recently because of his leg.
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Side note: If you're curious about the format of this review, all will be revealed when you read the book.
Protecting Melody has been my #mostanticipatedbook since Protecting Fiona. In all of the previous Protecting books, Tex has made an appearance. And every time I would see his name, I would get #superanxious to know his story. Well, now #mydreamshavecometrue.
Tex is a retired Navy SEAL who lost part of his leg on a mission when a bomb went off. He still helps out the team a lot with his #computerninjaskills. If someone is missing, #Texwillfindthem. Truthfully, the team would be lost without Tex. #Texisthebomb #Tex4ever
Even though he is the #perfectmalespecimen, Tex has some hang ups about his prosthetic. His past encounters with women have left him insecure and embarrassed about his scarred amputation site. Let's just say their reactions weren't nice. It #brokemyheart to see him struggle with it.
Thank goodness Melody doesn't feel the same way. #sexonastick #neverlookatboxersthesamewayagain #sixpackunderthatshirt
Jesus, Tex, I know you're nervous as hell and you really, really don't want to share this with me, but you are sex on a fucking stick. Seriously.
And when the 2 of them finally #getdowntobidness....
The #sweetest part of the story was #Baby.
Sorry. I couldn't help myself.
Baby is Melody's #sweet, #loyal, #protective, and #incrediblysmart coonhound. I loved her interaction with Tex.
I was a little worried that Tex's story wouldn't live up to #myexpectations but I #shouldhaveknownbetter than to doubt the #ninjawritingskills of Susan Stoker. You don't have to read this book in series order, but really #whywouldntyouwantto?
I have but one complaint.... I need to know who Tex's #favoritedisneycharacter is! Why must you torture us like this, Susan?
I'm sure it's beneficial to read the other books in this series but I was able to read and thoroughly enjoy the story between Tex and Melody without doing so. I thought the author, Ms. Stoker, did a good job with the story-line and kept their story flowing nicely from the beginning to end.
While Melody is on the run, she begins an online relationship with Tex. I liked reading their online communications. It gives us a foundation of their friendship. When the two did get together, their romantic relationship didn't seem forced or too insta love.
Melody is strong and has been on the run awhile. I understood why she didn't immediately run to Tex for help. I did think it odd though she spoke of her parents we never heard from them in the book.
Tex is our wounded hero. He has some issues due to the loss of his leg and career but he is always the first one that his friends go to for help. He's a rock between his friends and family.
My one issue that I had is that while he's able to deduce where Melody is from their online conversations, he was a bit slow trying to find her stalker. While I think it could have been solved sooner, it didn't deter my like for the book.
I loved loved loved this story. Protecting Melody, is the the most anticipated story of the protecting series and Susan Stoker doesn't disappoint. Tex had been there for his former team and their loved ones, that it's nice to finally get his story. Tex meets Melody on a chat site, and after talking with her for a few months she just vanishes and doesn't respond. Tex knows something is wrong so he sets out to find her and protect her from whatever is going on with her. When he finds out she is being stalked, he makes it his mission to keep her, her dog, family, and friends safe and will do all that is necessary to end the threat. What starts out as friendship grows into love. Tex knows how to make Melody feel sexy, and Melody helps him feel complete.... Baby, you're my HERO!!! This book is fast paced and grabs you from the beginning and keeps you until the end. Tex deserves to be happy, and Melody is just the woman to make that happen. #Happily ever after... I received an ARC of this book for my honest review... And I'm glad to say it was worth it.
Loved it! I was very lucky to get my paws on an ARC and anyone who knows me, knows that for me to read a book in 3 days it's something special. Yes, I wanted review before its release tomorrow but also I got so involved with Melody and Tex's story. Though I own all the ebooks in this series (even the one in Kindle worlds, a feat in itself as I'm based in the UK.) I have not actually had time to read them yet, stupid life interfering! I digress, it is easy to tell Susan has put her heart and soul into this book, the characters are so original and engaging, something which is increasingly difficult to do in this genre. Baby is by far my favourite, I could visualise her every expression, her every turn. There are many places where I laughed in this book and two when I sobbed my little heart out, thanks Susan I'll be invoicing for tissues
I was so excited when I received an advanced copy of Protecting Melody. I have been in love with Tex through the entire series and I was so happy for him to find his happily ever after. I have to say I loved this book. Not a surprise because I have loved all the books in this series.
The book kept me on the edge of my seat and my emotions up and down. Melody is the perfect match for Tex and I love the way she doesn't give his (I hate to call it this but I can't think of another word for it) disability a second thought. It was definitely one of my favorite reads.
I would highly recommend anyone reading this book.
The only bad thing is I'm even more in love with Tex and know there is not many more books we will get to see him. Another great book Susan.
Ah, Susan, I knew Protecting Melody would be a great book! You surpassed greatness with Tex and Melody's story! This book shoes how our military hero's who've been injured in the line of duty are still and always will be "whole", and should be treated as such!! The suspense in PM kept me on the edge of my seat and my Kindle glued to my hands! 5 starts are just not enough! Melody and Tex's chemistry and devotion are one we should all strive and hope for. Bravo Susan!
I have a hit or miss with this author. Sometimes I love ever word I read and sometimes I just barely push through. That’s how I felt with this one even though I really wanted to know Tex’s story.
I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange of a fair and honest review. This book is the one that most of us have been waiting for, Tex is the behind the screen/phone go to man for all of the SEAL team in their hour of need, but will the SEALS be there for him when he makes the call ? Melody is perfect for Tex, she has her secrets and fears yet she brings out feeling that our boy Tex can not run from. In Melodys hour of need Tex is there not just for her but for her friends and family too. There is so much that I want to say about this book but the worry of giving away too much is stopping me :) I will say that Tex is everything I imagined him to be and then some. We hear his background and we learn of his fears. This is a man who loves with all his heart and in Melody he has found his soul mate , the one woman who will defend him to those who dare look at him as if he wasn't whole.
Susan has written a wonderful series for us to read and it makes me sad to think that we only have one more book to go. Bravo Susan you have excelled yourself this is my favourite book in the series, it made me laugh and it for sure made me shed a tear. Thank you
Larger than life Tex’s book. The build up towards Tex getting his own story was good.
Tex’s real name is John Keegan and he’s 35. CC_Copycat’s real name is Melody Grace and she’s 27.
She’s on the run from a stalker who threatens her family, friend and dog. He takes her friend, picks up her dog and drives cross country from Virginia to Anaheim via San Diego to rescue her.
She calls him annoying. He calls himself charming and charismatic.
Melody and her best friend Amy have conversations in hashtags. Melody’s dog “Baby” is given as much coverage in the book as any secondary character of importance would have been given. There are some very cute scenes with “Baby”. What happens to “Baby” was very heartbreaking and need not have happened. The saving grace is that “Baby” survives.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I was very lucky to receive an ARC of this book, but always buy the book,we have to support our favourite authors I feel!!All I can say is I loved it,Tex is everything we have come to expect from our beloved Seals, and Melody the perfect woman for him.Im not one for spoilers so all I can say is buy this book!!you will be so happy you did.I know Tex is the last in the series but with a future Seals book and 2 new series to look forward too our reading days look exciting.
I love the author's writing style. It's like an old friend is sitting across from you, telling the story. That's the first thing that sucked me in. Combine non-stop action, romantic suspense, and fun characters you can root for, and Stoker hooked from page one!
Aww, I love Baby, and his relationship with Tex even without Melody around. That aspect really worked for me, as I'm an animal lover anyway. Protecting Melody is a 5-star read all day long. Loved the ending too!
I was gifted a arc in exchange for a honest review... since book one I wanted more on the mysterious tex, and as each book came out my curiosity got stronger. Now finally the wait is over! I was a bit worried because I wanted his book so bad, and didn't want to be let down. Thank god it was what I expected and so much more
Short & sweet review. I've been wanting to read Tex's story, and this one was everything I wanted in a military romantic suspense. I loved it! He was the hero I knew he would be. Melody was the heroine he needed. And the dog saved the day. Even though I figured out the stalker early on, I was not disappointed in the climactic scene at all.
This was ok. It wasn’t bad and not necessarily worse than the others in the series, but I think my expectations were a little higher considering all of the build up for the MMC throughout the previous books. 2.75⭐️ 🌶🌶🌶.5
I've really loved this series. I've read a lot of Ms Stoker's books, not necessarily in order so I've gone back to reread and fill in the gaps. I was looking forward to Tex's story and the author didn't disappoint. Tex and Mel 'met' online, after 6 months he knew something was wrong and he was determined to track her down. A stalker and so much danger waiting to happen made for a very entertaining story. The anticipation built up through the story and in the meantime these two fell in love. The ending though, I've just lost my dog and I was in tears thinking evil thoughts of this author "don't you do it!" I'm not going to tell you what happened. Great story, now what's next in this author's world for me to read.
