The novella The Priest's Well is the twelfth book from the series The Greek Village Collection by INTERNATIONAL BEST SELLING AUTHOR Sara Alexi.

The Priest’s Well is a novella which will whisk you to a charming village in rural Greece, where an ambitious young priest returns after his career is thrown into disrepute in America.

It was Savvas’ mother’s dying wish that he joined the priesthood, but following a scandal in the US he is appointed as the priest in a seemingly quiet, remote Greek village.

Reluctantly, Savvas makes the move knowing his mother would have wanted it that way, but having grown accustomed to the grand ways of city life he is more than disgruntled at finding himself in the middle of nowhere.

But it doesn’t take long until mysterious stories from the past start to resurface. Savvas soon finds himself embroiled in village politics as he discovers village secrets do not mix well with his own self-interests. His plans to secure his own status and comfort start to unravel as Savvas finds himself caught between the spiteful Maria and her bewitching, alluring daughter Nefeli.

Is he trying in vain, or can Savvas undo the work of his predecessors? What price is he willing to pay when it comes to serving his own needs? And is Nefeli she all that she seems?

Woven with dark undertones and unexpected twists, find out if Savvas is about to fall from grace, yet again.

Best selling author Sara Alexi was born in Oxford, England. After travelling widely she now splits her time between England and a tiny rural village in the Peloponnese, in Greece, where she has renovated a stone farmhouse, whilst observing the Greek way of life and absorbing the culture.

As a qualified psychotherapist, Sara ran her own practice for years. Her artistic nature was, during that time, confined to painting and she exhibited widely. Her move to Greece was the catalyst that began her writing.

Her 'Greek Village Series' has been very well received and provides a keenly observed, compassionate insight into the Greek people and culture, and the human condition in general.

Another riveting read from Sara Alexi. As usual there is always something that makes you question things and this is no exception. Full of insight and Greek flavour.

Very enjoyable, can't wait for the next!

I love this series of books! I really like how each one concentrates on just a few of the village characters and it really doesn't seem to matter which order you read the books in or if you miss any out-you can just jump right in and there's no problem keeping up with things at all. I love Sara Alexi's books, you just don't know what's going to happen next, this one is no different and kept me guessing and questioning all sorts of things as I read through. Again, I was gripped. Just one thing: were they not investigated? But that is just me-I suppose I've read too many forensic pathology books and watched programs on it! Disregarding that small niggle, this is another great little read. A shorter read from Sara Alexi but it's not that short-it's still fairly substantial and very enjoyable. Can't wait for the next!

After reading two books recently which though very good, had me in floods of tears, I wanted to read something which was lighter.

The Priests well is the first book that I’ve read in this series and I won’t be reading anymore.

It lacked depth, both in terms of language and plot, and reminded me of a Mills & Boon novel. I was waiting for something to happen and it never really did.

This might be some people’s idea of a good novel but is certainly isn’t mine. Such a disappointment.

Again, Alexi gives us a book which explores the mind and motivation of one of her characters. We learn of Savva, a new priest, and his housekeeper Nefeli. And we wonder where the truth lies. We wonder how a priest could be so selfish and self-centered. We see Nefeli weave her spell once again. In the end, we wonder if we will encounter these individuals again. Only Alexi knows.

A different format to the other books in the series, unusual but engaging. I enjoyed it.

This is a little different from the rest of the series. Not quite so sweet and sentimental a little caustic twist and a fine line in humour

A fall from Grace and the mystery that causes it

Marie's Read (Marie Shirley Griffin)

A young Greek Orthodox priest is transferred from America to Greece under a cloud of "fiddling with the books".

Upon his arrival to his new post "at the back end of nowhere", he finds that the former priest has transferred the title to Church's very grand house to a young woman and her crippled aging mother.

The young priest, who has very expensive tastes finds that he must live in the very small cottage attached to the large house.

His goal, backed by the current Bishop, is to regain ownership of the house. What price is the young priest willing to pay?

This is a very clever story and quite a good little mystery.

I liked this. Alexi's prose, combined with her uncanny insight into human nature, drew me into this story and whilst I could see what was coming, nonetheless the book is worth reading - for all fans of her "Greek Village" series and for the author's ability to strike at the heart of people and write so honestly.

So, are we to think that the novellas are all going to have a dark twist? Another great story from Sara. If I'm honest, I prefer longer books, but these novellas certainly don't lack in content. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and hope that young Savvas manages to get his life back on track in a follow up story.

Not Sara's usual story but I loved it. Well written and still a part of the Greek Village just not like the others. However it shows a different part of life there and shows a lot about human behavior and feelings. It is the first time ever I like an ending I was not expecting. That means good author in my opinion. Looking forward to her next book.

Sara Alexi's Greek Village books are a window into a beautiful part of the world. Her characters are very real and you will feel you know them as your friends as they intertwine into each other's lives throughout the series. The books are a holiday to a place and people that not every one can travel to on an airplane...but anyone can travel there through the pages of her books. Enjoy the trip!

Whose story!? Nefeli, old Papas Sotos, new Papas Savvas, or Maria?!

I didn't like it, and then I did. The last sentence made me laugh !

Between this story, and The Unquiet Mind, one thing's for sure, Ms Alexi isn't a fan of the Greek Orthodox Church!

As usual, Sara Alexi drew me in with her descriptions of the village... and just when I relaxed and felt at home, she hit me with twists that I did not see coming! She never ceases to amaze me!

Sara weaves a tale of triumph and tragedy, full of twists and turns. The Greek village will never be the same. My only complaint was that it was only a novella. Can't wait for the next novel!

Another fulfilling read in the Greek Village series. Savass promises to fullfil his mother's wish for him to join the priesthood. Where this leads him keeps us guessing and hoping for the best.
