Bouncer #3

Slangernes retfærd

Rate this book

EN The first part of a story told in two volumes.

Jodorowsky and Boucq treat us to another excellent Bouncer adventure, where everything seemed to finally be heading towards a happy ending… but life always knows just how to pull the rug out from under us.

A top-notch western.

Bouncer Vol. 3 The Injustice of Serpents is written by Alexandro Jodorowsky and art by Francois Boucq.

The Bounce has unwillingly become the town's hangman. Meanwhile, an outlaw gang tries to bully landowners out if their property.

The art in the book continues to blow me away. It is absolutely gorgeous. This volume brought some hard hitting emotion that looks to be setting up some future encounters.

Ihan jees.

The third volume and the first in a new story arc.

The one-armed hero Bouncer here gets roped in (...) as the hangman of the little western town where he lives, and through such a cliche-ridden story that I have seldom seen anything like it, ends up having to hang his pregnant former wife to be and her long lost, gold digging love. I've written before about Jodorowsky's penchant for cliches and in this volume he really goes all out on that tangent. And as per usual, the women are there as love object, and for the seemingly compulsory rape scene...

What saves this from being a complete disatser is again Boucq's gorgeous art. His realistic yet still often sketchy lines lifts this high above most other album series. And the colouring by Nicolas Fructus is up to the task of adding even more feeling and emotions to the already great art.

Now that I've reached volume three, I must admit that reading these books is turning into a guilty pleasure. The content is so unashamedly macho and misogynic that it makes me cringe, but the art and the visual storytelling is excellent...
