Eve Abernathy and Lucien Thorpe may have--finally--walked down the aisle, but Eve isn't convinced that they're on the path to "happily ever after." Not when she aches to give Lucien a child, which seems to be a dream destined to remain out of her reach...
Yet she can't ignore her maternal longings when the plantation home she and Lucien have been asked to investigate is haunted by the ghost of a young boy who mournfully asks if Eve is his mother. And especially not when a former paramour of Lucien's arrives to present him with the son he never knew he had. As the spirits in the house grow more restless, Eve and Lucien face the unexpected task of raising a boy who exhibits his father's otherwordly talent for speaking to the dead. But before Eve can learn to love her darling husband's son, she must resist the spectral plea of another motherless child...
Abandono.
Ghost romance—hero and heroine are married, she wants a baby, he talks to unhappy ghosts and wouldn’t inflict his “gift” on a child. They go to Louisiana to exorcise a house filled with a number really unhappy ghosts, and invite a female friend of the heroine’s as well as a fellow psychic the friend is in love with. He can’t be with her because he can’t stand reading her mind all the time. One of the ghosts—a child—tries to draw the heroine into dying. Another ghost tries to kill the men, then to get one of the women to kill them. Lots of scary stuff, lots of good romance, lots of unexpected twists and turns. A very good read for those who like this sort of thing.
I found this story to be a surprisingly good read. I love the fragments of historical fiction, particularly the post civil war south and the elements of mystery and suspense. This book is about a woman (Eve) and her spirit-seeing husband (Lucien) who travel to a haunted house in effort to get the spirits to move on as this is Lucien's vocation. They face challenges in their marriage, unexpected tragedy and a surprise complication that changes their future forever. The ending is predictable but still an entertaining story throughout.
I recommend this book to adults only due to sexual content.
