Ready for a little holiday mayhem? Then dive into Ghosts of Witches Past. It’s the winter solstice in snowy Everland and the witching world is all aglow in twinkling illuma lights, enchanted fir trees, and sparkling snow. Holiday cheer is in the air for everyone—everyone, that is, except Elspeth Mayhem. Elspeth feels bewildered after losing so much time away from her daughters—Clover, Vivi, and Honora. The holidays remind her that, upon her return to Everland, she’d found three grown witches with lives of their own instead of the girls she’d left behind. Hoping to learn more about them, Elspeth turns to her old friend Esmeralda Card and her magical crystal ball to help her see into the past, her daughters’ pasts. With Esmeralda as her guide, Elspeth visits Vivi’s early days in The Potion Garden when a strange wizard tried to steal her potions, tags along on Honora’s first case as a wannabe P.I. in the seedy magical streets of Stargazer City, and witnesses Clover’s first success as a word witch as she sells her first Spellbinders novel while writing a dark fairy tale that might be a little too realistic. After witnessing their wild adventures, Elspeth reunites with her daughters and gives them a special Mayhem surprise to remind them of where they came from—a family of unique witches. Ghosts of Witches Past is a special glimpse at the Mayhem Sisters when they were first exploring their persuasions and getting tangled in magical mayhem.
A great read I love these books. They're fun, entertaining and quite addictive. I found parts that were funny, yet also series. These books are just all around good read.
"Ghosts of Witches Past" is the forth book in "A Sister Witches Mystery" series. Elspeth Mayhem is a free spirit. She does not like to be tied down, and as soon as her youngest daughter was able to survive on her own, she headed off to go beyond the wall for ten years. Since she had little to no contact with her daughters for so long, Elspeth realizes that she has no idea what to give them as a winter solstice gift. During the ten years she was away, she missed out on the years that set the tone for each witch's life. As a means to get to know her daughters better, she seeks the help of an old friend to allow her to witness some of these events in a series of visions. Overall, it was interesting to see how each witch started out. But at the same time I thought it was kind of sad since they live for hundreds of years and their mother chose to be away during their late teens and twenties. Other than that, it was another well written book. Hope you enjoy it too.
Because of Elspeth's job. She wasn't in her daughter's lives very much. With the winter solace coming soon, she wanted to know more about their lives so that she could get them each a perfect gift. She decided to visit her friend Esmerada who is a great seer. There, upon looking at their past, should help her. Her first daughter,Vivi was known for her potions. The crystal ball showed the time of her first potion store. Her youngest daughter, Honora, was a private investigator. Having caught the drug dealer, Honora cemented her career as a p.I. Clover, being the middle daughter, was a famous author using an alias name. Every so often, I'd find a book that I want to re-read. This is at the top of my list. A real keeper and solid five star rating!
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
This is a nice bit of holiday cheer - book 4 in the Mayhem Sisters series. The story revolves around Elspeth Mayhem, matriarch of the family. She has traveled extensively, and been away from her daughters for extended periods of time. Now she is back home. It's the Winter Solstice, and while searching for the perfect gifts for her daughters, she begins to understand how much of their lives she has missed. With the help of an old friend, Elspeth uses magical means to see how each daughter first began using her specific persuasion. It's an interesting peak into events that helped form the characters of Honora, Vivi, and Clover. My only complaint is that it wasn't long enough!
A make you feel good cozy, that takes a look back at the three Mayhem sisters coming into their own persuasions. Elspeth Mayhem is feeling out of sorts this Solstice season, trying to recapture the loss of her daughters growing up. She gazes into her friends crystal ball to see how each daughter came into their own. But, the most important thing Elspeth learns is not so much what she missed but knowing that she has the present and future with her daughters.
I only wish these books came quicker and lasted longer!!! I absolutely love the Mayhem family!!! Strong women and witches!! Great storylines and now I'm out of books!!! Please write another Mayhem book soon!!!!
Once again I am reminded at how much I enjoy mayhem when it's the form of the Mayhem Witches! This was a wonderful holiday inspired book that showed us how the girls got their start and allowed a mother to become closer. Can't wait for the next one!
Entertaining, might read more involving these characters although a lot of it is stereotypical and trite. The characters are fun, however, and I like the concept of witches having various "persuasions" where their abilities lie. Could use some editing, as there were quite a few typos.
The plot of the story made for an interesting use of flashbacks...I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The background knowledge also helps solidify the characters and their directions.
Another excellent book, well written and very enjoyable. These books get better with each installment. As always I look forward to the next book. The Mayhem sisters are great company to spend the day with.
This was my first reading of the Sister Witches series . Wow. What a wonderfully written book. Delightful characters. Captivating plots. I loved it and will definitely be reading more in this series.
I have come to enjoy the writings of Lauren Quick. Her story are extremely entertaining to read. I look forward to reading her tales and have added her to the list many writers that I must read.
A fast and fun read about a group of sisters who also just so happen to be witches. The stories are fast paced but well written; I read the entire series in just a few days because I just couldn't get enough.
Very sweet story that allows more insight into the Mayhem sisters while also getting to know and sympathize with Elspeth's worries, insecurities, and guilt.
