The Articles of Confederation, formally the Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union, was an agreement among the 13 founding states that established the United States of America as a confederation of sovereign states and served as its first constitution. Even when not yet ratified, the Articles provided domestic and international legitimacy for the Continental Congress to direct the American Revolutionary War, conduct diplomacy with Europe and deal with territorial issues and Native American relations.
The Articles of the Confederation: A Plan of Confederacy for Securing the Freedom, Sovereignty, & the Independence of the United States is an important book to read, independently. If someone is forced to read this in school, most likely they won’t get much out of it. It’s important to have laws and rules. It’s just as important to enforce them.

So much so that the states did not contribute their fare share of money to the United States bank account (so to speak) which caused the SHAYS REBELLION. On to the Federalist Papers I go!
