One of a very few books about writing opera librettos, and therefore valuable for this alone. Contains some useful remarks of a general nature, but is not so useful to contemporary opera writing (post 2000).

With the exception of all the Wagner dick sucking and some old fashioned ideas, this is a fairly useful book.
That being said, we need a new book on the subject, ASAP
