This beautifully illustrated book provides an overview of the history of Impressionism, the characteristic features of this art movement and its principal representatives. But, above all, to me, the book is a lovely souvenir of my recent visit to the Musée d'Orsay where I spent too little time (unfortunately) to fully appreciate these 100 and many more fascinating Impressionist masterpieces consisting of colour, air and light.
'Impressionism was not the undifferentiated movement despised by a few critics. It was an instrument of survival and promotion in a hostile artistic environment, a cold, hard world that did not yet understand all the beauty, grandeur and anxiety of its time.'
I would’ve never thought that I would read an art book straight through, but I surprisingly loved it. I got this from the Musée d’Orsay in France, and it was very interesting to learn more about the influential impressionist artists of that time period. Out of everyone, I ended up loving Bazille the most and believe that he was a very under appreciated artist compared to his friends. Overall, I ended up loving this and all the art and history to go with the paintings.
a wonderful, captivating, invigorating stroll through the impressionists' galleries of the Musee d'Orsay. a gift that i have enjoyed and reenjoyed so many times, and each time i have seen, and felt, something new.
I enjoyed learning about the art that had influenced the Impressionists. It was also interesting to read about how they knew each other and their work to get their art exhibited.
J'aime les copies des peintures. J'aimai lire au sujet d'histoire du mouvement impressionniste.
This was a WONDERFUL surprise from Pon Yeo on my birthday, 2002. He bought in France and brought it back for me. Wow, what a friend! The catalog itself is a phantasmagorical trip through some inspiring Impressionist art!I savor it every time i open it!!
