Cute short story. Applicable to kindergartners getting ready to move onto first grade. Addresses some of the concerns they may have with the transition. Would be great to use at the end of kindergarten to have a springboard discussion/q and a about some of the students concerns with moving on.
I really like this book. It is a great end of the year book. It talks about how you should not be nervous going to the next grade level. This is a book that high level Kindergarten readers could read with some support. Even though it is a beginning to read book I still think that the message is good for the teacher to go ahead and read to her class since the reading level is a little high for most Kindergartners. I would use this my higher level readers in guided reading time. I could also, see reading this book at the end of the year to the class and then talk about and have them write down what they are nervous about 1st grade.
This makes the perfect end of the year story to read to kindergarteners about not being nervous when going into first grade. The reading level may be a little high for them to read by themselves, but this would be a great book to read to your advanced readers with guided support.
