Ivan Kal writes science fiction and fantasy, and is the author of the space opera series Rise of the Empire. For most of his life he had been studying in the fields of electronics, IT, and web design. But because of his great love for books and his need to tell stories, he decided to start writing. His other interests include martial arts, movies and tv, and gaming.
I am loving this series. I can't stop reading them, I have even got in trouble with the wife because I'm always reading at the moment. The slightly chance I get and I start reading.
Why Olympus suddenly become incompetent in all area? Before leaving the Sol system they are a mighty faction in term of political and also a decent security/military. They have governed their own cities for years. Why now they acting like a newbs?
First now they need to form a policing department just after many years in Sanctuary. How does they do policing in the Olympus cities back on Sol? Second They chain of command/Organization chart is a mess! Third they are forming an "Empire" which sound cool, but in reality Monarch is really backward and ineffective type of government. The book said all are equal, but the important position are form by Tomas close circle and I cannot see any check and balances.
This was a much better book, better than the first two.
I enjoyed this book, even though it jumped around to different scenarios. I enjoyed the character development between adrian and Iris and I hope there’s more of that. Who doesn’t love IEA‘s, drones, space battles, science fiction as well as character development. I just hope that the earth forces as they become an empire develop better tech to put them above their enemies, I read too many books where humanity has to slog through not having enough weapons, ammo, Scheels, and that their tech is very inferior I will read the next book and see how it goes.
The protagonist, though constantly describes as a tactical genius, behaves like a utter moron. In reality he would be demoted for crass incompetence. The device used by the enemy is unnecessary, idiotic, absolutely unrealistic overkill for drama reasons...
I liked that the humans are not as strong as they dreamed...
I liked the turn in this one from a well to do guy just out to be a better person than the last. Now we will see his true being and how the human race evolves from this moment. Let’s go!
Man, this book was one heck of a ride! I can’t say much more without revealing too much, but if you were at all a fan of the earlier books this one improves in pretty much every way.
Good continuation here that is starting to pick up steam. The characters are finally seeing some development and the plot is making some strides. It was a long start, but it looks like the plot is finally starting to advance.
I usually do not like war books. The characters in this story have entrapped me. Its so hard to believe that these stories were written 12 years ago. I absolutely intend on following this author to see where he is at today in 2026.
My opinion of the author and this series continues to climb. Great action, character development, and story pacing means that I will be buying the next set in the series soon.
"Out of the Ashes," continues the mediocrity exhibited in both Books 1 and 2 of the "Rise of the Empire" saga. The author has a grand arch of view for his story, but unfortunately, doesn't have the writing skill set to match. Further, an editor/proofreader is again listed on the copyright page. As both the editing and proofreading are below competent, time for a change is well overdue. There is a potential decent story within the series to date, that gets buried beneath the amateurish and unprofessional execution.
No reason to summarize the storyline, as it just continues the cobble-together, stilted, awkward backstories of the prior eBooks. Quantity over quality may have a quality of its own in total war (to paraphrase Stalin); it doesn't apply to SciFi eBooks read for entertainment value.
The eBook was fully read via Kindle Unlimited and retains a "neutral" recommendation.
Story is monks copied manuscripts but left out spaces and punctuation. This story having this done to it maybe more make readable. Hemingway and others wrote on typewriters for a hundred years and wrote stories for mass production and probably had 1 error in a hundred books. Please, do yours over. Give us a story that goes down smooth and easy.
