From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Deborah Bladon - the first ever full-length novel.
Caleb Foster is determined to protect his company's brand and his family's name regardless of the cost. He'll sacrifice whatever it takes to keep things running exactly the way he wants, even if it means sacrificing his younger brother's future.
Rowan Bell has known Caleb her entire life. Their relationship has always been platonic, but when they're thrust into a life changing situation, it creates a new and intense bond between them.
As they lean on one another to accept the unknown, they begin to see something in each other that changes everything between them.
Caleb's inner demons threaten to pull them apart forever. As Rowan finally accepts that not everyone is given the chance to love the person they want, Caleb makes a decision that alters both of their lives forever.
Deborah Bladon had never read a romance hero she didn't like. Her love for romance novels began when she was old enough to board the bus, library card in hand to check out the newest Harlequin paperbacks. She was a Canadian by heart, and by passport, but you could often spot her in New York City sipping a latte and looking for inspiration for her next story. Manhattan was definitely her second home.
She cherished her family and believed that each day was a gift for writing, for reading, and for loving.
I don't understand why this book has such high reviews. It's lacking in so many areas. I wanted to jump into the book and rewrite the story so the characters actually lived up to the title.
I am usually good at picking out great books to read, with well developed characters and plot. Boy was I wrong when I picked this book. It was horrible. The dialogue didn't even match the personality of the characters. The book moved way to fast and did not really focus on the heart of the main story. All in all it was boring as hell. I was extremely disappointed. It was also very predictable and lame. I really liked Rowan and felt she needed a strong leading man, Caleb just wasn't it. I wanted for him to be it so bad but he was all over the place. I was actually hoping she would go out on the blind date with the chef guy to add life to the story.
After reading the other reviews I was a little disappointed of what the reviews said. I have read every single book by Deborah and she never disappoints. This book was a little bit rushed and the ending was a little blah..... I hope we get a free novella to know what happens to Rowan and Caleb.
I did enjoy the story as I am sucker for best friends to lovers but at times it just felt a little choppy and the story lacked a little flow. However, I loved the characters and did get invested in the will they won't they, push and pull they had going on. (full review to come)
Let me start by saying that I LOVE Deborah Bladon. LOVE her. However, I just did not connect with this book and finally gave up at around 75%. I usually love seeing reoccurring characters, but at this point there are so many and it's becoming convoluted. I can't keep track and this plot made me not want to. To be honest, at around the time I quit, I still couldn't figure out what this book and its characters were really about. I hate to not finish it, I almost never do that, but I really felt like I was wasting my time and nothing was happening. Better luck next book...which will probably be Ember.
Great Story! I have read everything that Deborah has written and she never disappoints. I enjoyed this story like all others because her writing is terrific and I loved that it was fast paced and of course her characters are always so rich and deep. Always a perfect amount of sexiness and angst. Another hit!
This is my third consecutive read from author, and I'm pretty sure that I'm going to read few more of her books, especially about those characters who were mentioned in these books...so, I figured even though these are standalone books, lot of these characters seem to have their own books, so I'm interested to know more about their books...back to this book...for the first half of the book, I found myself reading the book blurb once or twice to make sure Caleb was the main lead, because Rowan and Caleb's meetings and conversations were so abrupt!..I felt she spoke more to the other characters than to him...anyway, this book is told from first person POV of the heroine only so, Caleb, for most portion of the book is a mystery, but by the end there are few conversions where he speaks his heart out, and we get to know more of his feelings an thoughts...so despite that fact that I was sightly confused in the initial chapters with what-is-going-on-here, I'm keen to know more about these people and their stories....overall I liked the book, the writing suited me just fine, its a friends-to-lovers trope which I enjoy reading about...and its super steamy/sexy read...!
I recently finished “Bull” and there was a note about cameos from this book. I’ve mostly read her newer works, so I was excited to see stuff back in KU to get more backstories. Thus far not knowing everything/everyone hasn’t stopped me from enjoying each book. Starting this one felt like I was starting a book halfway in. It felt like I was missing a whole lot of background that was only dripped out here and there as it went on. Some of the angst seemed like angst for the sake of it without seriously driving the plot. There were some weird transitions between high angst at the end of one chapter, and the female lead opening the next discussing what she was wearing to work. This was the closest to a DNF by Deborah Bladon as I’ve gotten. I’ll give the next book in the series a chance, but maybe I need to stick to the newer stuff. Not sure if this book is an aberration or she’s just grown a lot as a writer since then.
I somehow missed this book along the way. Loved catching up with these characters again. I have been enjoying the little "society" these books have created where so many characters are intermingled. Caleb is another strong male character......
Pretty much a boring read. Very little to no plot. I have read a number of this author’s books lately and have been disappointed. I thought their were books of hers I enjoyed but this was not one of them.
As much as I wanted to love this story, it didn’t happen for me. It is good, just not one of my favorites. I think there was too much angst between the main characters and that was frustrating after a bit. Will read the series, cause I like many of the other characters.
I'm a big fan of Deborah Blandon and i. Making my way through her extensive catalog, this was a slow read for , found Rowan (main character) frustrating and annoying, the last 80 pages was the redeeming factor and glad a stuck with it....the fosters are a complex Klan
Bell and Caleb make a terrific couple especially transitioning from friends to lovers to more. I’m so happy Caleb was able to work through his fears and concerns to pursue a real relationship with her. Great characters with a marvelous storyline and so much fun to read.
Rowan is a strong independent women who has had a life long friendship with three brothers. Each brother brings a different dynamic to Rowan life. Caleb the middle brother is a control freak who wants to control everything and everyone around him including Rowan. Asher is the youngest brother and is the closest to Rowan. He is sensitive and a recovering addict. Asher has a meltdown at work which results in Caleb having him arrested. Asher's arrest sets the stage for a rollercoaster ride of an emotional journey that is filled with hot tempers, heart breaking moments and smoldering hot passion, that has be in the making since Rowan and Caleb were small children together.
There isn't anything I love better than a Deborah Bladon story, short or long, series or stand alone there hasn't been one book of hers I did not love, and this one is no different. You can read what the book is about so I won't start, I'll just tell you I like a good book with likeable characters, some romance, a good story that holds you to the book and add some good sex and you have me. Chance fills the bill for sure! It's a stand a.one story so there isn't any more parts to it, and even though the male characters are family to other characters in her other books you don't have to read them to enjoy or follow this one! Here is my star and hotness rating 5 out of 5 aren't enough!
I could tell within the first five minutes of reading this book that they were meant for one another. Best friends-ish turned lovers. It's usually a cut and dry story. Best friends fall in love something tragic breaks them apart but they find their way back to one another. This isn't the conventional story. They had so much baggage between them from the beginning any logical person would have said that their relationship would never progress to a more intimate one. I'm glad that Rowan had enough courage to tell Caleb what she really wanted because at the rate Caleb was going they never would've found their happiness. This was a great addition to Deborah's interwoven books. I just wished there was a little more to their story.
Chance is the second full length novel offering by Deborah Bladon. It is a standalone book. This story follows Caleb Foster and Rowan Bell who have known each other all their lives and have been childhood friends ever since. The story of Chance explores the difficulties faced when family, business, friendship, loyalties and love collide. I enjoyed Deborah's way of telling this story and was happy to see appearances by characters from pervious stories. Am hoping at some point we get a Asher's story...he played such a powerful role in this storyline that he will stick with you. Job well done once again Deborah.
First off, let me start by saying that ever since I've read my first book of Ms. Bladon's, I've been hooked. She's an amazing author, with books full of unexpected twists, angst, heat, hurt, and romance. This book though, it was good, not what I normally expect from Ms. Bladon but it was ok. I felt that the story between Caleb and Rowan was missing something, something that's normally felt between Ms. Bladon's books. I wasn't disappointed per-se but, you could say I expected more.
Still a fun read, and I applaud, as I always have, Ms. Bladon's talent. I have and will always be a fan.... that's for sure. This just wasn't her best, in my opinion.
Caleb and Rowan’s story was a huge disappointment because of the repetitive storyline, Caleb’s hot and cold behavior, and Rowan’s lack of pride where he is concerned. It’s inconceivable to me that Rowan would keep subjecting herself to his rejection time and again when he’s more invested in his business than he is in her. These two characters kept talking about their unending friendship but the author doesn’t include those details in the story. Caleb ignores Rowan for weeks at a time, treats her with careless regard, and ultimately he’s self absorbed and selfish. Ultimately there was a lack of emotional connection between the characters and I felt no emotional connection to them at all.
Deborah does it again....this time the male character isn't all alpha and actually shows a lot of vulnerability that is really a bother at first but turns really sexy. Then there's Rowan, I wasn't too certain about her at first either but she is a strong, independent woman who can definitely hold her own and does. And the sex scenes oh boy, get out the fans and ice water because you'll need them! Very good scenes! I was able to read this in one afternoon/evening. It was a fast, easy read. Great job Ms Bladon! Aloha
First let me say I love Deborah Bladon's stories. This book was much anticipated, I felt in the beginning of the story it was hard to put people and relationships together. Other characters from other stories make appearances in this story which happens alot in her books and I love it. However this one did confuse me for a little bit but once I figured out who was who everything fell into place. The story in itself was very well written and I would recommend this story to anyone. Way to go Ms.Bladon once again you have a hit here.
As much as we love trilogies, this book was a standalone novel but is part of the previous books in Ms. Bladon's amazing little universe. I enjoyed Caleb and Rowan's story but I felt like I was jumping in the middle of something and trying to catch up with what was going on. It's because of Rowan's close relationship with Caleb and his 2 brothers, Asher and Gabriel. For those who love an epic love story about two childhood friends who've always been in each other's lives and secretly hides "more than friends' feelings for each other, this book is perfect for you!
I've read the majority, if not all, of this authors books. And I've loved them all. This was still a good book, well written. Surprising for the first time I found a few typos, but not anything that I couldn't easily recognize that word it should have been. The storyline wasn't as strong as some of her other stories. The characters, Bell, Caleb and even Asher were great character individually. I just felt the storyline wasn't as gripping as some of her other titles.
I was looking forward to reading this, but I must admit that it fell it a little flat for me, at times it felt disjointed while I was reading. I didn't feel the connection between caleb & rowan, and rowan to me come across silently desperate. I don't think enough was written about the pasts they all shared. Yes caleb is hot and so is Gabriel and Asher, the only one I saw depth to there character is Asher.
I was pleasantly surprised, I have grown use to your three book series. However, I enjoyed Caleb and Rowan's story. To people who have practically known each other since birth, but were friends for so long, didn't know if they should be lovers, in fear of losing a beautiful friendship they've had forever. Really good. I have to tell you. I love the way your books tell a story as if your just having a conversation as a friend.
I have loved all of Deborah's books and this one was no different. Caleb is another super hot Foster with the right amount of alpha in him. I really liked Rowan, she was a strong female lead. I think the friends to lovers story was told in a way that you can understand the dilemma between the characters. The ending seemed a little rushed but HEA's are always a good thing. Can't wait for the next book.
