The mythology of motherhood is often reduced to cliché. But how do we articulate the complex internal conflicts, the exhilaration and the absurdity of this transformation?
Mothermorphosis is a collection of essays on the experience as told by some of Australia's most talented writers and storytellers.
In these stories we read about the yearning for a child, the private and public expressions of love, identity in the face of motherhood, gratitude, pride, celebration and loss.
Ultimately we learn that there is no one version of this epic story, no one tale that could ever speak for all, and no one way of encapsulating the experience. However, in reading other women's experiences, the hard bits, the ridiculous bits, we can only become more compassionate, not just to other mothers but hopefully to ourselves.
Started and finished date – 21.09.25 to 23.09.25. My rating – Three Stars. This book was okay read but it was little bit boring, and I like the cover of book but it not my favourite cover also I think people who like letters on motherhood by Giovanna Fletcher or arrival stories by Christy Turlington Burns may like is book. The paced of book was well structured and I found this book interesting but bit repetitive.
I read this a chapter at a time, stolen moments while my 3 month old slept. I lay next to him, me in our big bed, him in his co sleeper sidecar and after he was asleep I would have my book ready to go, and devoured a chapter before getting up and dealing with the Cyclone of mess the house is inevitably in.
This is essential reading for any mum. It made me feel so much better, and released a bit of emotion I had locked away too.
Along with dry shampoo, some nice hand cream and a few freezer meals, this is a perfect gift for a new mum.
