Once upon a time, in a deep dark bog, lived a teeny, tiny speckled frog. Now, he might be tiny (the other frogs call him stuff, like 'weedy pants' and 'sugar puff') but his ambition is great. For he wants to be known henceforth as Sir Lilypad! Sir Lilypad the brave and wise! Slayer of the - er - dragonflies. And all he needs to effect this transformation? A kiss from a willing princess, of course… A new fantastically funny, froggy tale from internationally bestselling picture book duo, Anna Kemp and Sara Ogilvie.
i wasn't sure what I was going to make of this, but it was pretty darn good! i received a reading copy of this, i read it to my two year old son this evening, it had dragons, this was a win for him. The story rhymes and flows well, win for me. There is plenty of dialogue, which meant ample opportunity for silly voices, a win for both of us.
The story follows a little frog who is tired of being small, he wants to be a hero. So he goes to find a princess to save. The princess he finds is kickass, she doesn't need a knight in shining (slimy) armour. Sir Lilypad ends up joining her crew and becoming a frog of legend.
This book is doubly awesome. Score one for the little guy, and score one for feminism (girls don't need saving, they can be just as kickass as boys). An ideal story for letting kids know they can be anything they put their mind to.
»»» Nota final (capa e outras considerações): --- [Capa] – Boa capa. --- [Ilustrações] – Esta ilustradora nunca desaponta, o traço é limpo, as páginas são preenchidas q.b., as cores são fabulosas.
Miss 3 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.
We picked this up because it looked cool and once we started reading, I was like 'Yay! Anna Kemp wrote a sequel to her kick-ass princess story'. I love that this continues the idea of not being defined by stereotypes or gender expectations (right down to the villainous pirates at the end including both lads and ladies!). Thanks Anna, love your work!
Awesome continuation of the story from The Worst Princess. Here we have a little froggie wishing to be a mighty knight and hilariousness ensues as he attempts to save a princess for the kiss that would make him grow at least a few inches. The rhymes are great, the illustrations are providing additional details which are not mentioned in the story and the tone is upbeat with a sense of joyous unwillingness to conform to fairy tale norms.
Poor little froggie, he wants to be some much more. His plan to become a knight and save the princess is very difficult at his size. However, he does not give up. The story flows very nicely and was cute to read and fun to listen to how it rhymes.
I really didn't expect to like this so much. It's written in humorous verse--short, but fluid--and it is so fun to read as a result. I also really appreciate the feminism.
