Haha! I totally laughed at the ending--and made my kids go show the book to their dad. :)

This was a great book for my 4-year-old. It's a "First Reader Level 2" for K-1st grade but he's already a little advanced with reading. He thought the story was silly so it was fun for him to read.

There are a few activities at the end of the story for the parent to do with the child: A word list with words from the book; "How Does It Taste?" for your child to draw a picture of their face if they ate Little Critter's sandwich; Action Words where you point to the word/picture; Make A New Word where it has 3 words and 3 pictures and your child figures out how to change the word (ex: Fall to match the picture Ball); What Happened? where there are photos from the story and your child puts them in order; and Word Families where it gives examples of two word families and your child thinks of more words to go in the family (ex: day, say, may).

So, um, some lunches are better than others. Lunches made by Mercer Mayer's little critter are more funny than yummy. Don't read on a full stomach.

I love the corresponding word worksheets at the end of these books. They are wonderful tools for engaging further thought in my 4 year old.
