Flora Dare lives in Durham, NC in a cute little pink house, with her husband, Scott and their hellion of a puppy, HaliToeses. She writes love, lust and mayhem in almost every flavor, and like The Pirate Movie, she wants a happy ending, every time!
A first encounter with the author's writing. I enjoyed this bittersweet story about a woman left alone dealing with with survivor's guilt and being shunned by her village so she petitions the goddess of the sea for the gift of forgetting. In response, she is sent a selkie male who has his own burden of grief. They must work together and unveil her memories on the past to achieve the result she wishes. Only when her memories return, Danae is presented a horrible choice.
I enjoyed the atmosphere and tone of this magical story of fantasy blended with some sort of contemporary parallel earth story. There is intrigue and a feel of the fairytale to it with witches, goddesses, and selkies.
Very enjoyable and I would definitely read more of the author's work.
This is a sad story about love and lose. It's her fault her husband and baby are gone and she doesn't want to remember the pain. He's been sent to help her and himself because his lose is as great as her lose and they are tied together. In all of this sadness maybe there is some redemption. Enjoy I did.
Read in the Roar, Growl & Kiss Anthology as Her Shifter Secret
Danae's husband and daughter are killed in an accident that the whole town blames on her. She asks the sea goddess to help her forget so she can move on, as an answer she receives Liam...a selkie who no longer has his skin. They have to live together until they both open themselves completely to the other. As this happens they grow to care about each other and discover some disturbing facts about the car accident.
This was ok. I would have liked to know a bit more about the veil and the fae and all that good stuff. But Danae and Liam were both likeable and overall I liked the story.
"Hearts can heal" This book is amazing with is incredible characters and fantastic story line. Danae is a witch who had everything a loving husband and a beautiful daughter till two years before it was all ripped away from her. While going to her husbands mothers place they are involved in a auto accident. Danaes husband is killed and her daughter disappears. All the villagers blame Danae for the deaths as they believe her being a witch she should have been able to save them. Danae can not remember all the details of the accident and it just keeps haunting her. Danae lives in a cottage by the sea just out side the village. One day she decides to pray to the Goddess Neya to bless her with forgetfulness. Only the Goddess has other plans so she sends Danae a seal shifter named Liam who some how lost his seal skin plus two years before he also lost his mate. Liam is sent to help Danae heal and hopefully get his seal skin back. When Liam helps Danae get her full memories of the accident back they get a surprise Danae's daughter may still be alive. Plus Liam and Danae grow very closer to each other. This book is fantastic with its suspense, action, humor, mystery and steamy hot Romance!. This is a must read book!.
I received an ARC of this book for a honest review and loved it so much i bought it also. What would happen if you suddenly lost your family? Danae who just happens to be a witch had this sad thing happen to her and the town she lives in not only blamed her they went above and beyond to make her life hell. After years of dealing with this tragedy she prays to Goddess Neya to forget her lost loved ones. We as well all know things ever go as we planned them but as the Goddess knows best. Liam a selkie (seal shapeshifter) is the answer to her prayers. Unlike most shapeshifters selkies remove their skin when they come a shore and if it is stolen they remain as human and you and me.
This book is a tender love story that had me crying in parts and mad in other parts. Don't get me wrong it is hot as hell in some parts as well and if you have ever read Flora Dare's books you know she can write some hotness. I highly recommend this book. Yes it is one of those you need some kleneex, bottle of wine and make sure no one will bother you from page one til the end. I would love to know more about this village so hopefully will we get more stories from her especially I would love to know all about Maude.
I WAS GIVEN THIS BOOK FOR AN HONEST REVIEW AND THIS IS MY HONEST REVIEW ... OVER 18 READERS... A GREAT SHORT STORY THAT I HOPE TO READ MORE ABOUT SOMEDAY ...SOONER RATHER THEN LATER IF MY HOPE COUNTS... This is a very touching story of a young woman Danae, who one day four years ago in a tragic accident lost her family, both husband and child. Afterwards she couldn't even remember everything that happened but what she did haunted her dreams and everyone treated her badly, most business wouldn't even sell things to her , they said sent she was a witch she had to want them dead or she would have saved them. She stopped even going into town unless called to pick up her food. So being a witch one day she cast a spell asking the goddess Neya of the oceans to grant her forgetfulness. Now Neya does send something but not what she thought, but what Neya thought she really needed. Liam was to discover what happened that night that had destroyed both their lives. There journey to discover this is filled with very touching moments, but also a lot of danger they did not expect. But a request granted by a god or goddess always has a price and this one was the hardest for a mother to ever make, but she had to.
A Beautiful Emotional Paranormal Read This is the first time for me reading anything by this author. Well now I am a fan! This book was beautifully written, with characters that you immediately get attached to and root for. The story of Danae who happens to be a witch, draws you in from the beginning and keeps you turning pages until the end. This is a quick little read, but is big on plot, with a wide range of emotions, love, and heat. Danae is suffering in solitude after a terrible loss, and one day she prays to the Goddess Neya to relieve her. The answer to her prayers comes in the firm of a sexy, kind, shifter named Liam. Liam is going through his own loss, not just of a loved one, but of a portion of himself. When the two come together there is obvious chemistry. Will these broken people be able to help each other? After all the Goddess did bring them together for some reason. I really enjoyed reading this story and hope that there is more to come for these two. I was given a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Danae a witch trying to forget a tragedy in her past. Liam a seal shifter ( Selkie) who doesn't want to forget his past. Liam is the answer to Danae's prayers but not the answer she expected. What Liam uncovers puts both their lives in danger.
Dane dipressed, despondent and treated like a pariah in the town she lives in. Shows she has strength determination and a moral code that is unshakable. Regardless of what comes her way.
Liam being sent as the answer to the prayer that Danae made to the godess Neya. Liam seems to be the perfect man caring, loving, considerate, compassionate, the list goes on. He soon has Danae's blood racing and awakens the libido that she thought was long put away.
Her Selkirk secret had a couple of twists that made me go "well I didn't expect that". For a short story it certainly is full of page turning goodness.
Overall I found this an enjoyable read and would recommend Her Selkie Secret to anyone that not only enjoys the paranormal shifter romance but to anyone that likes a good story.
I received an ARC of Her Selkie Secret in exchange for my honest review. I absolutely adored this! I would love for their to be a sequel that takes place in the sea mainly! For once it's a shifter story(other than the usual wolf ones) that is NOT mainly an erotica. It was not a full novel, seeing as I finished it in one day, but I still enjoyed it. It had pretty well developed characters and story line. I did not detect lots of repetitions that seem to be common in these types of reads. I thoroughly enjoyed going through Danae's pain and emotions with her. Liam seems dreamy. Towards the end I had to cry! I do wish, however, that Danae also would have considered Liam and his feelings more in the beginning when they were getting to know each other. She should have been asking to see his memories, instead of solely focused on her own. Other than that I loved this, and hope to see a sequel. I'd love to read and review that!
(copy gifted in exchange for honest review) So begins the story of Liam and Danae. What does it take to forget the horrors of a loved ones lifeless body and the pain of knowing that it should have been you instead of them? What hurts.me the most about this book is Danaes struggle to get back to herself. The fact that she has forgotten that she is a human being that deserves to be treated with respect. She was so blinded by grief she failed to see what was right in front of her face. When danger presented itself all she seemed to care about was the local gossip. I hurt for Danae but I was released to find out that the more time she spent with Liam the more she became herself. The gossip no longer mattered as.Mich as her own happiness did. LORI one of the characters tried so hard to tear everything from Danae and in the end right up there.with no good deed goes unpunished was the saying you reap what you sew. This is a great book and I am glad I have had the chance to read it.
When I first received this book, I had to look up Selkie. I was intrigued by the plot of this book and was pleasantly surprised with it. I really enjoy paranormal romances that have more to the story than sex, and Her Selkie Secret didn't disappoint there! The characters were very well-developed, the world was interesting, and there were some very heart-wrenching scenes that really made this book hard to put down. My only issues with the book are the following: 1) I wish the event that changed the world had been better explained, maybe in a preface 2) The overuse of the word "said." Just to make sure I wasn't incorrect, I did a search for "said" in this book and 5 others by different authors I've recently read. Her Selkie Secret had 3-4 tunes the occurrences of it.
Other than this two things, I really enjoyed it!
I received a copy of Her Selkie Secret in exchange for an honest review.
Given to me for an honest review. If you like sad stories, you will love this one. You will find this early in the story but I like to explain things that might not be common knowledge. A selkie is a seal who can shed his fur (skin) and become human on land. If someone steals his fur, water becomes as dangerous to him as if he were a real human. Danae is a witch who wants to forget something that has kept her in a deep depression for 2 years. Neya, the goddess of the ocean, has heard her wish and will consider it. Unfortunately, Neya doesn't always grant the exact wish and sometimes grants what she thinks will be better for the wishee. Since this is a short book, you will have to discover whether Danae gets what she wants or gets what Neya knows she needs. You will also find out about her selkie.
This book was really good. I have to admit I wasn't really sure about how I would like reading about a seal shifter. I mean basically he's a type of fish. But it worked and it was nice to read a shifter book that wasn't the usual wolf or cat shifter. I enjoyed the writing of Ms. Dare's. She has an intense emotional way of writing. I liked Liam a lot. He was sweet, caring, brave and strong. Danae is broken emotionally but strong and brave also. She is facing the loss of her family as well as the hatred of the towns people where she lives. Liam also is hurting from the loss of his wife. Together they find love and healing through each others support and understanding. I would love to read more about these two.
I received an ARC of Her Selkie Secret in exchange for a honest review. Thank you Ms. Dare for allowing me to ARC for you.
Her Selkie Secret is an extremely short story. That being said, Flora Dare does a great job of giving us a complete story within the pages. Danae and Liam, he's a Selkie sent by Neya to answer Danae's plea for forgetfulness; she wants to move on to a new life forgetting the past. Goddesses don't always give you want you ask for, but rather what they think you need. Danae feels she cannot continue to live the half-life created by her memories. After losing everything to a tragedy, she's a pariah in the barren village of Flickend, who pinned their hopes on her little family, and a very strange village it is too! With Liam's help, Danae starts to live again, only to be incredibly shocked by what is revealed. Can she grab onto her future at the expense of Liam's? (Gifted an ARC for independent review)
I really enjoyed reading this short it was so heartfelt with a HEA at the end. I felt for poor Danae she was going through the worst pain ever mourning the loss of her husband and child. Feeling like she didn't want to go on anymore too consumed by her grief all she wanted to do was forget. So she pleads to Neya the goddess of the oceans to hear plea free her from the burden of her grief and her pain let her forget instead she gets a selkie by the name of Liam who was sent by the goddess. Liam is sent to help Danae with her grief but Liam is dealing with his own grief as well. Overall this was a great novella too grief stricken people overcoming their grief to finding room in their heart to love again.
I was fortunate enough to receive this story from the author as an ARC for a truthful review. I started the story and thought well I will read a little bit and then see what I think. I read the whole story! Couldn't put it down until I found out everything that this author had to say...and I can tell you she did a very good job keeping me on my toes! The characters were good and the story line was very interesting. She had a few twists and turns and I have to say I didn't really see what was coming around the corner. She did a great job explaining some of the elements that were used by the characters...I don't want to leave any spoilers so I'm just going to say READ THE BOOK! Trust me you won't regret it. Good job Flora Dare good job indeed.
Great Paranormal Shorty This is a great paranormal short story by Flora Dare. Danae is a witch who lost her husband and daughter in a car accident, and she can’t move on with her life because she can’t forget the pain of losing them. She pleads to the ocean goddess to help her heal from her grief. Liam is a sexy seal shifter who is sent to help Danae heal, but he wants to learn the truth about what happened to her husband and daughter. This is a great love story, that’s ends with a HEA. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this author. A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
Danae is a witch stuck in a town where everyone hates her and blames her for the death of her husband and child. When she prayers to Neya to make her forget she gets Liam, a Selkie, instead. Liam is also grieving but he is sent to help Danae. Through Liam, Danea learns to stand up for herself and to remember the love she had for her family. There are secrets in her town and when she finally learns the truth behind the deaths of her family and what the town has been keeping, will she be able to move forward and leave the town behind? This is short, sweet read that teaches us that we can have a second chance at love.
I received a copy of this book for a honest review.
This is the first book I read with a seal shifter in it. Some surprising twists in this one. I really felt for Danae losing her family then having that awful town treat her the way they did. She's at her last ropes and wants to forget that awful night. Liam a selkie comes into her life and he's on a mission to get his seal skin back. They must lean on one another to reach the goals they seek. Danae gets her memory of that night back and is shocked to see what really happened. She is soon tasked with a huge decision that is not easily made. It is fast paced enjoyable read that's a little different then I've read before.
I received this in a bunch of books to stuff my kindle. This was a heart tugging story that I cried during. This is about a witch Danae who has lost everything including her husband and child. Her pain is so great that she calls out to Neya, goddess of the sea to help her forget. She is sent a selkie who has also known his share of grief to help Danae heal. We learn about their past and ultimately how they need to help each other grow and heal. I loved this a great deal. It just tugs at your heart strings and refuses to let you go. Enjoy!!
I received an ARC of Her Selkie Secret in exchange for my honest review.
A shifter novella with a difference, instead of your wolf shifter... Flora has given us SELKIE SEAL's.... It's not every day you read a shifter book about seals! Thank you Flora for this novella about finding love again after losing your first love. I would love for there to be a sequal to this novella, or even a serial of novellas...
Danae's a white witch who has lost everything dear to her or so she thinks. Liam is a selkie who is plucked from the sea by Neya Goddess of the Ocean. They are thrown together in a battle of life and death all because of a curse and a little town cut off from magic for years. Will she be able to forget and leave the place that has ignored her for years? Or will she love again and meet some people from the past.
Received Her Selkie Secret from the author for an honest review. This is the first seal shifter book I've read and I'll admit I was impressed. This is a very touching and tender story between Danae and Liam. Both finding solice in each other as they try to forget the pain of losing loved ones. Very well written.
So cool a book. Sometimes when you wish for what you want you get answered with what you need. As the case of Danae & Liam both have been hurting for awhile then when both have asked for help from the goddess Neya to give them peace with answers do they fine each other to heal after a surprising turn of events. Good read
This is a very good, emotional short read. Even though it's only about eight chapters long you really get to know the characters and start rooting for their happily ever after. I would definitely recommend for a quick read.
this book was amazing I've just finished still covered in tears! such an emotional ride and what a beautiful story that just reminds us of the right thing to do even if faced with something we want so bad. I'm such a fan now and I'm buying all flora's books
This is different enough, but still very good read. He is a seal shifter and it worked. This is about finding love again. Both are broken but together can they over come their pasts
