Moments after she is born, tiny kitten Tallulah, with her bright eyes and silver and white fur edged with gold, is whisked away from her father Solomon and dumped in the hedge like rubbish.
After a tough start to life, neglected and abandoned, Tallulah eventually finds a new home with the Lee family and forms a special bond with their daughter Tammy. But Tammy has a terrible secret and Tallulah must do all in her power to keep the family safe.
Moving, uplifting and inspiring, Solomon's Kittenis the story of a cat who heals a family, and explores the true gift an animal can bring to our lives.
Beautiful kitten Tallulah is taken from her father Solomon and abandoned, left to die. She struggles through and makes it to a new family, but after triumphing over her own problems, Tallulah finds that Tammy Lee has serious problems of her own. Does the little kitten have what it takes to help another soul?
It's always great to have a brand new kind of narrator in a novel, and there will be many readers keen to live life through Tallulah's eyes. Haven't we all wondered what it must be like to see the world from a cat's point of view? It's one thing for a writer to get into the mind of a character, quite another to take on the voice of another species and make it convincing. That's exactly what Sheila Jeffries achieves in this book, and Tallulah's tiny shoulders carry us on a rollercoaster ride of emotions.
Animal lovers will see that Sheila has captured the true essence of our feline friends, and it's clear that she has based this story on cats of her own. This is a book that will resonate with those who see the shining light within their pet, who know that their cat understands far more than basic needs such as 'eat' and 'sleep'. Their quirks and perceptive nature are brought to vibrant life here, in a way that could only be managed by someone who knows their animals well.
Cat owners will readily recognise much of the behavior in this book, which obviously helps to sell the story. Early on, our little hero is introduced to the litter tray, and while she uses it happily the first time, she has no interest in returning until its clean, so uses alternative facilities! This opening sequence is an accurate portrayal of the initial difficulties an owner can face with a new kitten, and could make some of us think twice about our angry responses to behaviours that come naturally to kittens.
Thematically, a broad array of subjects are discussed. Some of the material here is tough meat – an age of 11 or 12 up would be recommended here – and all readers are advised that there are some upsetting scenes, as Tallulah's mission to help TammyLee sets her on a difficult and emotional road. Tallulah has a tough start to life, and after overcoming her own challenges she must help and support another – it's about courage and selflessness, and the rewards that come from guiding others through difficult times.
TammyLee has to take care of her disabled mother, so we see how challenging life can be for a teenager who has to juggle this responsibility with school and trying to live her own life – which might encourage some of us to think twice about whether or not we have a hard existence. Then there's TammyLee's ultimate secret, one which should set parents and their children talking about the kinds of difficulty that the social pressure to have sex too early can bring.
Inevitably, and perhaps most importantly, Solomon's Kitten is about that unique bond that is forged between two souls, regardless of whether they are human or animal, and how understanding can transcend mere words.
This book challenges us to see our pets in a different light, as a beloved family member, and that they are creatures with deep feelings much like us. It helps us understand compassion and emotions that young children will often come to experience far to soon. Sheila Jefferies captures the essence of love and understanding, and deals with emotional subjects that shouldn't be ignored.
Essential for cat lovers, recommended for everyone.
Solomon's Kitten is a wonderful sequal to Solomon's Tale, full of spiritual journeys, family, heart break and love. I love'd this book so much from start to finish and Sheila Jeffries is such an amazing person and author. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who belives in the spiritual world and anyone who loves cats.
I just love this author her stories are so heartfelt they never fail to touch you, I cried I laughed I just love everything about this story, helped that she writes about cats because I am one massive cat lover.
This was brilliant a Christmas present and finished reading on Boxing Day! Very sad at the end but a must read for any cat lovers! Will be reading other books written by this author.
just like it's predecessor book, Soloman's Tale, I laughed and I cried...never expected to do so over one cat book, but two.... you have to read this book. I finished them both in less than a day!
I popłakać.
Unabridged audio CD version narrated by Karen Cass.
I've been listening to so much complicated crime which needs you you follow the narrative that I needed something much more gentle and easy listening to go to sleep with, and this was perfect. A very sweet tale of Tallulah and the humans she meets and helps, read from the cat's point of view. Jeffries has thought carefully about how a cat -- and a dog, Amber -- see and understand the human world, although, from experience, most cats do tend to be much more self-centred and selfish than Tallulah!!
Sweet and enjoyable. I would have preferred writing more from a feline point of view than a human view, since it was mostly about Tallulah’s adventure and helping her human mistress.
That aside, it has an important message and lesson - as all pet owners know, animals make us more human, sensitive with their presence.
I discovered Solomon's Kitten at the Library, and i would read it all over again as it was a very enjoyable book. "Magic Puss Cat" Its a lovely story line from Tallulah's point of view, She has some up's and down's but she finds a kind of happiness at the end.
Rated 4 1/2 ⭐️- I’ve just finished this book in a day and a half, I couldn’t put it down and made me absolutely sob at the end. I accidentally read the series backwards as I read Timba Comes Home first - will be picking up Solomon’s Tale first thing tomorrow morning.
I thought it was a great book but maybe a little advanced for young readers. It had a little bad language and references to ....... but over all it was good.
This book left me heart felt when it's really touching and I think it's a bit Morden ok maybe not with the angle cat but the twist and the girl not wanting someone to be involved And I just feel so so much to Tallulah this is such a FANTASTIC book any cat lover will adore this !!!
An amazing wonderful book full of joy heartache and hope so much love and joy found in these pages along with human drama so enjoyed all of it all cat lovers need this escapism makes you cry
This is all about Solomon's kitten, Tallulah, and how she helps a teenage girl, TammyLee through a terrible time in her life. A wonderful, inspiring book.
I wasn't engaged by the writing style, however I skimmed ahead to the last chapter and that made me bawl. I think for fans of this genre, they'll really love this story.
