The general idea behind this book is great. It was a little trite with all the "myths" and "parables" like Gypsum Parable, Parable of the Gunpowder Harvest, Parable of the Baseball Bat... there were alot and they were all trademarked and all equally cheesy. I'm not a fan of catch phrases though, so his cleverness was just wasted on me. I do like reading Dave Ramsey- I don't like listening to him, but I do like reading his books. Pretty straight forward and no nonsense. Bottom line- my six dollar investment didn't pan out.
This book kind of sneaks up on you. The title grabs your interest in one topic, but the book begins by talking about spiritual misconceptions. Throw in a little history and some politics and then finally the principles of money management and usage. The spiritual overtones remain throughout. At times, the writing put me off a little, but this is true in many self-help books. However, the stories and arguments kept pulling me back in. I know I have found some reminders and strategies that will help me keep my mind and efforts straight to keep from sabotaging my focus.
I went back and forth on this book. There were parts of it that really annoyed me, but I learned some interesting things and there were parts of it I really liked and agreed with. I think for me, the good out-weighed the bad.
This book is full of information. I read it thinking it was just a finacial advice book, but it was far more. Good analogies pretty straight forward and to the point really got me thinking.
