The Whisperers: A Three Book Box Set

Rate this book
A three book set. The Nash family has a legacy - no females are ever born into the family and all of the men are Whisperers. And their ability to charm doesn't stop with horses. No, indeed, women are drawn to them like the proverbial bee to honey.
And there's one catch. There's a curse on the family, one that makes a Nash man's chance at happily ever after slim to none.
At least until now. Join Jed, Jake and Jesse as they discover that there are things in this world stronger than curses, and that despite the fact that they are not looking for love, love just might find them.
Book One: Staking a Claim
Lust was a horse he could ride. Love? He didn't believe in love. Until she walked into his life and changed everything.
Jed Nash had a few simple rules in life. (1.) Family always comes first, (2.) Know when to keep it in your pants, (3.) Don’t mix business and pleasure, and (4.) Don’t believe in love. All it brings is misery and heartache.
He had no trouble following his own rules. At least not until the new trainer on his ranch shows up. He was expecting a man. What he got was a woman who had him battling attraction that was hot and wild. Sure as sunshine, if she stayed he wouldn’t be able to keep his hands off her.
Book Two: Making a Stand
Jake, the good-time boy of the family, is finally stepping up to the plate and doing everything he can to help the family. He’s not only eager to help save the ranch, but also to prove to Teddy Morgan that he’s a man she can trust and depend on.
Seems the timing couldn’t be worst. The woman set on destroying the Nash family will stop at nothing to exact her revenge. No one will stand in Deidre Manning’s way. Not even her own stepson who is plotting against her.
Jake isn’t sure how to go about thwarting the Mannings and saving his family any more than he’s sure how to win Teddy’s heart. But he’s determined to do both because now that he’s found the woman he knows he wants to spend his life with, he’s going to do everything in his power to prove to her that he’s the right man for her.
Book Three: Taking a Chance
Jesse Nash has seen more trouble in the last year that in all the previous years of his life combined. And he's more than ready for some good times.
He'd planned on retiring from the Rodeo circuit, but his family needed money and the Rodeo was his best bet of a big payday. And it paid off – in more ways that one. Not only did he take home the buckle and the purse as All Around Cowboy at Nationals, but he met someone – someone who has him thinking about more than a quick roll in the hay.
The problem is, the woman he is interested in, Carly Marsh, wants nothing to do with love and commitment. A quick roll in the hay? That she can do.
The tables are turned and Jesse isn’t quite sure how to deal with it. But he’ll figure it out and somehow convince Carly that he’s worth taking a chance on.

I was given this audio book set free in exchange for an honest review. These books had chiseled cowboys, horses, sexy women, hot sex, family, romance and mystery. What could there be to not like? Enter the paranormal. I was fine with the horse whisperers, I was even okay that some of the women had "special powers". I found it hard to accept that the three sisters all had special powers when one of them had been adopted. Then another family is brought in and low and behold...special powers! Some of the relationships just sprang up like a puff of smoke--way too fast to be believable. At times I really was invested in the story, but at other times I just wanted it to be over.
The narration by Kevin Clay was very good. A few of the voices I didn't like very much, but there were A LOT of characters in this book. There were at least nine. Kudos to him for even being able to come up with that many different sounding voices. I would definitely listen to other performances by him.

There were grammatical/punctuation errors throughout all 3 stories, most in book 3. Speaking of 3 stories, I didn't really understand why the author wrote them this way. I get more $$, but it's not possible to read just one, unless you don't want to find out how it ends. Even after reading the 2nd story, nothing has really been answered. Needless to say, I was not a fan of how the books ended, specifically the 1st & 2nd. Or the nice and neat way that the main characters fell in love so quickly.

How old were all the characters? That would have been nice to know. I get that the male characters were all cowboys, but did the females have to constantly refer to them as 'cowboy'. IDK, that just annoyed me.

Needless to say, I wasn't really a fan of this series.

Book 1

So for generations the Nash men have been having the same dream, yet, none have tried to figure out what it meant or who the lady in was? Very strange.

Mik & Jed are both the oldest of their siblings (each have 2) and they both enlist after their parents die? Could the author not have thought of something different?

If both Mik & Jake graduated from husbandry class involving the caring of horses, how did Jake not know how to re-shoe them?

Mik overhears Jeb flirting with a lady at the bar and turns into a total nutcase. I seriously could not figure out why she went so crazy? Jeb was the one that said 'I love you' first and I doubt he would have just gone off with this other lady after telling Mik how he felt.

How in the beep did Jesse go from riding in rodeos to suddenly being a detective? I understand he had a criminal justice degree, but still. He would have had to start off as a cop first. How was he able to get all this investigative stuff done after the death of the animals from the poisoned water, when it was what? Like a couple days after starting the detective job? Right...
--------------------------------------------------

Book 2

I found it bad that in book 1 & 2 there's a big fight between the two main characters (Mik & Jed, Teddy & Jake) which were caused by Dalton. Then after they make up the male is proposing. Coincidence? Doubtful.

Teddy- "I need more than sexual attraction and I need to know that the man I choose is someone I can trust with more than just my body." Yet, right after saying that she's stripping for Jake. And the way she said that made it sound like she was a virgin or something...Is that something she said to all the guys she slept with?

Dalton was able to destroy the phone his step-mother had used to frame him. How did he even know about it though?

How did Ellie's family ever seek help from Jeb about the scroll? I never understood that part at all. Then bringing in the Fae aspect to the story...kinda stupid. Almost like the author didn't know what to do or something.

Again another case of overreacting, this time with Teddy. Her basically freaking out because Jesse was flirting with someone other than Alex. Seriously though, how old is Teddy? If she knew Alex at all, which she claims multiple times in book 2, she would have known to stay out of their relationship. But no, total nut job there. Especially after Alex gets shot, supposedly by Jesse. Yes, because that would have made total sense.

The contest Jake entered seemed way to accommodating. The fact that they paid for the tickets, hotels, car, and most likely food and everything else for contestants...unless he's living with the other contestants, I doubt any company/contest would spend that much money.

I was really confused about the finances for the farm. They needed to repay the Marsh family ($200k), to pay the owners of the horses that died, and basically to get back on their feet. Where did they get the $200k to repay the Marsh's?

What was with Alex when Jesse was fighting with Dalton? I assume letting us know that she's crazy like her sisters? I mean she keeps hanging onto Jesse's arm and screaming, to what exactly? I was glad when he punched her in the head, even if it was an accident.

Where were Alex and Dalton shot?

Another crap move for the author was when the fight was taking place. She described everything that was going on, makes sense...but, later when Dalton and whoever was watching the recorded video of the fight, again we get the same exact description of what was going on.

Teddy is doing her thing with Dalton's necklace, she informs him of his father and what happened, when suddenly she sees Deidre phoning whoever to have Alex and Dalton killed. How would she have seen that when Deidre hadn't been wearing the necklace? Unless Dalton remembered she had been wearing it when his father died (doubtful) and was able to get into her house to reclaim it? Even more doubtful.

After the video, Teddy feels her and Dalton need to go back to the farm to tell everyone all the stuff they have learned. Basically stuff that everyone else already knew. I didn't get that part either.

Again after the video, Teddy is repeatedly saying how insane Deidre is...yet, she saw the Sara's ghost. So that would prove Deidre wasn't insane.
-------------------------------------------------

Book 3

I found it strange that Carly wasn't looking for a committment with Jesse in the beginning, only sex, even though "he was the kind of man that would be all too easy to fall for".

"But he fine as frog's hair split four ways." Huh??

Considering this story seemed close to a PG rating, when Carly thinks of how she would like to throw Jesse to the floor and 'rape him', that was actually surprising, considering the author could have phrased that differently.

What was going on with Eldric? He was never described or anything, yet, suddenly Alex is in love him. ???

What was with Carly and the fact that her mother had lied to the family? It was like Carly was hoping her siblings or Mik would be mad or something...just with her going on about it the way she did. "I wasn't speaking ill of Mom..." Actually you were the whole time...

And again with Teddy and her weirdness over Alex and Jesse not being interested in each other. What the hell was with her? Freaking out when Jesse showed up Carly?

I couldn't help but notice how incompetent the men Deidre chose were. They weren't able to kill Alex or Dalton and failed when they attempted to kill Henrietta and Carly.

There was never a ghost! Why the hell would Henrietta have made Deidre believe there was a ghost, considering it was the ghost that she was listening to...doing all the bad stuff to the Nash's, Mik, and her sisters. That made no sense there.

I glad I was able to read the in a box set because the stories are very connected. Some of the supporting characters seem very familiar to me although I don't recall ever reading any of these books. I was provided a free audio version and am voluntarily reviewing, also I want to mention that the narrator does well with dictation, pronunciation and inflection.
Staking a Claim*****Staking this claim is an adventure full of humor and their chemistry is electrifying. Love the paranormal elements and the family support system. Jek and Mik are both very strong and independent characters so they bump heads constantly. Very entertaining read with a family history and magical mysteries to solve. This couple is my favorite in the trilogy.

Making a Stand****This is good, the intensity of the unsolved mysteries is building anticipation. Jake is bit more mild mannered and is no ways as much of a hot-head as Jed is but Teddy on the other hand is just as feisty as her sister. Jake is very patient with her though. Deidre's plan is plowing through the family causing unpredictable and dangerous happenings. This story is shorter than the first, fast-paced but just as gripping.

Taking a Chance*****Wow, this ties up some loose ends but not all. The plot thickens and is focused on the suspense of these families, their connections and paranormal abilities. I was surprised that the author matched Jesse up Carly yet the reasons being become very obvious. Another great story, there has to be more though because this seems to be the end, there is enough hype to the mystery for there to be a new beginning trough some of others characters getting a chance to tell their stories.

In “Staking a Claim,” when Jed and Mik meet there’s an obvious connection, but it’s not without its challenges. There’s someone who’s plotting revenge and determined to bring both their families down. But Jed and Mik, with the support of their siblings, will do whatever it takes to keep what’s theirs safe.

In “Making a Stand,” Jake and Teddy’s story continues, and it’s a roller coaster of emotions, as their families struggle to overcome the malicious machinations that have now turned life threatening and may lead to tearing them apart. However, their biggest challenge may be figuring out how to fight someone whose insanity seems to have all the power.

In “Taking a Stand,” Jesse and Carly develop their relationship as they face quite a few unexpected surprises along the way. While circumstances begin to reveal family secrets, the intrigue and suspense builds toward a dramatic and near lethal conclusion.

These are intriguing stories, filled with plenty of drama and lots of passion. The storylines are fast-paced, and the characters are well-drawn. Overall, these are captivating tales that will grab your attention at the start and hold your interest throughout. The only thing missing was an epilogue to wrap up how the villain ended up, which only slightly detracts from this engaging and entertaining series.

abandonados
September 19, 2020
Me enrollo. Total, pierdo el culo intentando leer todo lo que me llama la atención del catálogo. No es lo normal, suelo hacer un poco de investigación antes de empezar un libro o audiolibro, no siempre.
Resultado: abandonados a mansalva.

Esta trilogía me llamó la atención. Esa portada... Umm.
Finito

I think I would have been upset had I bought these books separately. They would have been too short and incomplete. Together they made a rainy day or beach day reading choice. I still enjoy Stone's writing, but these stories left me feeling as though something was missing. I did like how the story wrapped up at the end, but even that seemed meh...just okay. The boxset is a quick read. I found myself skimming some parts that I found repetitive or unnecessary.

Ok

Stories were short and to the point. There was a continuing mystery throughout the series, so all were cliff hangers. Unprotected sex continues and editorial errors also.

Audiobook - 2 stars - It was OK

Narration - Kevin Clay - Pretty good

The stories? Hmmm.

These three books cover the stories of three sisters and three brothers as they meet and face several dangers.
The stories are pretty basic and simply written, but they contain just about every element you have ever seen in every romance novel you've ever read all smashed into this one little series.

In the prologue, we are given hints of what's to come, perhaps a curse?

As our first couple meets and are experiencing insta-love, it's during their first round of sex that we learn this is a paranormal romance. So that was a little weird to me, no explanation really of these paranormal abilities or variations to the world that they live in because of these abilities-or other's of their kind. It just happens to be these three brothers, and then these three sisters (even though one of them is adopted) who seem to have these paranormal traits.

When they have their required argument and temporary break-up. He calls her a - I think it was Lying B**ch! I had two problems with that. First that their paranormal abilities allow them to feel and connect with the other in a way that he would easily be able to tell whether she was "playing him" and two that calling any woman a B**ch of any kind did not seem to be a part of his character. In each of the books, there are moments like these where one or the other flips out over very minor transgressions.

There is also the obligatory injuring and hospitalization of one of the main characters and in comes another family that happens to be fae.

I don't know, maybe this is a case of it's me, not you, because I see other ratings that are pretty high for these books, but they were a little too "beginner" for me.

The narrator has a great and pleasant voice, but he's dealt a ton of characters in this trilogy so that's hard for anyone. If I had to choose the high point for these stories, it would be the narration. I enjoyed listening to Kevin and his voice is probably what kept this from going into the DNF pile.

Great story

Wow, what an amazing intertwined tale. I read the first one in the Hot Western Nights collection and I was so intrigued by the first volume of this series that I had to buy the rest of the series. I was not disappointed. There are three love stories that despite many trials and tribulations are very sweet and an enjoyable read. There is a lot going on in the story, Jed and Mik are the first story to be told. Mik is a witch and Jed is a whisperer, but in addition to abilities, someone is trying to destroy Jed and his two brothers. By the end they learn someone is after Mik and her two sisters. The next story is Jake and Teddy's. Again supernatural abilities are happening, but the person trying to ruin these two families takes drastic measures and shoots Alex and Dalton while framing Jesse. In response to the attempted murder of her sister Teddy latches on to the the fact Jesse is accused and blames Jake for believing Jesse was innocent and refuses to let anyone change her mind. She end up alone and moving away from the mess she made of her life, until she learns the truth and goes to mend the fences she destroyed. The last story is Jesse and Carley's a and boy are there some major surprises in this story. It is the end of the series, but it is definitely interesting and keeps you entertained and turning the pages to find what happened next.
This was a very complicated tale, but it was told well and everything came together in the end. Definitely recommend it! A great read over the weekend

Three amazing stories!

As a whole, this series was great. I loved the way that the stories flowed from one to the next. There were some twists they that I didn't see coming which were magnificently done. The ending was completely satisfying.
I was planning on rating each story individually but they just flow together. Even though they are really three stories and have distinct divisions, the perspectives change in all of them and the overarching storyline is the same through the entire series. If, at some point you can buy them separately, I would still get the whole series together because, while there aren't really cliffhangers, each story starts where the last one left off. For that reason, the box set is very nice.
All of the brothers are magnificent and their talents are perfectly fitted with their women. I loved the way that the families were a huge focus. There was the whole story line but the characters were always the ones moving the story along. If you like action based stories, this is not one for you. But if you can fall in love with amazing writing and characters, it definitely is.
Also, warning, this book is not clean. It's not x rated but it is definitely at least pg13, or even r17 at parts. There is swearing but not to an extreme and it's well within context.

--I was given this audiobook in exchange for an honest review

Cowboys...what more do I have to say? Romance, suspense, chemistry, paranormal powers, this three book set has a little of everything...especially cowboys! In all seriousness, this trilogy was extremely fun to listen to. Starting off with Jed and Mik(my favorite couple), the chemistry was great. Loved the intensity, stubbornness, stupidity and love that Jed put forth. Moving to Jake and Teddy...in this story, Teddy was my favorite. Very relatable, could see real life in this character and loved how she was looking out for everyone while watching her own life falter. Last with Carly and Jesse...I loved both these characters. Coming together, realizing that they were meant to be while dealing with all kinds of turmoil. I have to say, the supporting characters of Dalton and Henrietta, even Deidre were amazing. Loved Henrietta the best, very wise and kept us guessing her role in the whole trilogy the entire time. This set of books definitely was wonderful.

Kevin Clay, a perfect fit for this set. His accents for the southern droll, female voices(which many men do not do well) were spot on for them and just love his voice. Definite listen for those that love cowboys, suspense and romance!

An exciting paranormal read...
I received this audio book as a gift in exchange for a honest and unbiased review. This is a set of 3 book in a series total. I found the set fun and exciting and even a bit dangerous (suspense). This is a paranormal Fae read. I loved how the ladies teamed up with the Whisperers to solve a huge mystery. Who has been sabotaging everything on their ranch. Who poisoned the water and killed the livestock? Definitely a unforgettable turn of event with more twists and turns in it that a freeway.

The author, Ciana Stone did a great job on this series. The plot is excellent. It is exciting and scary and romantically hot even! The narrator, Kevin Clay did a superb job in his delivery of this series to us. With his accents and multiple voices, his reading is very believable and entertaining too! Kudos to you both for a fine job! This book was so good, I read it straight thru today! I started it this morning and now it is almost midnight!

BOOK REVIEW....

Not at all what I expected. I was really surprised I liked the books.I don't normally read western romances. However the paranormal aspect pulled me in. Full of romance, steamy sex, cowboys, curses, ghosts and some magic. All three books were good reads. An exciting ride through a mixture of suspense, romance and a bit of the paranormal. These were all well thought out stories with some strong characters. But there were a lot of typos in the book that did get annoying after a while.

AUDIO REVIEW......
I found the narrator to sounded like he was very bored. The characters were different sounding and you could easily tell the difference of who was speaking. However they were annoying sounding. I didn't like the sound of them at all.

I was in the mood for a cowboy romance and found a great deal for three of them. The Whisperes are three brothers who own a fairly successful ranch and have some special abilities including being whisperers. Meeting three sisters seems convenient and for a couple of them things do turn out to be. That is not their only ability and mixed with the ladies, there is plenty of magic in the air. But what would life be without some treachery along the way? These guys have a curse attached, no successful relationships. Their family history seems to prove it true.

Meeting the right women make them want to take a chance and fight the curse if they have to. This one has good main and secondary characters, steam galore, and an interesting plot. Well worth the time and price.

This a three box set featuring the way to hot Nash brothers who happen to be Cowboys. Need I say more? The men in their family have been plagued by a curse for centuries, never to find love or happiness. Each Nash comes with their own abilities to charm animals or people called a whisperer. The boys have met their match when they are thrown together by circumstance to meet their mates, the March girls. Grab the set and follow their stories.

I was given the privilege of reading and reviewing for this awesome author. OMG. Talk about twisted and psychotic. I really loved this series, it is one that definitely need to read in order or you will get lost for sure.
Loved all the different character twist where you think you know what's coming and the story goes nope it's going that way not this one. It was really nice where you eventually find out what's really going on .

Love and Magic!

A great story about couples in love who just happen to have some added extra mystical abilities. They have the same troubles as most couples but how the deal with things has a little bit of a twist. There's secrets, mystery, and intrigue. Love their stories and would love to know more about these couples. I highly recommend this book and anything from this author!
