Loves’ Conqueror by Renee Hand is a swashbuckling adventure sure to keep you entertained. Ms. Hand’s well-developed characters, easy to like and to hate in some cases, make you want to board ship and sail with them from England to the Caribbean and back. I especially like that Ms. Hand started the book with a prologue to give the reader background history before jumping into the story. The heroine, Miranda Mayne, is a beautiful, brave, and sometimes petulant young woman raised by a surrogate father, who does his best to keep her on the straight and narrow, while her real father continues his escapades as a cavalier pirate. The greed of one of the queen’s men pulls Miranda into a mystery that threatens the lives of her friends and family. One can’t have a true pirate story without hidden treasures and handsome men and Loves’ Conqueror is no exception. Twists and turns keep the tale moving until the very end.
Loves' Conqueror is a swashbuckling Pirate with a heart of gold love story. I love a good Pirate romance. The main characters are Locand and Miranda. Locand is a Pirate and Miranda is the daughter of one. Miranda is of marrying age and accepts a proposal to a man she thinks her father would chose for her. She quickly sees the error of her ways as he is not quite as he appears to be. What follows is a fun and suspenseful story of adventure that only a pirate can provide. My only displeasure with the book was the sometimes seemingly long rambling of the characters as well as some lengthy descriptions that seemed to be unnecessary. All in all I enjoyed this book and will be looking closer at her other works.
"I received this book in exchange for an honest review."
I had a lot of issues with this novel. The one thing I really liked was the story line. However, it went on slightly too long. Also, I wasn't the biggest fan of the writing style. There were sections I was sighing with frustration as the novel has really fast sections to it, and then slows down to an aggravating speed.
Miranda accepted Lord Hammil's proposal for marriage in an attempt to use him to taking her to an island where she could find her missing father. The real question which must be answered is who is playing whom? In a wonderfully mastered game of backstabbing and deceit, this book will keep you turning pages. This story is a hot sexy swashbuckling good time filled with love, lies, and dangerous pasts which keep causing trouble. I only have a couple of complaints about this novel, first Miranda spent the whole book learning about sword fighting I would much rather have had a sword dual at the end instead of a single shot this ending was kind of anticlimactic after all of the build-up. Second there was a group of characters added at the end with extensive backgrounds, while I agree these characters are important to the plot they were not developed enough throughout the book and they seemed like an afterthought to tie up loose ends, but they only added more questions. Those issues aside I would still highly recommend this book to anyone who likes romance, adventure, and pirates.
I love historical romances especially when they involve London balls and pirates! This book was a slow start for me. But by chapter 5 I was properly hooked and couldn’t wait to find out what was going to happen to the characters. The book easily could have ended at chapter 23 but I am glad that it did not! The final 2 chapters of this story were almost like a mini novel inside of the book. If you like historical romances the I think you will enjoy this read just try to make it past the first 5 chapters and you won’t regret it.
This was my first period novel and also my first read about pirates and high sea adventures. There were some slow points, but all in all I really enjoyed the twists and turns and the love story. There were several layers that kept revealing themselves and there were times you thought you knew what was going on, then the author flips things around to keep you guessing.
I lived Locand and Miranda, the supporting characters were also well developed and the ride was fun.
