I received Corrupt Practices from the author in exchange for an honest review. I accepted it because the book description intrigued me. I wasn’t sure what to expect since I do not normally read thrillers, and certainly not political ones.
When Mariel Knowles arrived for her first day as an intern for Senator Roger Taylor, she is full of optimism for the opportunity to advance with his campaign team until she meets his brother, Dallas, her boss. He is arrogant and down right mean, insisting she’s late when her email clearly stated that she was supposed to start at nine o’clock, not eight.

After meeting the charismatic senator who is nothing like his brother, she discovers her office is nothing but a closet and her desk–one of those one piece jobs she used in high school–with no computer, no phone. Then to top it off, Dallas tells her to go make coffee and order lunch for all the workers in the office.

Although, she can’t stand Dallas’ attitude, she can’t keep her eyes from roaming over his fantastic body. When she discovers something that could lead to the senator’s downfall, she’s forced to work with Dallas to stop the sabotage. Can she handle being in his presence without succumbing to the desire that burns hotter every day?

Corrupt Practices is an easy and entertaining story, easily read on a lazy Sunday afternoon. The pacing keeps the story moving along, and the deliciously sexy chemistry between Mariel and Dallas kept me flipping the pages on my Kindle fast.

There is plenty of intrigue and action in this novella, making it an exciting read. I like Ms. L’Amoreaux’s smooth and flowing writing style and her sparkling dialogue between the hero and the heroine. For a shorter book, the plot and characters have surprising depth.

I loved how Mariel’s character turns lemons into lemonade when she quickly turns chaos into order within the office, earning the respect of her fellow c-workers even though Dallas treats her like in less than a flattering light. She is feisty and at times, snarky with Dallas.

Dallas is a hard character to truly like because he is such an ass to everyone, but as the story unfolds, and I saw his dedication to protecting his brother, it kept me from hating him as much. His softening attitude toward Mariel when they race to find the culprit helped as well.

If you like reading a story with plenty of spice and great suspense, along with unforgettable characters, then you will enjoy Corrupt Practices as much as I did. This is the first book in the Corrupt Trilogy, and I look forward to reading the next book. Happy reading!

Politics, dirty secrets, and lust make a winning trio, don't you think?

It's a historical combination that works every time, and the author does a remarkable job at achieving just that.
Mariel is young, smart and driven, but on her first day as an intern for a senator, she comes face to face with a dragon of a man. Confrontational, stormy, too handsome for his dark mood, Dallas Taylor bullies her from inute one and isolates her from actual work.

I loved how she rises to the challenge. Even though her tasks are below her knowledge and capabilities, she manages to excel and dash her boss. It was exhilarating to witness this hot dance between Dallas and Mariel. He was trying to push her to her limits while she stood up to every grueling test. And the, after some scorching hot build-up, he proved he could be as rough and demanding in the office as in the bedroom. Or should I say as in his apartment? That man is hard to please and doesn't allow for any closeness!

I really felt sorry for Mariel. She's so nice and smart, she deserves better treatment.

All the political office dynamics prove to be as gripping as the complicated relationship between Mariel and Dallas. Their first intimate encounter leaves her bruised and teetering on giving up. I was really biting my nails with all the emotional turmoil. From that moment on, the plot thickens with a dark conspiracy that threatens the Senator's office and puts Mariel out of the shadow and right into dangerous activities. I really enjoyed the mix of political corruption, brotherly loyalty, virile domination and melting sensuality. I can't wait for part two to delve deeper into the mystery!

Dallas and Roger Taylor are part of the Government politics and Mariel a new intern is being handled as if she is a mere toddler or so how Dallas treats her which she has a degree and can do more than being a coffee maker or a maid but do real work but will she ever get to or will she have the tedious jobs and what happens if a close friend tries to hurt the taylors and who is it that may be blackmailing them and who kills or tries to kill someone they know . find this and more when you buy , read and review . stay tuned to corrupt policies

Loved every minute of this book. Mariel is such a strong person, who works hard for everything she has accomplished. Dallas is a ranging prick with a soft side (that he shows later down the road) but I was really wanting to punch the guy in the first half of the book. What I would have loved was to have his POV in the book, just to know what he was thinking when it came to Mariel. Even though the book was not as long as I wished it could have been, it still flowed nicely and didn't feel to rush. I love the fact that there is no insta-love between the characters. They worked well together after the initial breaking and I am so looking forward to reading more about them. I need more Dallas and Mariel.

I read Corrupt Practices as part of an anthology however here is the review piece from that anthology:

My favorite story was Corrupt Practices by Penelope Lamoreaux. It is the start of a sexy group of stories (at least it seemed that way) loaded with intrigue and politics. I enjoyed Mariel’s personality in that she wasn’t a doormat. And Dallas was as alpha as you can get. The end sets up the next book but this story isn’t a cliffhanger – no worries! Once I started it, I couldn’t put it down. Sexy, hot, grab-you-by-the hair story.

I was lucky enough to receive this book as an ARC for an honest review.

Penelope L'Amoreaux had me at the prologue and kept me in her grasp right to the final page. The characters are great, the setting was good, and the writing flowed very well and was easy to read. Corrupt Practices had everything a reader wants... angst, secrets, mystery, attraction, with incredible sex thrown in. I can't wait for the next book in this trilogy.

I guess I'm missing something all the others with high ratings have had. Dallas is a jerk to put it very mildly. I think I'd even rate him in my top 5 least favorite male leads. He likes control- I get that, and it can even be hot in some situations, but he acts like a major jerk to retain control. This is not a love story, this is just a story about a guy that treats the girl like trash but she takes it all because he's hot. No thanks.

Decent read, I don't know if I want to read the next two though. It was weird that the author did it one sided. I wanted to know how the male thought about things. The story could have been better though.
