Choose Your Own Death

Rate this book
Goultown. The sort of place where kids could walk down the street in the middle of the night. Or accept sweets from strangers because strangers were just friends you hadn’t met yet. A place where grown-ups got tattoos of smiley faces and if kids graffitied, they were sure to do smiley faces too.
That was before the murders began. After Sally Ellerson drowns at the chocolate factory, you know there’s something weird going on. It’s time to take charge.

Choose Your Own Death is a path-picking adventure where every wrong turn unleashes an eldritch evil. If you don’t solve the mystery soon, the next death could be yours.

I didn’t know much about the book before ordering it, so the only downside for me what how short it was (Not much shorter than most young reader choose your own adventure, but shorter than some adult options) This books is an easy but creative read for young adults and adults alike. If you love choose your own adventure and have a sense of humor it might just be worth adding to your book shelf.

"Choose Your Own Death" by Marianna Shek is hilarious!

As the title suggests it is you, the reader, that holds your survival in your own hands by the choices you make. As I was reading the book I lost count of the number of ways I had died, all rather imaginative and had me laughing throughout. Whilst reading it evoked such comments (from me to my partner) as “ooops”, “I should not have done that”, “it seemed like a good idea”, and “I died again!", as I was choosing what to do.

This fast paced, easy to read story is not lightly put down; I had to find out all of the ways I could die after completing the book, so I read it again. The choices are not always obvious, which appealed to me.

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a light read, a good laugh as it is fun for all readers! The sense of adventure is unavoidable.

The feel of the story is assisted tremendously by the talented illustrator Tara Brown. Tara captures the ghoulishness of Goultown delightfully. The author and the illustrator really work well to produce a harmonious story.

Do you do the sensible thing or do you take a gamble? The choice is yours readers!

In this pick a path style book, you are one of the only 5 kids left in your town. Together you are trying to solve the mystery of what happened to the other children. You have to be careful, because around every corner lurk things who seem intent on killing you! There is a lot of suspense and a lot of lot chilling surprises. And of course, lots of ways to die.

The writing style reminding me of the Goosebumps books, and I found it difficult to put down. I actually read the book three or four times, so that I could make different choices and I got to read a completely unique story each time. I would highly recommend this book.

I read this book to my two tweens and we thoroughly enjoyed it. It is very much in the old school style of Roald Dahl where kids and grown-ups alike meet their ghastly end in a myriad of hilarious and far-fetched ways. You the reader, with the help/hindrance of little Amelia, the resident zombie of an abandoned orphanage, get to solve the mystery of who or what is behind the disappearances of all the kids in Goultown. Well written prose and very entertaining.

Really fun! Gets more macabre and funnier the further you go.

A really fun read for adults and children’s. Tho I wouldn’t recommend it form kids under 11 given the surprisingly effective horror motifs. Hilarious in nature it’s a fun filled light book for adults and scary and gripping one for children.
