Rose and Jacob

Rate this book
Set in the beautiful coastal town of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, ‘Rose and Jacob’ explores two loves stories—one lost in time and the other flourishing in the present. McKenzie (Mack) Harper needs to get away and the small cottage just outside of Cape Elizabeth is the perfect location to unwind and bond with her six-year-old nephew, Lucas. It’s here at this quaint summer rental that Mack discovers a diary dated March 4th, 1947, which pulls her into a world of love and heartache.

Each entry into the diary is brought to life through the words written by nineteen-year-old, Rose Degan, who falls in love with a man her parents disapprove of. Her heart knows what and whom it wants, Jacob Evans, a fire fighter in Cape Elizabeth. He hasn’t been in town long when they meet on the cliffs while she watches the rescue of a crew from a collier ship that went aground during a fierce storm.

Back in the present, Mack discovers that Jacob is still alive and tries to find him. She leaves a message that falls into the hands of Jacob’s grandson, Dean Evans. With his curiosity piqued, Dean decides that the mystery woman, along with her diary, is an excellent excuse to slip away from home, earning a break from his mother’s matchmaking shenanigans—a grandchild being her sole focus.

All these characters come together in a story of love and friendship. It shows that love and family can transcend time.

Past and present collide. A heart-warming tale of Rose & Jacob and Mack & Dean. It's like reading a historical romance and a contemporary romance in one book. An enjoyable read, since this was re-edited by the author, but not as good as her latest books hence the 3 star rating.

Fantastic holiday romance

Mack rents Rose Cottage for the summer with her 6 yr old nephew Lucas and soon befriends Thomas the elderly owner and neighbour who takes a liking to Lucas having no grandchildren of his own. Mack comes across a diary and reads a love story between Rose who is Thomas's sister and Jacob. She phones a family member to find out more and soon meets another guest staying next door who is very easy on the eye and it's all to do with a certain diary. Could not put this book down and be sure to have tissues handy. I'm an avid reader but this story stayed with me long after the last page was turned. I was completely engrossed in this novel. Thankyou Rona Jameson. Brilliant

Sometimes we read a book that while predictable, it still is a 4 star read. This is one of those books!

I really enjoyed every character in this book. I really don't want to give too much away tho. They will either make you swoon, laugh or feel for them! I loved rose and Jacob from the start till their end!

The plot was super cute and this book will give you all the feels. I laughed and teared up with such happy tears that I couldn't contain them.

The plot is a little different but at the same time, it was a perfect duel love story. We look the future and we get the past with a different couple.

Love makes the world go round and while reading this book it made me realize that try love will conquer all, Good and bad! Read this book if you're looking for a cute sweet read that will give you the feels.

This is an unusual love story. While on vacation with her young nephew, Mack discovers an old diary on top of the kitchen cabinet. It is the story of a young girl who fell in love. Mack becomes engrossed in Rose's story and when a handsome young man moves into the cabin next to hers, she begins to feel many of the same emotions that Rose had felt for Jacob. Mack becomes so obsessed by the story, that she needs to know more about what happened to the people involved.

I loved the story, the characters and the settings. I had partially figured out the ending but needed to make sure.

Loved It

What an amazing love story of not one but two couples, Rose and Jacob started it all back in 1947 to now when Mack found Rose's diary and wanting Jacob to know that Rose loved him - to Dean coming to investigate why someone wanted to talk with his grandfather. You won't be sorry you've read this book.
