Freckle Juice Nicky has freckles -- they cover his face, his ears, and the whole back of his neck. Sitting behind him in class, Andrew once counted eighty-six of them, and that was just a start! If Andrew had freckles like Nicky, his mother would never know if his neck was dirty.
One day after school, Andrew works up enough courage to ask Nicky where he got his freckles. When know-it-all Sharon overhears, she offers Andrew her secret freckle juice recipe -- for fifty cents. It's a lot of money, but Andrew is desperate. At home he carefully mixes the strange combination of ingredients. Then the unexpected happens...
The One in the Middle is the Green Kangaroo Lately second-grader Freddy Dissel has that left-out kind of feeling. Life can be lonely when you're the middle kid in the family and you feel like "the peanut butter part of a sandwich," squeezed between an older brother and a little sister. But now for the first time it's Freddy's chance to show everyone how special he is and, most of a all, prove it to himself!
Judy Blume spent her childhood in Elizabeth, New Jersey, making up stories inside her head. She has spent her adult years in many places doing the same thing, only now she writes her stories down on paper. Adults as well as children will recognize such Blume titles as: Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret; Blubber; Just as Long as We're Together; and the five book series about the irrepressible Fudge. She has also written three novels for adults, Summer Sisters; Smart Women; and Wifey, all of them New York Times bestsellers. More than 80 million copies of her books have been sold, and her work has been translated into thirty-one languages. She receives thousands of letters a year from readers of all ages who share their feelings and concerns with her. Judy received a B.S. in education from New York University in 1961, which named her a Distinguished Alumna in 1996, the same year the American Library Association honored her with the Margaret A. Edwards Award for Lifetime Achievement. Other recognitions include the Library of Congress Living Legends Award and the 2004 National Book Foundation's Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters. She is the founder and trustee of The Kids Fund, a charitable and educational foundation. She serves on the boards of the Author's Guild; the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators; the Key West Literary Seminar; and the National Coalition Against Censorship. Judy is a longtime advocate of intellectual freedom. Finding herself at the center of an organized book banning campaign in the 1980's she began to reach out to other writers, as well as teachers and librarians, who were under fire. Since then, she has worked tirelessly with the National Coalition Against Censorship to protect the freedom to read. She is the editor of Places I Never Meant To Be, Original Stories by Censored Writers. Judy has completed a series of four chapter books -- The Pain & the Great One -- illustrated by New Yorker cartoonist James Stevenson. She has co-written and produced a film adaptation of her book Tiger Eyes, and is currently writing a new novel. Judy and her husband George Cooper live on islands up and down the east coast. They have three grown children and one grandchild.
8 year old enjoyed this until he realized the kids were in 2nd grade. (He’s in 3rd, therefore the kids in the book were babies) p.s. we only listened to freckle juice
What a cute throwback! I loved this book as a child. And while my granddaughter insisted on me reading it to her, she was not quite old enough, and it did not keep her interest; it kept mine, and I finished the book. I'll pick it up again when she's older. What a great book this is. I just love Judy Blume books.

I think he is really crazy. This book make me angry. I have some freckle and that is make me annoying. sometimes, because of freckle, if I don't have some freckle, I look more nice. Sometimes I think like this. But he want to have it??? WHY????
HEY! ANDREW, PLEASE, NO. JUST PULL OUT MY FRECKLE AND PUT ON YOUR FACE!
This book is about a young boy named Andrew Marcus who is fascinated by Nicky Lane freckles. Nicky sits right in front of him in Miss Kelly class. Andrew is so fascinated by Nicky freckles that he sometimes counts the freckles on the back of his neck. He even loses focus in class because of Nicky’s so Miss Kelly has redirect his focus. Later, in class Andrew asked Nicky how did he get his freckles and Nicky simply told him “You get born with them”. Miss Kelly ask the class to line up and the one person he does not like is at the front of the line with him, Sharon. Sharon was listening to Nicky and Andrew conversation the whole time. Sharon told Andrew she knew how to get freckles but it was going to cost him fifty cents to retrieve the secret recipe. Andrew had to think about that because fifty cents is a lot of money. That night he had trouble sleeping. He didn’t like the idea of paying Sharon but he wanted freckles.
nicky has alot of freckles all over his face and neck. he never liked his freckles and everyone thought his neck was dirty because of them. But andrew in nickys class had always wanted freckles! once he even tried to count all the freckles on nicky neck! so he pays sharon in this class, 50 cents to find out why nicky has freckles, and so may of them too! so sharon gives him this ingrediant to a mix which will make his freckles disapear! until after he mixes the potion he relizes he might be getting more than he asked for...
It was a quick read and cute story. I can't wait for my daughter to read it so we can discuss it. This story is good for a kid who want to move up to young readers from chapter books. I like the way the teacher handled the situation by letting both students know they are great the way there are. One with freckles and one with out.
I give Freckle Juice 3 stars and The One in the Middle is the Green Kangaroo 4 stars. Both are short books, but I enjoyed The One in the Middle is the Green Kangaroo more because it's about a boy who's looking for his own special place besides being the middle child.
Freddy Dissel wants to feel important like his older brother and younger sister, so he (a second grader) volunteers for the fifth grade play. Freddy finds his own way to shine as the play's green kangaroo.

When Andrew wants freckles there is a answer but for a price. But when he gets more than he pays for things go wrong he Needs to find a solution. Can he? Find out by reading this book.
We listened to these two books in the van today. My kids seemed to like them, especially the 4 year old and 7 year old. (Though the 7 year old said that The Pain and The Great One book was better. I guess they could be Judy Blume fans?)
