A scientist is murdered a mile beneath the earth, his secret laboratory exposed. A formula capable of forcing a shift of power among the world's largest nations is missing and its rightful owner wants it back. After staying hidden for months, Jackson Quick is pulled back into the darkness he despises. Forced to face his demons and align himself with the very people who betrayed him, he agrees to hunt for the formula. Racing against time and an evil black-market czar, Quick crosses the globe in search of a mathematical equation so valuable that nations and terrorists will pay whatever the cost to control it. From the scientist's lab in South Dakota, to London, Chernobyl, Ukraine, and Heidelberg, Germany, Quick uses his guile and good luck to outwit the competition at every turn. Or so he thinks. In the end, is his freedom worth the price he'll pay to earn it? Or is he better off letting the formula fall where it may.
Jackson Quick is trying to enjoy his retirement from the dangerous life he does so well. Sir Spencer Thomas appears and coerces him into finding a scientist studying neutrinos - tiny particles emitted from the sun capable of travelling through any mass unimpeded. It's the use he has discovered for the tiny particles that has every major government and low class bad guys in a frenzy trying to get the scientist's formula before anyone else. Smart though, the scientist has broken his formula into pieces and hidden them around the world. Jackson's job? Find all the pieces before anyone else and find a way to make them (and him) disappear.
With the appearance of Jackson Quick comes an army of ex-operators, top class criminals who want it, whatever it is. Every page is covered with the blood of bad guys and not a little of Quick's. Friends help him, friends turn against him. Life for Jackson is a little touch and go but he'll come through all right - there's another book in the trilogy!
Great characters, terrific storyline told by a master storyteller makes a terrific Jackson Quick adventure! This is a great read!
Jackson Quick has stayed hidden or evading trouble for several months since his former boss, the governor of the state of Texas, was sent to jail. Now, those who betrayed him need his help in finding a stolen process for directing neutrinos. Will this be his undoing or his salvation?
Abrahams second novel in A Jackson Quick Adventure, Allegiance Burned, is a fast-paced political thriller on an international scale. A passionate, attractive CEO, a scavenger hunt across the globe, and murder at every turn. What more could you ask for in a book?
My favorite in this trilogy, I could not put it down. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
The story is good. The characters are good too. There’s a lot of action and the plot twists and turns like a boa constrictor on a tree branch. I like the way Jackson and Bella came together in the end. I was rooting for them. Jackson not figuring out that he had a tracker in his body wasn’t hard to figure out. I don’t know why he didn’t. Anyway, I’ve got book 3 and I’m going to start it. Lilo being alive and gunning for Jackson is a surprise but I’m sure it will make the next book very interesting!
Part two kept me on the roller coaster ride known as Jackson Quick. Looking forward to reading the final book in the series for all of the ends to be tied up.
I had to go back and look up what I said about the first book in this series because I didn’t want to repeat myself (unless it was warranted). I surprisingly didn’t compare Quick to any of the “typical” thriller characters that I’ve encountered. He isn’t an elite trained solider with amnesia like Bourne, but he has a special way of getting out of any situation and learning on his feet. He’s this calm and calculating guy one second and running for his life the next. It’s an interesting and fascinating character to read and follow along.
In Allegiance: Burned, Abrahams turns the action up to 11, while also adding in jet-setting to multiple different places and seemingly every place Quick goes, he’s one step behind. I loved the different situations and the way that Quick handled each one differently. Abrahams has a way of writing action scenes so they feel like they’re playing out in real time and you’re either there with Quick or right there watching over his shoulder. It’s a great way to read these scenes and I’m glad he’s able to bring the reader into the action.
As I mentioned in my review of Allegiance, Abrahams has this way of writing things that are either real and he just adds a bit to them or they are so close to being real that they feel like they could happen tomorrow. That’s even true with his post-apocalypse and apocalypse books. They all have this terrifying “this could happen” vibe to them and I love it. I didn’t catch the comparison to Crichton in the summary until right now, but that’s exactly what I why I think I love these books and what I was talking about with the “this could happen” feeling. That’s how Crichton’s books made me feel as I finished them, even the science behind Jurassic Park was realistic and WAY ahead of its time. Abrahams has the same chops and I love it.
Overall, from the great narration by Jay Snyder, to the excellent writing and pacing of Abrahams, Allegiance: Burned is easily one of the best thriller/action novels I’ve read in a long time and I can’t wait to see what happens in the next one.
An excellent companion to the introductory book of Jackson Quick, 'Allegiance'. In this second book, Quick's life continues with secrets, preparedness, and assassins around every corner. Sir Thomas again enlists Quick's help with the teasing promise of safety....after completion. After all, how hard could it be to assist a CEO of an energy corporation?
Once again, the pace of this book is ridiculously amazing! Mr. Abrahams' writing is engrossing, seamless, and all-encompassing. The teasing flashbacks of Quick's life with his parents only add to the form and definition of this young man....
The reader is given brief moments to catch a breath before the action and intrigue plunge back into chaos. This is pure adrenaline compressed into words! An unbelievably complex and entertaining read. Extremely well done and highly recommended!
Jackson is on the run. His enemies want revenge, his death. His survival skills are honed to a fine edge. He joins forces with a female CEO named Bella. Her father was murdered by his former employer, the governor of Texas. Jackson helped put him in prison. Know there's a price on Jackson's head. If he works with Bella , he is promised a safe haven. But he has been betrayed again. Non stop clandestine action. A covert thriller extraordinaire!
Great 2nd book in the series. Lot of twists, turns and surprises. Jackson Quick and Bella globetrotting to figure out and find pieces and parts to a puzzle, surviving trials and tests. Cannot wait to read book three.
