"I want my mommy!" is this hesitant little girl's response to her first day at nursery school. But after she gets involved with glue-y projects, singing and dancing, painting, game playing and meeting new friends, she gradually changes her mind about nursery school. Children (and parents!) who are anxious about the transition to daycare or preschool will find this book both spirited and comforting. The clever front and back jacket illustrations hint at the happy ending and the interior art is playful and bursting with color.
Really liked this one. It’s about the first day of school and at first the mom is dragging the kid to school but she doesn’t want to stay: “I want my mommy!” But then there’s things to do but she doesn’t want to do them and so it goes “I want my…” and she gets distracted by more things but she doesn’t want to do any of them “I want….” I love how the refrain gets shorter each time until she realizes she likes nursery school and on the back cover it shows the girl pulling her mom along to school. Great first day of school book with feelings of hesitation and the written form made me feel even more like it was like a kid, getting distracted and gradually becoming more comfortable.
Literally PERFECT for the child starting preschool. This author has a great understanding of the psychology of 2 and 3 year olds. She goes through the thoughts in a little girl's head, as she doesn't want to be at preschool because she wants her mommy, and then she starts having so much fun that she forgets, and then suddenly she doesn't want to go home. We read it so many times, per my daughter's request, that she would recite in the weeks before school started and once school started, she would laugh at the part where the girl wants her mommy. Charming and perfect if your kiddo is starting school.
An unnamed girl goes to nursery school for the first time. What starts off as a scary venture, soon turns into fun that she can't wait to get back to. Good story partnered with mediocre illustrations.
