Cherrie Mahon of River Valley Doodles "This book wonderfully covers the whole world of the very popular dogs, Goldendoodles (Golden Retrievers x Poodle). It covers not just the basics of the breed, but also reviews various generations and specific care to the breed (such as coat care). There are tips for training and a "what to look for" while puppy shopping. There are several books out there on the market about Goldendoodles, but this one has contributions from several Goldendoodle breeders.
This book was very informational and a great beginners guide to owning a Goldendoodle. There is a plethora of great information in this book that really gets the gears turning and helps to look at these pupperinos in the correct way. Would have been 5 Stars but I didn’t care for some of the blatant favorable viewpoints that, in a couple places, seemed to result in less factual information being provided on the alternate viewpoint. Overall a great book that I will reread a couple more times. 100% recommend.
Interesting book! I had bought this when I was convinced that I was getting a Goldendoodle, but even though I’ve probably settled on a different breed, this book gave a lot of general helpful tips
Based on what I knew about Goldendoodles before reading this book (zero), it was very helpful! The author covered all kinds of specifics about the breed as well as just general good ideas for training and pet care. It was also easy to read and had some adorable pictures. Now, just seven more books about dogs to go.
Finally finished my first book of 2019, and it's a book to help me prepare for the new Goldendoodle puppy we are getting next week! (I would rate it 3.5 stars if half stars were available; since they aren't, I rounded up to 4). I haven't been reading as much this year, sadly (though we are only a couple weeks in, so I have time to get back on track), but this was a good book for me to start with, since practically all I've thought for about the past several weeks is our new puppy. I found this book quite helpful, though I should add that I have never had a puppy. We have always adopted dogs that were at least a year old and already trained...so I chose this book based on knowing very little about what to expect when he comes home with us, and wanting to bone up on what I need to do to prepare. If you already know how to house train and crate train a dog, then this book would mostly be unhelpful for you. And honestly, there was not as much info in those sections as I would have liked. That said, I can find most things online, I just like to read an actual book to prepare. There was some info that is exclusive to Goldendoodles, and was informative, but most of it would be applicable to any new puppy coming home. Helpful enough and I'm glad I read it, but not quite as helpful as I'd have liked.
This is a very basic book, probably suited best to the first-time dog owner. I've had many dogs, but this was my first Goldendoodle. The information here could probably be applicable to any dog and the focus is mostly on the puppy stage. I found some of the information to be highly inaccurate or outdated (he listed prices for grooming that are about 1/4 of what I pay). The information on the personality of the Goldendoodle was interesting and spot-on, but I didn't really learn much new.
Quick read that was filled with great info on what to look for when adding a puppy to your family and then what to expect and how to care for the puppy through old age. This book is laid out in a way that will make a wonderful reference to grab and quick open to whatever topic I am wanting to find answers to at that time.
This book is very general and is good if you're getting any dog and need some pointers. It is barely specific to the behaviors and characteristics specific to a Goldendoodle. Will it work if you want to know basics for dog care?- Yes. It will not help you really know a Goldendoodle too specifically. I'm a dog trainer and was hoping for more.
I'm very grateful for this book. I'm planning on buying a goldendoodle puppy in a couple of months as a first time dog owner, and I learned so much from this book that I didn't know that I needed to know! I'm sure I'll be referencing it again in the future.
It was a book full of great information, especially for first-time Goldendoodle dog owners. It was well organized, an easy read and the interviews and glossary were very helpful.
At first I enjoyed this book and felt that I learned a lot of useful information from it... BUT THEN I went to the Vet and asked her about something I had read in Chapter 4, that dogs are carnivores and need to only eat animal products.
My Vet was shocked that I read that in a dog book because it’s so false. She said dogs need grains and can get nutrients from plants as well.
Now I’m questioning everything else I read in this book. Very disappointed.
