The cravings start immediately. They confuse and frighten her, but she cannot deny them.
As she starts remembering fragments from that night, she realizes more than just her life had been in danger--an unspeakable evil has tethered children to the inside of a trailer. Learning secret truths about her past, Madison is determined to track down the traveling carnival. Time is of the essence and sacrifices will have to made if she wants to save the stolen children.
Her new found strength and abilities make her a perfect fit for a nightbreed of deadly and unlikely heroes. If she joins The Nightbreed will she find answers to her mounting questions? More importantly, will she find purpose for the creature she’s become?
Phillip Tomasso III is the award-winning author of many novels, including Before the Sun Sets and Amazon Best Selling memoir, Nothing Good Happens After Midnight.
He lives in Rochester, NY with his 3 kids, works full-time as a Fire Dispatcher for 9-1-1, and is always hard at work on his next story!
I would like to thank Phillip Tomasso for offering an ARC of this book for an honest review.
First off, this book was amazing, from page one I could not put it down. I found that the writing was descriptive enough that I had no problems visualizing each scene. This book follows a teenage girl who one day wakes up in the hospital after a night at the fair with a mangled neck. She soon finds out that she is a vampire. The main character was really smart and easily likable, I have no problem connecting with her and I can't wait to hear more of her adventures.
I haven't read anything else by this author, although he does have other books that are about, I believe zombies. This book was written along with his son. The writing was beautiful, descriptive, and moved along at a fast paced. I can't wait to get my hands on the next on in this series and also looking forward to picking up other books by this author. This book is an amazing start to what is going to be an amazing series.
This fast paced vampire tale will sweep you up and carry you along from the beginning to the end. This take on an all familiar genre is unique. Story line and characters are well developed and I'm looking forward to reading the continuing story.
The Nightbreed Saga is a vampire fiction phenomenon sure to please readers of all ages. Young Blood is a heart pounding, blood curdling read guaranteed to keep your eyes glued to the pages until all hours of the night! Phillip Tomasso wrote this book with his son, Phillip Tomasso IV. Together their styles are incredibly complementary and they do an excellent job of portraying newborn vampires for what they really are - ever-changing bloodsucking beasts that battle their own humanity each and every day. Maddy is a 17 year old girl who struggles with every day life. Her parents are divorced and her mother’s boyfriend makes her stomach churn every time he’s near. She gets by with the help of her best friend since childhood, Neil, and her loving father who will do anything for her: including sacrifice his sleep and work odd hours. It’s not an easy life for Maddy and it’s about to become a lot more complicated when she’s viciously attacked one night. Now she’s thrown into a whole new world… the vampire world. How will she get by? Can she survive off animal blood - it’s not easy to resist human blood and with animal blood she will barely survive. I urge you to join Maddy on an unforgettable journey as she uncovers her hidden family secrets, the politics of the vampire world, and the ancient history of her vampire bloodline that leads all the way back to biblical times. Find out how she will balance the monstrosity of emotions her every-day life brings as well as her new life’s unknowns.
The Tomassos do a masterful job of balancing all the aspects of this outstanding step forward in vampire fiction. The character development is superb, offering you a new group of friends that you will fall in love with as well as some terrible villains you will hate forever. Not only do the Tomassos write great characters but the inter-personal relationships between the characters are so real and vivid. The book is extremely visual - I found myself picturing their vampire world around me flawlessly. I could nearly feel everything that was going on. This book is guaranteed to get your heart racing and your eyes wide. The plot line is intricate and kept my interest the entire way through - I wasn’t ready for it to end and let me assure you, the second book can’t come fast enough! One thing that really sets this book apart is all the vampire world intrigue - there are many clans and bloodlines of vampires and it seems they all want something a bit different. Maddy is entrusted with a huge family secret… one that not only puts her in danger, but puts her family and friends in peril as well. The story is refreshing, riveting, suspenseful, and will have you on the edge of your seat. There’s certainly no shortage of twists and turns of all extremes - ones that will forever change the fate of the characters, ones that will permanently affect the vampire world, and ones that are sure to leave your jaw on the floor!
It’s been a long wait, but there’s finally a new vampire book that’s a must read for Young-Adult and New-Adult readers, fans of the supernatural, and suspense and horror lovers alike. This book won’t disappoint - You’ll be hooked the whole way through and ready for book 2 by the shocking ending!
Now am not particularly drawn to Vampire books, but this book changed my mind. What the Tomasso's have done here was well beyond my expectation. I wish the story would keep on going to see what Madison would get herself into next. The story is action packed right from the beginning. The character development is quick and enough to allow the reader to connect with the main characters, particularly Madison and her father. I say again, that I'm not particularly drawn to Vampire novels and so I have't read any, That being said I know the stereotypical Vampire cliche's (Drinking blood, Garlic, Crosses, sunlight, etc.) What the Father & Son team have done hear is unexpected and phenomenal. You can toss your Vampire theories out the window and make room for the Tomasso's idea of what a Vampirism.
Neal,Kate and Madison go for a fun night out at a travelling carnival which turns out to be a night of terror for Madison. Madison is such a compelling character and her change to being a vampire really fills you with empathy. This is such an exciting book. I don't want to leave any spoilers, but as she learns and grows as a vampire she becomes involved in events that will change her and perhaps the world. Don't miss the start of this wonderful new series! Bravo Tomassos!
Vampires aren't usually my favorite read but I'm starting to get hooked on them more and more. Phillip Tomasso has been one of my favorite authors. I love his Vaccination series so naturally I had to check out Young Blood: Nightbreed. It may be a Young Adult book but I enjoyed it a lot. The vampires aren't mindless creatures, doing nothing but killing. This book has a great plot to it which will keep on to a great saga. I look forward to book 2.
Spending the evening at the carnival seemed like a fun idea but for Madison it was the night everything changed. She was found later that night with her throat torn apart. She woke up in the hospital with no memory of what happened. She feels hungry but not for food, she wants blood and controlling her hunger isn’t easy. Her memory starts coming back to her and she remembers the carnival they visited was run by vampires and they had children trapped in a trailer.
Madison soon learns that her family has a few secrets and she has a destiny that she has to fulfill whether she likes it or not. As one of the undead, Madison may be the only one strong enough to save the children and put an end to the vampires that took her life. She must also figure out how she can live as a vampire and keep her humanity.
Young Blood: The Nightbreed Saga by Phillip Tomasso is actually written by a father son team and I think you could best describe it as a coming of age vampire story. There are lots of vampire books out there but to me this sub genre never gets old because every author puts a fresh spin on an old idea. In Young Blood the character of Madison is your normal girl next door but by the end of the story she is a completely different person. You feel for her because she is just a high school girl who wanted to have a fun night with friends and then her world was torn apart. We also see that she comes from a broken home and she has several issues with her mom’s new boyfriend.
Madison is a character you can easily relate to because she has a lot of the problems that normal teenagers have. You care about this girl and you want to see her get a happy ending. I love how the character goes from a happy normal kid to a warrior and along the way she thinks to herself how she is going to keep her friends and protect the ones that she loves. Madison puts everyone’s needs before her own and despite her noble deeds nothing seems to work out for her. She is a tragic character but she never stops trying and I couldn’t stop reading because I had to see what would happen to her.
Despite liking the story I did have some issues with it. There is a spirit that accompanies Madison and we never find out a lot about him until the end. There is a lot going on in this book and I think it could have used another 100 pages to explain everything, but I think this was done on purpose. This is the first book in a series and it felt like the authors were just trying to lay down the groundwork for future stories. Also some of the action scenes needed to be a little better. With Madison being a new vampire she should have had more problems dealing with the older vampires in the carnival. That being said I found Young Blood to be an entertaining read that held my interest to the end and I’m looking forward to seeing more of Madison in future Nightbreed books.
I'm a devote Catholic Christian and when I began to read Young Blood, which begins with the betrayal of Judas, I didn't know where this book would take me.
Needless to say, I was brought back to the present time and, I was totally surprised with the vampire twist that the authors, Phillip Tomasso2, put into play. I've seen many movies and read many books over the years concerning Vamps, and Young Blood captured my full interest. I loved the heroine, Madison and her friend Neal. Madison does turn into a vampire,(not a spoiler, I hope) but a vampire of a different caliber. Valiant and to preserve and save life rather than claim it, except for...I can't say...You'll have to read the book!
I never like to give spoilers but the mention of Jesus and the last supper blew me away...Good One, Phillip!!
Young Blood: The Nightbreed Saga left me wanting...more...
I just finished this book by Philip Tomasso and it was an excellent read. I really loved the characters especially Madison and Neal. The story line was fantastic and I couldn't stop reading it until I finished, like in one day. If you enjoy vampire stories than this book is a must read. This is book one so I must find book two!
