Breaking Away #1

Finding Allie

Rate this book
Chase Halloway's father is the president of Atlas, the drug dealing motorcycle gang that terrorizes most of our desert town.

My stepfather turns out to be a rival drug dealer, and I'm pretty sure he killed my mom two years ago.

I'm not supposed to fall in love with Chase. He's not supposed to know I even exist.

But when he finds me, he can't let go.

And when I find myself in his arms?

I hold tight.

I have to.

Because if I don't, I might just die.

What. Did. I. Just. Read.
I'm disappointed but not surprised, most erotic romances are written almost like they were supposed to be fanfiction written by teenagers. This one included.

Everything here was... bad. Allie and Chase went from not knowing each other to falling in love in the span of not even a week.
Allie had so many flaws but something that really made me cringe was her line "Chase is so big. Such a man. I feel feminine and small, wanted and needed." 🤮

The only thing that saved that book was the last couple of scenes but it's not enough to attract me to finishing the series. Don't read this book if you don't want to waste your time because it's not worth it.

EDIT: I just read some reviews of the whole series and !!!! no just no... this is so wrong.

3.5 Protective Star’s
In this book we meet Allie; she is a little naive, a lot sweet. She is under her stepfather’s thumb.
And all she wants to do is move to L.A. to be with her sister and maybe pursue acting. Only her stepfather won’t let her, so she takes it upon herself to stash the little bit of tip money she gets, in a very unique place.

We then meet Chase, this hunky dunky has the swagger you hear about. Chase is under his father’s thumb as well his father wants him to take over the MC when its time. Only Chase has dreams too and his involve L.A. oddly enough. He sets his sites on Allie the moment he sees her. Between the chemistry and his protective instincts he wants Allie to be his.

I loved the rant Allie had about men poor girl is so confused she doesn’t know how to deal with all her feelings and the attention she is getting.
Oh dang poor Allie.. Freaking “OUCH” that wipe out had to have hurt. I cringed just listening to it!!
Chase and Allie together just works, he is sweet and crass and she is innocent and sweet. They just fit.

“Don’t worry Allie; I’ll protect you, always.”

Oh you cliff-hangers I shake my hand at you!! Lol

I am no stranger to this narrator; I like her work so this book is not different. 

Finding Allie is the first volume of this trilogy in Meli Raine's Breaking Away series. You're pulled in from the start, uncovering the background that has led Allie to her currently desolate and hopeless state of being. Having recently turned 18 and graduated from high school, Allie is working for her vicious and sinister stepfather, Jeff, at the bar he owns in their one-horse desert town. Allie believes that her mother's tragic death, two years earlier, wasn't the accident Allie's stepfather claims it to be, and she hasn't seen her beloved older sister, Marissa, since prior to her mom's death (when Marissa moved to L.A.). Allie's dream is to save up enough money, from the pittance Jeff pays her, to escape her current situation and join her sister in L.A. Then Allie unexpectedly meets Chase, when the motorcycle club he belongs to barges into her stepfather's bar and violence erupts and he protects her from harm. Even under those violent circumstances, Chase is the first person, since her mother and sister, who makes Allie feel safe. And similarly to Allie, Chase's ambition to become a motorcycle stuntman would require his desired break from his current lifestyle and move to L.A. Unfortunately, Chase and Allie's instant mutual attraction and desire to develop it is vehemently opposed by both stepfather Jeff and Chase's father, the MC president, Galt, enemies who know one another through shared illegal connections.

Although I'm not usually a fan of MC related stories, this book doesn't appear to get too heavily involved into the motorcycle club interplay of drugs, violence and other illegalities. It is primarily the story of the developing relationship between Allie and Chase, the damages caused to each as a result of their family circumstances, and the mystery behind the deaths of both of their mothers. It's a quick and easy read and there is a lot of really good descriptive writing that involves you into the story. I also liked that it isn't your typical romance storyline. I was a bit put off by the unrealistic speed by which Allie and Chase's deep connection and claims of being in love with one another was developed, but given that this is supposed to be a modern day Romeo and Juliet type of story, I guess I may be looking for something that does not follow that drift.

There is a cliffhanger ending, but I pretty much expected that as this is Volume 1 of a trilogy. I was more than sufficiently interested to read on and learn what occurs next. Fortunately, unlike many other trilogies I have read where you have to wait months for the release of the next volume, it appears that all 3 volumes will be released simultaneously, or in very close proximity of one another. Thank you for that, Meli! And thanks for the opportunity to read your ARC and provide a review of this book.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

I want to first say that this book has great potential. I loved the story idea... a modern day Romeo and Juliet... feuding families... love at first sight. However, to me, love at first sight needs to be written in a way that you feel that connection right from the start. I didn't feel it. It felt kind of fake. To me, it felt more like a girl looking for her way out and latching on to the first guy to show interest in her.

The character of Allie was definitely an innocent one... virgin... almost captive under her stepdad. She was almost irritably innocent to me. Chase was an experienced bad boy from the family rival. He is definitely alpha but almost seemed innocent in his own right. As much as I liked his tenderness with Allie, it almost didn't fit his character.

The dialog between the two main characters wasn't as developed as I had hoped. There was a lot of internal monolog which doesnt develop a good communication between the main characters. I am however anxious to see where the story goes. I feel that writing which makes you feel comes from experience and as a debut author... this was a good start. More depth to the characters and the story itself would have greatly improved my rating.

I would give this 3-3.5 stars.

Possible spoilers read at your own risk.

Finding Allie is the first book in the Breaking Away Series by Meli Raine. It is the story of 18 year old Allie who works in a bar owned by her stepfather, and son of biker Prez Chase Halloway. They have an almost instant attraction and both of their fathers attempt to keep them apart. At this point neither Chase nor Allie understand why their fathers are forcing them apart. It’s a case of forbidden love at its best. They both have dreams bigger than their current reality. Information is shared with Allie, information about her stepfather that has her wondering about her mother and her death two years earlier.

I felt like their instant attraction turned almost obsession was a little unbelievable. It went from first sight to I can’t stay away from you. But this is a book it can happen. I also feel like there is a lot of info about both of their moms that is unanswered and thus has me asking myself a lot of questions. I feel like I need more background info to understand, like I was missing an important piece of the puzzle. However I do believe some of this info was left out for a reason and is part of the plot in future books. Book one ends on a cliffhanger. You’re left with a bad feeling for Allies future that may explain why her stepfather was so against her leaving to join her sister in LA. Overall the book was a good read. It has me wanting to start book two to see if this motorcycle Romeo and Juliet story has a happy ending.

Awesome book, love it! Yes it does end in a cliff hanger but it's so worth it! It has adventure, action, romance, silliness and some darkness. It has twists and turns you weren't excepting, and some you were.
You get rowdy ruff sleazy bikers who do what and who they want. They start fights, probably kill people, break stuff and sale drugs. But not all the bikers are like that, one doesn't want that life. Chase wants to be a stunt driver, wants out of the MC, but that is unheard of. But he wants to make it possible cause he has a girl who he wants to save.
You have a girl who loses her mom, raised by a over protective step dad, who thinks he owns her. He is a total jerk, shady, controlling, mean, and dirty. She works the bar to save money to run away from him to her sister in LA. Allie is a sweet, quite girl who is naïve in a lot of ways. Till she meets Chase.
Then everything gets crazy!!! Fights, accidents, temper, secrets come out, there is murder, and some intimate moments. All leads to the MC and Chase's dad trying to break up the love birds, all because of what Jeff (stepdad) has planned for Allie.
So good, great story...you have to get it!! Won't be disappointed!

My Review:

Meli Raine’s Finding Allie is straddling the genres of YA and NA. This is my first Meli Raine read and I look forward to completing the series. She has a unique yet comfortable writing style that is highly descriptive. Her colorful depictions brought a smile to my lips and a vivid picture to my imagination. The story was a quick and easy read that held my interest and plucked at my curiosity. I am eager to start book #2 Chasing Allie next.

This is an exciting and fast paced book about finding love. A young woman of age meets a biker & it is a rough road from here. Step Dad doesn't help the situation either. I enjoyed the story very much. This story has a cliffhanger, which doesn't really bother me as it gives me something to look forward too. The material is original and refreshing and even has suspense added in.

This is my first read by the author, Meli Raine. I look forward to continuing on with this adventure. The narrator, Tanya Eby did a good job delivering this story with multiple voices and emotions are spot on.

I won this audiobook in a giveaway today. It sounded so good, I just had to listen to it right away!

Great book with intriguing characters and a thrilling plot. I've read Ms. Raine's books backwards! Didn't mean to but it just happened. Even though I did, it didn't affect my enjoyment since all of these books can be read as stand-alone. However, I suggest you start with this one because once you've read this one, you'll want to read the rest. Narrator does an excellent job. Happy reading and listening!

WOW!! Just plain old wow! Chase and Allie have explosive chemistry from the moment they meet! The author did am amazing job setting up this forbidden love story. I liken it to Romeo and and Juliet with Juliet's family being from Breaking Bad and Chase's from Sons of Anarchy. Fingers crossed Chase and Allie get their HEA, yes there is a cliffie at the end.

Nothing really happened.
I think this is a mistake a lot of authors make when they write a series - rather than one excellent book they spilt an idea into a trilogy and instead have three mediocre stories.

Finding Allie is beautifully raw, achingly real, and stunningly heartfelt story of two broken people who are longing for a deeper connection that will allow them to spread their wings and fly. I was completely captivated by this incredible journey, and I found that my heart is no longer my own. What a wonderfully exciting start to a promisingly brilliant journey of hope, love, and determination!
Allie can't wait to escape the live that she has been forced to stay trapped in. While her sister was able to walk away and begin living her dreams, Allie is held captive into a life that she never wanted. She longs to leave her current existence in favor of running after her dreams. Just as those wishes make their way from her heart to her head, in walks a man who will turn her entire world upside down and right side up. He is everything she shouldn't want, but she knows that he is exactly what she needs and wants. Chase isn't looking for a love that breathes life into him and gives him a driving determination that he has been looking for when he walks into a bar for a refreshing drink, but that's exactly what he gets. Allie not only takes him my surprise, but shows him exactly what he has been wanting for a very long time - unconditional acceptance, untainted love, and refreshing challenge. He protects her from a fight that breaks out and in the process finds out that he wants to protect her forever. Will he lose the one ray of sunshine in his life, or will he fight for his heart and his future?
Allie and Chase stole my heart, and I don’t want it back. They are from similar yet different worlds, and they are drawn to each other in a way that neither can explain nor want to fight. The more they get to know the other, they discover that they complement the other and cannot stop the intense pull to be together. Allie finds the missing piece to her heart, and Chase understands that Allie completes him in a way that he can’t explain and will not live without. Two characters that develop so exquisitely and pull at my heart like these two have are such a wonderful pleasure to read about. I can’t wait to read more of their deeply passionate and deceptively dangerous journey.
Meli Raine’s debut series is simply outstanding! I love the danger, the intrigue, the passion, and the feeling of something that seems so very real. This feels more like someone’s honest life story instead of just a made up work of fiction. Within this story I have found a rare honesty and a breathless love that has gripped my heart and will not let go.

Even though Allie suspected her stepfather Jeff had some involvement with the tragic death of her mum, she had no choice but to stick around since he was her legal guardian. Now that she has just turned 18 and graduated from high school recently, she is planning to make her move to get out of her stepfather's life and head to LA to find her older sister Marissa. But it seems that her stepfather knows about her plans as she finds herself being 'robbed' off the meagre allowance her stepfather had given for helping out at the bar.

Unexpectedly on one day that she was working at the bar, a group of men entered looking for her stepfather. They belonged to a motorcycle club and she couldn't take her eyes off this one guy who seemed to have some command. Things turned ugly and guns were pulled out. This guy instinctively came forward, shielded her and pulled her down to hide under the bar counter. Despite the violence that continued on, it seemed that moment was just her and this guy and his name is Chase.

Unfortunately, the attraction between Chase and Allie were strongly opposed by Jeff and Chase's father Galt who were enemies over illegal trading.

I have not read any books which are MC related and I was pleasantly surprised to have quite enjoyed reading this. Despite that Chase belonged to the MC, you can't help but fall in love with him. He has his own dreams of being a stuntman and he hates the involvement that he is in by default for being the son of the MC leader and he is adamant about not dealing with any of the illegal stuffs.

The story is pretty fast paced packed with action that will definitely keep you entertained without being too heavy with the dealings of illegal trading stuffs and MC related activities. Be aware that the story leaves you with a cliffhanger! And after reading this first part, I'm definitely interested enough to continue with the rest of the installment.

I was gifted an advance copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Finding Allie is the first book in a Trilogy by new Author Meli Raine. In the first book we begin the journey with Allie & Chase as they meet and begin to fall in love. But are they destined to be a modern day Romeo and Juliet? Or will they be able to overcome the odds and get their Happily Ever After?

Allie just turned 18 and is ready to move out from under her stepfathers controlling ways. Her mother died a few years ago and she has been living with her Stepfather and working at his bar since then. She wants to move to LA and live with her older sister. But will all that change when Chase walks into the bar? The instant attraction and feelings she has for him are confusing and making her second guess leaving. Or can they leave and go to LA, start a new life together?

Chase is a member of Atlas. A local Motorcycle Club. His dad is the leader and wants to hand the leadership over to Chase. Chase has other plans, he does not to be the leader. One day the MC goes into a local bar. The owner happens to be a rival of theirs, and he meets Allie. Everything changes for him at that moment. His father tells him to stay away, and so does Allie’s stepfather. But he can’t stop thinking about her. He does not care who her stepfather is, he just wants to be with her.

Allie and Chase have some obstacles to get over/around/past before they can think about that Happily Ever After. Come along on the Journey and see if they will be able to or if they will have the same tragic ending as Romeo and Juliet did. Allies stepfather has secrets he is keeping, could they be the root of why he is so controlling and wont let Allie leave? You will have to read the book to find out. This is a great first book to a series. I was left wanting more at the end and ready to start book two so I could see what happens next.

This was a good start to the Breaking Away Series By Meli Raine. Chase is the son of Galt The President of Atlas Motorcycle Club, he knows that his father and other club members do bad things and Chase really doesn't want to be a part of it but his father is training him to become the VP of the club. Allie lives with her stepfather Jeff and works in his bar, Allie doesn't get paid but she does make tips and she's hiding them so she can move to LA to be with her sister that moved there a few years earlier. Allie has no one, her mother died two years ago and she thinks her stepfather may have killed her, her best friend is leaving for college in a few weeks and then she will be totally alone. Until she meets Chase, it's instant chemistry between the two of them, Chase makes it his business to protect her when all hell breaks out in the bar, from that point on they desperately want to be together but both fathers (father/stepfather) are against it. Besides her stepfather has other plans for her so he needs to make sure Chase doesn't damage the goods......

Sounds very ominous doesn't it, well I'll tell you a secret, Poor Allie doesn't know any of this and although she doesn't like her stepfather much she NEVER thought he would do something like this.....

I'm off to read Chasing Allie to see what happens next.

I had the pleasure of reading a copy of this debut novel by Meli Raine. This is book 1 of 3 and it does end with a cliffhanger. I was struck by the descriptions of the characters and the way the writing made me feel. There are absolutely no errors to be found in the writing which just flows so smoothly, you feel as if you are there within the story itself. I love MC stories and this book has an MC involved peripherally. We get to know Allie, her stepfather, Jeff, a sister, Marissa, best friend, David and her newly discovered love interest, Chase. Allie is such an innocent, sweet, naïve young woman, caught up in the violence and chaos surrounding her. She was forced to stay with her stepfather after her Mom’s death and works very hard in his bar for next to nothing. She has no experience in life generally, and love specifically. She does have dreams, though, of leaving the small town she grew up in and moving to LA to live with her sister. Chase has his own dreams, and is draw to Allie. Their family differences do make this story almost like a modern day Romeo and Juliet. He is caught up in the MC that his Dad runs. Allie is stuck working at her Stepdad’s bar with no phone, car, money or any way to possibly escape the life she lives until she meets Chase. I would highly recommend this book for any romance readers who enjoy a very well written novel and a wonderfully enjoyable reading experience. I was given a copy of this book by the author for an honest review.

I was privileged to receive an ARC of this book from it's author, Meli Raine...thank you so very much for the opportunity to read it. Finding Allie is the first book in a three book series and what a great start to the series...we find Allie working in a bar with her stepfather who is way to overprotective for a stepfather! All Allie wants to do is continue to save enough money (she secretly hides in it a music box from her mother in the tampon machine) to get to LA to be with her sister... enter one day Chase a sexy, hot, handsome biker who is instantly drawn to Allie and she to him. This story has moments where you will shed a tear, chuckle, sigh and want to take a punch at someone...but most of all you want Allie's dream of getting away from her stepfather to come true..at least I did. There are secrets revealed...one that had me saying out loud oh my god he can't do that! This book does end with a cliff hanger so be pre-warned! I will not reveal any secrets because I do not want to spoil this for anyone who is going to read this series but I will say that Allie and Chase accept each other for who they are and their acceptance of each other is unconditional..as is their love...I look forward to reading more from Meli Raine as I do love a good MC love story with some mystery thrown in.

The Atlas motorcycle gang comes looking for my step father and it is in this moment, Chase Halloway finds me. My name is Allie and I live under the thumb of my stepfather who I think killed my mom two years ago. My stepfather who I just find out is a drug dealer and Chase's dad the president of the Atlas motorcycle gang are rivals and don't want Chase near me. I am not suppose to fall in love with Chase. He is not suppose to fall in love with me. But when he finds me, he has to have me.when I find myself near him I hold on to me with everything I have. We are a modern day Romeo and Juliet, I hope we don't die. But one moment with him is worth everything.

I love this book. It is a three book serial and I am hooked. Allie's step father is creepy and I don't trust him. Allie wants to get away from him but he makes it almost impossible to escape him and get to her sister in LA. Allie is so innocent sheltered girl and Chase is a hot, sexy motorcycle biker that has ALOT of experience. He wants Allie and his desire for her is so beyond hot! I can't wait to read what happens next when he Chasing Allie. This one is smoking hot, so go one click this one and enjoy! I gave it 5 out of 5 stars.

Allie and Chase meet when his Club comes into the bar owned by her stepfather, Jeff, and a fight breaks out between them and her stepfather who gets support from a few of his friends. Allie has been trying to save to escape to LA where she hopes to become an actress. She has just turned 18 and still seems very naive, especially in light of working at a bar. Chase is intrigued by Allie and goes out of his way to see her. Allie is virginal and innocent and a lot of things go over her head that I found hard not to question. The fact everyone knows she is "untouched" doesn't seem to penetrate her brain. She doesn't trust her step-dad and hides money in order to make her escape. The interactions between Chase and Allie were a little rushed at points and that doesn't help with the whole Romeo and Juliet vibe that seems to be what Meli Raine was after. It felt more like Allie was latching onto Chase as a means of escape and her brain seems to have short-circuited along with some common sense. The ending of the book should let Allie know that she is in trouble but I have some misgiving as to whether she will understand it all. Will be interesting to see where this goes.

Audible Escape. This individual title has since been combined into a box set, which is a better value than purchasing the titles individually. For Audible Escape members, they are only available individually. This ends on a cliffhanger & is part of a trilogy. At less than 4 hours, on it's own - it feels more like a novella/serial. 3rd person, but entirely from Allie's POV.

Finding Allie has a Romeo & Juliet / Cinderella feel to it. Allie is 18yo and just graduating from high school and very sheltered by her stepfather. Chase isn't much older and is in the local MC because his father is the President. Both want to get out of their small town and away from their families. While surrounded by violence and harsh circumstances, their love/relationship has an endearingly sweet quality to it.

Tanya Eby does a great job of voicing the innocent and somewhat lost Allie.

I'm looking forward to the next one.

Finding Allie is the first book in the Breaking Away serial series. This book was a super quick read for me. I liked the idea behind the story and think that it has a lot of potential. That being said, I do feel that the story was a little rushed at times. I wish we could have gotten to know the characters a little better.

I already really don't like Jeff. He just gives off a really bad vibe and is a total jerk to Allie. I like the whole romeo and Juliet vibe with Chase and Allie. They do share an insta-love connection. However, they do have really great chemistry and the tension between the two of them.....

Overall, I think that this story is off to a good start. I think it has a lot of potential. The groundwork has been laid and I'm definitely intrigued by where this story will go.

This was sent to me by the author for an honest review. So far this series has good potential. Chase sounds like a dreamy guy and I like the chemistry between him and Allie. Allie does seem to be on the naïve side but I understand that comes from living a sheltered life. From the start Jeff sounds like a shady character but I'm glad that he never did anything perverted to Allie. However, the reason why he never did is a nice twist and I'm looking forward to reading more in this series. The only thing I wish is that the story included Chase's pov

I had started with the Coming Home series, book 2 of which introdruces you to Allie and Chase from this Breaking Away series.  So I finished book 2 of Coming Home and went straight to this.  I really wish I started with this trilogy first.  I'm currently on the 3rd book.  I've been so gripped I've went straight to the next book and then the next book (I normally like to read something completely different in between so I can keep the stories for each book seperate in my head) but I just had to keep going.  Love Meli Raine and will have to read all her other series now.
