"Stealth" narra la storia di Rosealma detta "Squish", e della sua vita precedente all'incontro con Boss e con l'Alleanza dei Nove Pianeti. In un tour de force narrativo, basato sul susseguirsi di flashback tra vari momenti del passato e del presente di Squish, Kristine Kathryn Rusch ci mostra il background in cui si svolge questo ciclo affascinante, già entrato nel cuore dei lettori italiani: l'Accademia dove si forgiano le migliori menti dell'Impero Terrestre, le stazioni orbitanti dove gli scienziati svolgono pericolosi esperimenti sulla tecnologia dell'occultamento, i rapporti di forza tra il potente Impero e l'Alleanza dei liberi pianeti che si oppone alla sua dittatura. Nata il 4 giugno del 1960 a Oneonta (New York, USA), Kristine Kathryn Rusch ha raggiunto il successo come editor di "Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction", che ha guidato per sei anni, dal 1991 al 1997, vincendo anche un premio Hugo come miglior editor professionale. In seguito ha abbandonato l'editing per concentrarsi sulla produzione narrativa, diventando in breve una delle scrittrici di punta del mercato americano. Dotata di grandi doti narrative, la Rusch si è dimostrata autrice competente e prolifica in numerosi campi, passando con disinvoltura dalla fantascienza hard al romance, fino ai romanzi gialli. Nel campo prettamente fantascientifico si è fatta notare per i suoi magnifici racconti e romanzi brevi, come "Millennium Babies" (premio Hugo 2001 come miglior novelette), "Recovering Apollo 8 "("Il recupero dell'Apollo 8", Odissea Delos Books), "The Retrieval Artist "(2002, vincitore del premio Endeavour; questo romanzo breve sarà presto pubblicato in questa collana), e "Echea", del 1999, finalista a tutti i maggiori premi del settore, dallo Hugo al Nebula, allo Sturgeon e al Locus. Story within Boneyards

The Diving Universe Reviewed.
I am not doing separate reviews, just some general remarks--this review will appear on all the Diving books starting with Stealth. I read from Stealth forward in the series through Squishy's Teams--still waiting for (and looking forward to) Chase.
So, these are very pleasant engaging reads. The Diving universe is coherent, well-imagined, and intriguing. For serious fans (what I used to call 'fan-boys', but that's too gendered) of Rusch, I recommend reading them all. For less committed readers, it is probably enough to just read the full-length novels and skip the novellas. There is some overlap between the novels and the novellas, but it is often fascinating, as when one gets to see the same incident from two different directions. But the novellas are often short and padded out to printable (sellable) length with previews or other stuff. The novels carry the whole narrative and major characters forward on their own. The novellas can be outtakes of the novels, or fun original stuff.
This is not my usual space opera. The orbital mechanics sometimes don't make sense and so on, but the writing and editing are very good.

We get some more details on stealth tech and were introduced to Squishy, who has a vendetta out against it. This one doesn't have as much anti caption and anxiety that the others have had but it contains enough to hold any of Rusch's Diving fans interest to the end.
