I have been dipping in and out of this book for almost 2 years, usually when I am doing beta reads on the computer but want a physical book to have about just in case. This is quite informative and I learnt several new pieces of information, particularly about some of the sites more local to me. This is overall quite a comprehensive guide to the castles of Britain, Wales and Scotland. That being said the book is now showing its age and some of the detail is very dated - for example several of the castles listed are now no longer in private hands but were when this was published (in 1976). It’s mostly black and white photos as well which is a shame with just a few colour plates at sporadic intervals. It’s nice to dip in and out of but not something that could be read cover to cover and probably not anything I’d be included to read again. 3 stars.
