Bristol Island #2

Inappropriate

Rate this book
Cohen is a man apart on Bristol Island—an outcast loved by all but separated by his position within the community. Dylan is the newest resident in town, but she arrives with a dark secret and a desire to keep it buried.

But when burning attraction is thrown into the mix, his job and her secrets are quickly forgotten—that is until one impetuous decision renders a relationship off-limits, unethical, and utterly inappropriate.

Living next door to one another on the island’s isolated peninsula guarantees their paths will cross time and time again. With fate tempting Cohen to ignore his conscience and, for the first time in his life, gamble with the rules, will he risk everything for Dylan?

And what happens when Dylan’s past suddenly catches up to her? Will she find the strength to bare her soul to him? Or will she let her secrets take them both down?

Sometimes the inappropriate relationship is the most appropriate of them all.

★★★★! Inappropriate (stand-alone) book 2 of 3. Budding affair with neighbor doctor becomes inappropriate after pelvic exam!

“The woman he couldn’t ethically fuck, he wanted to fuck six ways to Sunday without a single socially acceptable barrier between them.”

Books in Bristol Island series are Stand-alones, but most enjoyed if read in order:
Book 1: The Fight For Us
Book 2: Innappropriate
Book 3: Untitled

Inappropriate is the stand-alone book 2 is the Bristol Island series. It opens up to erotic romance writer Dylan Corbett meeting her neighbor doctor Cohen Jessup, Co for the first time. They are instantly smitten with each other we see the beginning of a romance. That is until Dylan is in need of a pelvic exam and Co is the only doctor on the island.

Story goes on to follow them in the aftermath of that doctor visit as they fight their attraction and at times fail miserably offering some off-the-charts steam. It’s complicated by policies, gossip and public opinion, but more importantly Co and Dylan’s own fears and beliefs about an inappropriate affair forcing them to look within and deal with guarded secrets from their past…

photo ina H BS by sb_zpskoynhhio.gif

Seven words to describe doctor Cohen Jessup, Co: Charming, accommodating, respectful, caring, commanding, conflicted and loyal.

photo ina he BS by sb_zpsct5izhcm.gif

Six words to describe Dylan Corbett: Secretive, successful, reflective, naïve, closed off and private.

Inappropriate, told from dual POVs has a great mixture of steam, romance, humor, drama and suspense. Story is well written, but at times moved a little too slow and felt long-winded. As for ending it left Co and Dylan in a wonderful place. Up next is the stand-alone book 3 in the Bristol Island series.

Sizzling sex scenes! Hilarious situations! Heart-warming plot! Entertaining story-telling!

I’ve read quite a few books by this author, and I have to say that this is one of my favorites. I loved the element of forbidden romance and the way the story made me feel. As always, Finn's writing is exceptional, her characters are well developed and the story is equal parts steamy, emotional and beautiful.

Dylan Corbett is a writer of romance. She decides to move to Bristol Island for a fresh start. Fresh scenery. She wants a place she can write in peace, a little on the secluded side. Dylan has one neighbor and he happens to be a very attractive man named Cohen Jessup, who Dylan later finds out (in a very uncomfortable manner) is Dr. Cohen Jessup.

 photo 701eb352-509f-4641-af57-50b954e5180a_zpsc3f0e007.jpg

Cohen and Dylan are immediately attracted to one another. That is obvious. But now that Cohen has seen Dylan as a patient, in a more invasive way, it makes things complicated for them. Ethically, it makes it inappropriate for them to be anything other than friends. Keeping things just friends is extremely difficult. Especially for Cohen. He’s insanely attracted to Dylan and feels like he can do nothing about it.
He wanted to feel all of her- every inch. The woman he couldn’t ethically fuck, he wanted to fuck six ways to Sunday without a single socially acceptable barrier between them.

With Cohen’s job, Dylan’s job, and Dylan’s secret past that she’s keeping secret for a very good reason, things seem impossible for these two. Wanting something, well, someone you can’t have is a terrible feeling. It hurts your heart.

 photo 46741bfe-3374-417c-93c7-3d94ffdc166c_zps7400c7d6.jpg

Cohen and Dylan’s journey was not easy. Their fight to decide if they can risk to be together isn’t an easy choice for either of them. Elizabeth Finn makes her characters work for it. They never have an easy path, and I like that. I like their their relationship isn't quick and easy. It takes work, it takes time, it's realistic and raw. It’s apparent that no matter how hard they try to stay away from one another, no matter how many lines they try not to cross, they are drawn to one another. They can’t stay away.
“I don’t know how to stop wanting you.”

 photo dbc52d72-8986-4494-a2c6-dc97b59a656d_zpsb95017a1.jpg

Dylan was a fantastic heroine. She was real. She had mistakes in her past she wasn’t proud of, but she was strong. Cohen really had a struggle when it came to his job and how he felt about this forbidden relationship, but he is able to see what’s really important. Cohen and Dylan were great together. Their chemistry was off the charts high. The sex scenes were off the charts hot, but I had no doubt they would be.

Inappropriate is a great addition to the Bristol Island series. It can be read as a stand alone, but meeting Joss and Isaiah in book one isn’t a bad idea. I can’t wait for this series to continue, and I very much hope that the next book is about Cohen’s brother Caleb. Any time he was around, he stole the show.

A captivating read from start to finish, Inappropriate is a book I highly recommend.

“It hurts to want something so much that you can’t have.”

When you pick a book from this author you know what to expect – angst, which it’s done very well every damn time and well written hot steamy sex scenes that I guarantee will leave you hot and bothered. Elizabeth Finn delivered here an enjoyable read, a raw, lovely romance, a story that will make you feel. “Inappropriate” is the second installment in “Bristol Island” series and it can be read as a standalone.

“Our past only has the power we give it...”

Dylan Corbett is the new resident on Bristol Island. She’s an erotic romance writer and all she needs is some peace and quiet. She bought a small cabin and moved on the peninsula to get out of her current writer’s block and also to forget about her troubling past. No one here on Bristol Island knows about her past, her secret and she wants everything to stay that way.

“This is Bristol Island. This is my world. And this is all I have. My life is here, my career.”

Cohen Jessup is the only doctor on Bristol Island. Cohen is attracted with Dylan, who’s his new neighbor from the moment he met her. She’s sweet and funny and he would love taking her out, but everything changes when Dylan shows up a few days later for an appointment at the clinic where Cohen works. Getting involved with a patient is totally inappropriate, so there’s only two options for them – forget about the feelings they have for each other and stay friends or forget about this inappropriate aspect of their relationship and take a risk and give in to temptation.

“Have you ever made a quick impetuous decision, not really thinking of the consequences? You just.... say yes when you should have said no.”

I enjoyed this one, but IMO it wasn’t as good as the first installment in the series. Something was missing, but I can’t quite put my finger on it. Like I mentioned earlier, the story was full of angst and also drama, but fortunately it wasn’t overwhelming. What I enjoyed the most here was the chemistry, connection between the two main characters. It was fantastically done and so palpable. I loved Dylan and Cohen together and their relationship as neighbors/friends and later as lovers. They were good for each other in every single way and I’m not saying this because they said it first, but because I truly felt it. It safe to say they completed each other perfectly. Also their sexual tension was really great done. Loved it!

Dylan and Cohen’s journey wasn’t an easy one. Both of them make mistakes, but eventually they learn how to properly communicate with each other, how to trust each other, how to fight for a future together. Needless to say their relationship wasn’t quick and also it wasn’t easy. Honestly I really sympathize with them. While Dylan struggles to trust another man and to be vulnerable again, Cohen struggles with his ethical dilemma.

“I’ve lost track of the reactions I have to you.” His fingers brushed along the hem, taunting her. “I don’t know how to stop wanting you.”

I liked Cohen’s character a lot. He was wonderful, well developed and charmed me from the very beginning. I’m not gonna lie, he was an a** at times, but I truly understood his point, so I wasn’t so bothered, especially since after he finds out about Dylan’s past he become ‘her everything’. I enjoyed his personality. He’s strong, commanding and even intimidating, but he’s also sweet, caring and protective. I loved his tenderness towards Dylan and the way he loved her and eventually accepted all of her.

“If we do this, I’m not going to be a doctor to you anymore.(…) I’m going to be a man and nothing more.”

While I enjoyed Cohen’s character, I can’t say the same thing about Dylan’s. I liked her enough, but I wasn’t impressed. She was kinda weak IMO. She only finds the strength to fight her past only when Cohen enters her life. I felt for her, I did, but come on...she lived a reclusive life for six years without fighting against the man who destroyed her life, without fighting for her career and her future. So Dylan felt a little flat IMO, maybe because she wasn’t my fav kind of heroine or/and maybe because I didn’t relate with her at all.

If you’re looking for something angsty, steamy with just the perfect amount of drama, this might be the perfect read for you.

Overall, a nice enjoyable read!

“You are the best mistake I could have ever made, and if ever there was a rule to be broken, it was the one that would have made us impossible.” He pulled back, focusing on her. “I...regret ...nothing.”

”It hurts to want something so much that you can't have.”

description

Romance writer Dylan Corbett is all settled into her Bristol Island cottage amongst the backdrop of a hard hitting winter. Dylan loves the idea of love but hasn’t been involved with anyone in several years.

”In truth, she didn’t’ fall at all, hadn’t for years. Her heart had numbed to them long ago, six years before to be exact. She loved the idea of them. But she didn’t love the reality of them.”

When her neighbor knocks on her door to introduce himself and welcome her to the island she finally has meet someone who is better than any character she has written. Cohen and Dylan share some off the charts attraction but all veers into awkward territory when she heads into the only doctor’s office in town to get a birth control prescription and an internal exam.

description

Cohen is a good guy and a fabulous doctor and so he deals with the fact that he can never pursue a relationship with Dylan because he’s her doctor. The attraction and sexual chemistry is off the charts and Cohen fights his ethics and his feelings for Dylan.

”The woman he couldn’t ethically fuck, he wanted to fuck six ways to Sunday without a single acceptable barrier between them.”

Once Cohen makes his decision to give into his attraction to Dylan their scenes were hot in only the way Elizabeth Finn can write a love scene.

Dylan is hiding from her past and guess who tries to destroy her reputation?

If you have read book one of this series then Randall messing up things will come as no surprise.

Cohen struggles with Dylan’s reveal and is in danger of losing his license and destroying his reputation. Can this couple survive Randall’s slander and being reviewed by Cohen’s board?

Overall, this story was on the long side but didn’t feel it in slightest. It flowed and was so well written that I couldn’t stop reading. What an clever storyline totally inappropriate Ms. Finn!

I know I'm going to get two things when I read an Elizabeth Finn book....

and

Oh....and how could I forget? An asshole hero you just can't help but love.

I can't say this was my favorite EF read, but I did enjoy it.

I guess I just didn't really buy the whole "inappropriate"ness of their relationship.

I must be the most unethical person on the planet but I didn't see anything all that wrong with Cohen and Dylan's relationship.

Dylan is an author hiding out on Bristol Island where she meets her sexy new doctor neighbor Cohen. One thing leads to another...and by another I mean a pelvic exam.

Now we have some back and forth between Cohen and Dylan for the first half of the book. A whole lot of "I want her, but I can't have hers". Eventually Cohen says good-bye to his morals

and sleeps with Dylan. But Dylan's hiding secrets about her past which leads to some more back and forth.

This book was long people. Too damn long honestly.

But what I can say is while there was a lot of drama and angst, which I normally hate. It wasn't juvenile drama and angst. It wasn't dragged out endlessly. It was resolved rather quickly.

And damn, despite Cohen's asshole reactions several times throughout the book, I couldn't help but love him in the end. Just one of EF's many talents.

"I was never a rule breaker. And I've never been a mistake maker. Until now....You are the best mistake I could have ever made, and if ever there was a rule to be broken, it was the one that would have made us impossible. I...regret....nothing."

You know what I really want???? Caleb to get a book! He totally stole the show in this one!!

It hurts to want something so much that you can't have.

Elizabeth Finn is one of those authors that I go into a book knowing I've got a journey ahead of me. Her plot lines are usually fairly true to life and full of angst. Honestly, she's the queen of angst for me. Not needless 'roll of the eyes' drama but the kind of angst that makes your heart clench because the tug of war between push and pull is all consuming. She hooked me with Unforgiven and has not disappointed me since...especially with Inappropriate.

Dylan
is a new resident on Bristol Island. She's an erotic romance writer and was drawn to the island's quiet peaceful sense of seclusion. She bought a tiny cabin on the peninsula and has one solitary neighbor...a handsome one at that.

Cohen Jessup was pleasantly surprised to realize his newest and only neighbor is a beautiful curvaceous woman. He stops by to introduce himself and is immediately comfortable with her. He can see them becoming fast friends...or more. Until Dylan shows up a few days later for an appointment. Ya see, Cohen is otherwise known as Dr Jessup, the only local doctor and Dylan has an appointment for birth control pills. This is highly inappropriate. With that prescription comes a full pelvic exam and Pap smear. Surely he can keep this professional. All hopes are dashed that this will be anything but platonic from here on out. His professional reputation is on the line...as well as his medical license. But this may be easier said than done...

 photo DFE29F7C-D914-4D11-BAE8-2C2AECA06911_zps0btalxw9.jpg

We can clearly see where the angst is going to take place within this storyline. It's so basic yet much deeper than the above conflict. Dylan and Cohen just clicked as friends, neighbors and the chemistry between them is palpable. Cohen was the greatest hero I've read in some time. He was so committed to his professionalism and reputation yet his never ending need for Dylan was a constant inner struggle. Something about this starched, professional man in a white lab coat talking all kinds of dirty talk while f$cking her over the bathroom vanity is panty melting. But a digress...

Couple that with the secrets she's clearly hiding behind...what made her run to this tiny remote island in the dead of winter. He knows she writes some of the hottest erotica out there yet hasn't had sex for six years. Six years! But Dylan is a closed book and his strength to resist her is weakening. What is she hiding?

 photo 66B149B0-CA4B-4832-A89D-9B811508997E_zpsxv0l5u6s.jpg

My heart broke for these two. The reader isn't told what happened to Dylan to cause her to live such a lonely isolated life...to live thru her book heroes versus finding love in real life. Cohen was such an ethical man yet was still a MAN, fighting the battle between what he's worked for years as a career versus finding love. Being the only doctor on this island is extremely isolating. Everyone is his patient. He's got to be on his best behavior at all times...

Fade Into You by Mazzy Star is the perfect theme for their love story...

 photo DB3A8AEE-EF02-471D-9A5A-C7B621FBE943_zpsjhvnlumz.jpg

We get to be reacquainted with Joss and Isaiah from book one, The Fight for Us. Unfortunately, we also get to see Randall Cunningham again...every book needs a douchebag. He gets a repeat performance here. Inappropriate is book two in the Bristol Island series but is a standalone. I'd like to put in my vote for Cohen's brother Caleb getting a book sometime. Loved their banter and I'd love to see him fall to his knees for a beautiful woman.

The only picky deduction of a half star was simply due to the length. Sometimes it dragged out a bit but I still absolutely devoured every bit of it!

I'd HIGHLY recommend this book for fans of a story that takes the reader on a realistic journey of conflict, angst, friendship, and love. Of deciding what is most important in life...career or love. I also can't miss the opportunity to once again commend Ms. Finn on writing some of the steamiest sex scenes ever. Her plot lines read like contemporary romance but her sex scenes blow any typical contemporary romance books out of the water! She takes it just a little (more than a little) farther to almost erotica and it makes the overall experience all consuming.

"You are the best mistake I could have ever made, and if ever there was a rule to be broken, it was the one that would have made us impossible."

As a side note, I think I really connected to this story because I too fell in love with my patient...22 years ago. It's a great love story to tell...❤️ Thank you, Ms. Finn for bringing all those feelings back to me.

He wanted to feel all of her- every inch. The woman he couldn't ethically fuck, he wanted to fuck six ways to Sunday without a single socially acceptable barrier between them.

There's one thing that you know for sure when you finish an Elizabeth Finn book; the woman does angst and she does it well. If you like borderline asshole heroes, vulnerable but yet strong in their own right heroines, and enough angst to leave you crying for your mama then this is definitely the author for you. Luckily she gives you just enough steam to dilute the angst, which makes for one fabulous mix.

Inappropriate is book two in the Bristol Island series, but it is easily read as a standalone. The characters from the previous book do make an appearance here, and you'll appreciate it that much more if you've read The Fight for Us, but you won't be lost if you haven't read it either.
It hurts to want something you can't have so much.

The small town of Bristol Island is the perfect place for Dylan Corbett to get out of her current writer's block and perhaps find the peace that she hasn't been able to in the past few years.
She wrote what she needed from the world, not what she had; she just happened to do it very convincingly, because one upon a time, she actually did have those things, until she found out she didn't.

She's an erotic romance writer and that's all you really know about her. You can clearly see that she's had a troubling past, but that's something that will not be fully revealed for quite a bit. The one thing that I really loved is the littler kernels of similarity between Dylan's books and Elizabeth Finn herself. It almost read like she cleverly wove in her own personality into Dylan in terms of what she writes, if that even makes sense. If you've read any of Finn's previous books, you'll see exactly what I mean.

Dylan meets her handsome new neighbor, Cohen, who also serves as the inspiration for the hero on the book she's currently trying to write. This is where the inappropriate factor also comes in, because not only is Cohen her neighbor, he's also the town's only doctor. And when Dylan has a pressing medical concern, she has no choice but to visit the local clinic and get the surprise of a life time.

This also had one of the most awkward and at the same time humorous situations I've ever read. I don't want to give anything away but I swear I found myself cringing the entire time I was reading it.

The sexual tension between Cohen and Dylan is incredibly potent. The 'inappropriateness' of their situation made for a long stretch of sexual tension.

But when these two finally give into the sizzling chemistry between them, let's just say fireworks go off.

While I loved the angst and the tension, there was also something missing for me. I can't even pinpoint exactly what it was but I just found myself growing bored with the story in certain places and skimming slightly. Maybe because it would go through segments of angst to a part where really nothing was happening? I'm really not sure. But there was just always something that kept this from being completely enthralling for me and demanding all my attention. I had no problems setting this book down and coming back to it later. I do love me a good asshole and Cohen certainly had his moments of it...2 VERY big ones. I wasn't sure if I wanted to jock punch him or lick him, but it all came together wonderfully.

Dylan was definitely a crier, but she also had a quiet sort of strength to her. While she's not my perfect heroine (I tend to be SUPER picky with this), I never had an issue with her bouts of vulnerability.
Cohen, there isn't a single moment when I'm with you that I'm not wholly and completely WITH you. If I say something, it's only for you. If I do something it's to you. The way I touch you is all about you. There is nothing else outside of us when I'm with you.

If you're a fan of this author, you'll definitely enjoy this book; angsty and sexy, two of my favorite things.

4 Inappropriate Stars,

Dylan is an erotic romance writer who’s running away from a past mistake. She decides to take some time off to re-inspire and chooses to secluded island of Bristol. When she gets there she immediately meets her neighbor and they are immediately attracted to each other. Only to find out the next day that he’s the only doctor in the island, and she his first patient off day, making anything between them inappropriate.
But when they are neighbors and keep bumping on each other, how long will they resist the temptation?

description

For some reason, Elizabeth Finn’s books always make me hooked from the first page.
She writes beautifully and her stories not only are steamy and romantic, they are also addictive. This book was no expectation. I still haven’t read the first one in the series, but I got to jump on that quickly.
If you’re in need of a steamy and romantic story, with the “forbidden” element, this book is a great choice.

description Rating: 4 Stars.
Characters Development: I really liked Dylan. Yes, she made a wrong decision in the past and now she has to live with it, but seriously… who didn’t? We all make mistakes, it’s a part of the human condition. She was sweet and caring and I really liked her. Cohen? Most of the time, I loved him. Especially towards the end. But I’m going to be honest here: he was the sole reason why I didn’t rate this book 5 stars. There was two particular moments when he was a seriously asshole and was very hurtful. He should have had to grovel way more and he didn’t. I didn’t like it!! Awesome supporting characters.

My Thoughts - Story
So, when I first finished this book, I only gave it 4 out of 5 stars but the more I thought about it and let the shock factor sink in – I have now decided to up the ante to 4.5.  Not just because I got used to the “Inappropriateness” of it, but because of that – it was original – it was unique and it was memorable.

What a strange, inappropriate but fascinating angle on a story line!

I still can’t stop thinking about what transpired between Dylan and Cohen – shit – this book really makes you think.

I absolutely loved this relationship…how they were immediately attracted to one another but one simple wrong decision makes going any further impossible.  How they decide to be friends but can’t stop the chemistry and the desire from overtaking their relationship. How the love they feel for each other is much more important than the past and anything else.

Ms. Finn does it time and time again, writing winners – making the reader feel what the characters do and the ability she has to develop her characters throughout the story is amazing! Never has she disappointed me in her story telling or her plots.

Re-Cap
Dylan is an erotica author who is running away from a mistake in her past. Cohen is her neighbor and the revered all American boy of the island.  These two instantly are attracted to one another but then Dylan makes a decision that can jeopardize Cohen’s career if they even so much as cross that friendship line.  Read how these two try their hardest to keep their relationship platonic and how secrets can come back and haunt them.

Let me first say that this story isn't perfect, but I still loved it. The angst almost made me throw my kindle. The title of this book is perfect for multiple reasons that unfold as you read this story.

This is a romance novel for adults that have been through some shit. That's one of the reasons I love this author's writing so much, (not to mention her incredibly realistic and kinky steam scenes), she has a way of tapping into the REAL like very few authors do. Cara McKenna is another author who writes similarly.

Dylan is an erotic romance author who makes one devastating decision six years ago that utterly destroys her entire life. She has to slowly rebuild herself, and she begins that process when she moves to the tiny town of Bristol.
Dylan didn’t fall for men easily. In truth, she didn’t fall at all, hadn’t for years. Her heart had numbed to them long ago, six years before to be exact. She loved the idea of them. But she didn’t love the reality them.
Cohen is her sexy neighbor.
For a man who was so strong, commanding, demanding, and even intimidating at times, he could melt her.
There's one really big secret that I don't wanna give away, but the author wrote this trauma with so much compassion and heart. I HURT for Dylan and could easily see how this could happen, and often does to many women.

Cohen has some real asshole moments that I wouldn't have been able to forgive if he didn't apologize so well. Loved that he and his brother were so close that his brother could help him recognize his own crap.

Side note *There's a scene near the beginning of the book that all women who have ever had their feet in those cold metal stirrups can relate to you. Is there a more awkward and vulnerable position? Could the medical community invent something better then cold metal duckbills pretty please?

This was a solid 4.5 stars for me! I thoroughly enjoyed it, and the half a mark was the fact that I did get very frustrated with the heroine more than once! "Inappropriate" was my first read from Elizabeth Finn, and I was not disappointed in the least. In fact, I was so pleasantly surprised. I actually found her writing to be very impressive, and at times her voice reminded me of one of my favorite authors; Nina Lane. I also enjoyed the fact that this book is from "the Bristol Island" series, and it hit me that it has that small town feeling that Robin Carr often writes in her Virgin River series. Even better with this series though, is that it not only has the small town community; but it has very explicit sex! Often when I am reading these kinds of books, I find the sex is very tame; but Ms. Finn goes all out in her sex scenes...and believe me...they are smokin!!!LOL

This story is book two in the series, and I will let you know that you can read it as a stand alone. I rarely do that, as I love to always start with book one; but in this case because I won the book I wanted to dive into right away. I was not disappointed--in the least! In this installment we meet an erotic author named Dylan, who has just moved into a cottage on Bristol Island. She has secrets though, and she picked this secluded island for a reason. Almost immediately, she meets the doctor on the Island; whom I choose to call..."Dirty talking Dr. Sexy!!!!" I am not exagerating either people...Cohen is a doctor you want to be introduced to! I am so in love with this guy! I have always thought of doctors as straight laced and boring!! (sorry in advance if there are doctors who are offended by my statement!) With Cohen though, he has peaked my attention in a very good way. This guy is so hot, kinky, and I already said a dirty talker. Man, he has a filthy mouth...and I loved every minute of it!! The sex between him and Dylan is beyond hot! This book needs to come with a warning...to read it with the fan on or something! LOL Whew! The other bonus with Cohen though, is he has a real sensitive side too. I enjoyed the fact that he was a strong alpha male character, who also was very in touch with his feelings. He had quite a vulnerable side and there was more than once my heart bled for him in this story.

Cohen and Dylan have a lot of strikes against them towards pursuing a relationship. Will they be able to over come the odds that are against them? There are times when my heart bled for them. I will say that Dylan, and some of her choices really ticked me off. To the point, if I could of reached in the book and slapped her..I would have!! She redeemed herself though, and I supposed I can forgive her for some of the torment she put the kind doctor through. I am still debating though, if I should just push her out of the way, and take him for myself!! LOL He would be so worth it!!

This is a must read folks!!! I highly recommend it. Not only does it have kinky, scorching sex...it is a book that has heart. It truly does, and I did fall in love with the writing in it. I am not going to lie...there is a ton of sex in this book. I didn't mind though!!! It has more to it though, and there are secondary characters that give me hope for more books to come. Mainly, the fine doctor's brother!! I want to read a book about him. Also, there is some great humor as well. It is a book that made me feel, and also painted a clear picture to me some of the frustrations of being an important career person in a small town, and how lonely that can be when several put you on a pedestal. I am so happy that I was able to give this book a try. I will be looking into this author a lot closer now. A very talented lady she is, and I always love it when I find someone new to add to my growing list of faves!

Thank you to "Reading Escapade Book Blog" for putting on a contest to win this book. And thank you so much to the author for gifting me a copy of this book after I won the contest! I am eager to dive in!

Dylan moves to Bristol Island and quickly gets to know her only neighbor, Cohen, who is quite yummy. Unfortunately, when she needs some birth control pills, she finds out Mr. Yummy is actually Dr. Yummy...and he has a friend Mr. Speculum that makes things really awkward.

Dylan was really interesting...I loved that she was a romance writer but of course, she has a secret and it takes a while to get to know what it is. The one thing we do know is that she hasn't been with a man for six years.

I really liked Cohen...for the most part. EF has a tendency to have her male leads says some cruel things. It's kind of hard for me to swallow especially when it's obvious some intense feelings are involved. BUT...what I really loved about Cohen was his opening up emotionally.

The problems start when Cohen gives Dylan her exam...he wants her and all along he knows he's crossing a line but being the only Doctor on the island has his hands tied. It's a constant push and pull through quite a bit of the book until he just can't resist any longer. Definitely makes for some great sexual tension and some hot sexual encounters. Oh and add into that Dr. Yummy is also Dr. Amazing Dirty Talker and what more could you want?

description

Things get even dicier when the resident bad guy, Randall, claims to know Dylan. Being the huge jerk that he is, he can't help but hit on her leaving her no choice but to hit him. And this is just the beginning domino!

Having Joss and Isaiah from the first book be such a huge part of the story made things even more amazing. I loved how much Joss was there for Dylan and how both of them really helped Dylan and Cohen when they really needed it.

Of course, there's going to be lots of drama. In those low moments, EF was really able to bring all those painful feelings to the surface and we got to "feel" every single, excruciating thing that Cohen was going through. Having his POV just allowed those screws to be tightened just a little more. And as shocking as his emotions were, I really enjoyed seeing that side. It was probably my favorite thing of the whole book.

A few of my least favorite things were just how dragged out things were. It felt like there wasn't any progress till the last possible moment. Sadly, there was also the issue of my pet peeve of over repetitive phrases...the huffing and puffing of breaths about drove me nuts! And lastly...my number one all time most least favorite things...the good ol' back door luvins'!

And I can't not mention Cohen's brother, Caleb. I loved those two together and Caleb is a crack up. I'm really hoping that he will move to the island and gets his own story.

I was so excited to get an epilogue although EF is really good about that. There were some predictable things but I just didn't really care because they were just wonderful.

I’ve been a fan of Elizabeth Finn for quite some time now.. her writing style never fails to suck me in with her hero’s that are always hot, women that are always interesting , usually a medium amount of angst –although in a few books the angst level rose to epic proportions- , and of course LOVE. Once again, Elizabeth has delivered and she did it in spades. I dare say, this may very well be my favorite book of hers to date. No lie. It was that good. It was so good, that as soon as I got finished reading it I went back and re-read all my highlighted pages. I enjoyed it that much. A story about two people that had a good bit working against them but the attraction and connection was so strong that it was impossible for them to stay away from each other.

On Bristol island, Cohen is the sexy single doctor and former marine. Bristol is very small community where everyone knows everyone and everyone is in each other’s business. Cohen is sweet and sexy.. strong and confident; he loves his job. He’s dedicated and dependable… He’s also a little lonely….. until he gets a brand new sexy neighbor.

Dr. Cohen Jessup....

Dylan is the newest resident to Bristol in need of a new start and trying to outrun a past that won’t quit following her. One mistake changed her life… Dylan is an erotic romance writer and the stories in her mind are completely opposite to the life she has been living for the last 6 years. She’s sweet and funny.. beautiful and a little shy. She’s fine being along, she actually prefers it that way. No man means she can’t be hurt….

Dylan

It was instant attraction for Dylan and Cohen from the start… Cohen had every intention of eventually asking her out and although Dylan was attracted to Cohen, she was prepared to try to keep him in the friend zone and just have a sexy and fun neighbor… no matter how much her body wanted him.

One moment changed everything… from possible to impossible. And highly awkward!! Imagine going to the doctor to get on birth control… getting in your gown, hopping up on the table.. and then your sexy neighbor walks in with a stethoscope and gloves….

Yep.. beyond awkward.. for both of them! He can’t be involved with a patient .. and he seriously wants this particular patient badly. And she’s about to have her vajay-jay on display for the sexy neighbor that she’d much rather have down there for very different reasons. Yep…. what a situation. But still, through all of that awkwardness , and even though any type of relationship between them would be inappropriate. They can’t stay away.. its impossible. They try to fight it… but it’s a losing battle.

“I’ve lost track of the reactions I have to you.” His fingers brushed along the hem, taunting her. “I don’t know how to stop wanting you..

But is wanting each other enough? Dylan’s past isn’t about to let her go, the town sleaze ball is intent on causing trouble, and then there is the whole ethical situation about doctor/ patient relationships. Nothing is going to be easy for Cohen and Dylan…. Is what they feel for each other enough?

I loved this story.. I loved Cohen and Dylan.. their chemistry was amazing and both characters were awesome. Sometimes one character will carry the story more than the other in a lot of books, but that is not so in this one. There was a fair amount of angst in this one.. but not too much. Although Cohen did piss me off several times.. I loved every minute of it.

If you are an Elizabeth Finn fan, then this is a MUST read for you… But even if you are not familiar with her books… if you love those hot sexy reads with just enough angst to keep your blood pumping, then this is for you too.

"And how exactly does one go about refusing to treat a patient? 'Sorry, ma'am, I can't stick a speculum up your pussy because I'd rather be fucking it'"."

This is the second Bristol Island tale, with Island native Doctor Cohen Jessup and new resident Dylan Corbett.

Dylan is a romance writer who is seeking solace and a quiet life. It's not long before her sexy neighbour is knocking on her door and she gets the inspiration for her new male lead in the book that she just started writing.

When Dylan turns up for her doctors appointment, she is mortified to find out who will be carrying out her pap test and pelvic examination.

What follows is a forbidden relationship between the only doctor on the island and the author who has a secret skeleton in her closet that upon discovery, would not be good for the good doctors name.
_ _ _ _

I liked this story, it had a good amount of angst and a lot of steamy moments. Elizabeth Finn has always been able to write a good sex scene and she didn't fail here. Cohen was very appealing and I was able to get a great visual of exactly what he would look like and his dirty mouth didn't disappoint either. You could see him really struggle with what was an ethical dilemma. Dylan was a bit of a let down for me though, I found her a bit bland and I didn't really learn much about her as a person but she had good chemistry with both Cohen and his brother Caleb.

As I said, I liked the story but it was just an OK read for me. It felt quite long with not much happening that was particularly interesting. If you like a forbidden romance and this may be for you.

This is a standalone. it contains characters from the first book in the series, The Fight for Us, but it is not necessary to have read it to understand this story.

4.5 hot, angsty and Inappropriate stars

And OMG, I loved it!

The second book in the Bristol Island series takes us back to the isolated community of Bristol, and an all-consuming yet forbidden romance between hot, local doctor, Cohen, and new-to-town, reclusive romance novelist, Dylan.

Cohen was born and raised on Bristol Island but left to pursue a medical career. He is now back as the only doctor in town and he lives a lonely life because of it – unable to become too involved with people in the community, so as not to breach the doctor/patient ethical code.

Dylan is running from her past and is hoping to find her escape on the island. She has just bought and moved into one of only two houses on a remote peninsula – and her neighbour just happens to be the hot doctor.

Immediately attracted to each other upon meeting, things go awry when Dylan needs medical attention , and Cohen is the only person who can give it to her, thereby ruining any chance of the two of them having an uncomplicated and ‘appropraite’ relationship.

“Have you ever made a quick impetuous decision, not really thinking of the consequences? You just.... say yes when you should have said no.”

OMG, this book is intense! You can feel the longing between both Cohen and Dylan. They want each other so much, are so drawn to each other that each little interaction between them is dripping with not only epic sexual tension, but a yearning that borders on painful!

It hurts to want something so much that you can’t have.

“I don’t know how to stop wanting you”

But epic lust and the promise of something more isn’t something that can be ignored, and amidst raging hormones, tension-filled gazes and inappropriate declarations, the angst levels are high as they try to resist the only thing either of them want. And it all comes to a head when Cohen decides that a chance with Dylan is worth the risk to his career and his reputation, and they both fall headfirst into an intense and passionate relationship.

“Does your skin tingle and prickle when I’m around like your entire body is desperate to be touched? … “Do your fingers tremble, your heart race, your throat tighten up as though it’s going to suffocate you if you don’t get what you need?”
“Yes,” she whispered. It was more than a damn good explanation.
“Does the thought of losing this make your insides turn black and your soul feel like it’s shattering into a thousand pieces?”

OMG, these two together are incredible. Cohen is sex on a stick, he likes it rough, he likes it frequent, and the man has a dirty, dirty mouth! Elizabeth Finn is a fan of graphic and descriptive love scenes and this book had me fanning myself on multiple occasions as Cohen and Dylan them cave into their sizzling chemistry. But it’s not all about the sex, they have a connection that is both deep and seemingly effortless – when it’s just the two of them, that is. But the problem is, real life for them and their situation is far from easy.

“I just want a chance at something more with you.”

Despite the ethical dilemma that comes from Cohen being in a relationship with a patient that he has treated intimately, Dylan is hiding a painful secret from her past that threatens to destroy not only her happiness with Cohen, but also further damage his future. And then there is Randall, the evil fucker that everybody loves to hate, and when he involves himself in the middle of the situation and starts to stir up drama, things get angsty, nasty, and totally heartbreaking.

I felt so much while reading this book! I was swept up in the romance, and absolutely devastated with all that Cohen and Dylan have to go through. It’s definitely not an easy road, but their love and passion for each other is incredibly strong, and watching them come together, work through their issues, and then stand strong to face their obstacles was absolutely fantastic. And OMG, sooooo freaking swoony!

“You are the best mistake I could have ever made, and if ever there was a rule to be broken, it was the one that would have made us impossible.” He pulled back, focusing on her. “I … regret … nothing.”

Cohen is incredible! Not only is he a nice guy with a huge heart (and a bit of a nasty side which is revealed in the bedroom), but he is real. He makes mistakes and he lashes out, but it just shows how passionate he is, and the man can grovel like a champion. He is willing to sacrifice everything for the woman he loves, and his determination to be with her no matter what absolutely stole my heart!

“I don’t want just one night with you,” he said. “I want so many we lose track.”

This book can technically be read as a standalone, but fans of the first book in the series, The Fight for Us, will be happy to know that there is lots of Isaiah and Joss in the story. Cohen is great friends with them both, and the couples become very close. I loved getting to see the two of them together and happy now that their dramas are all over.

We also get introduced to Cohen’s big brother, Caleb, and he is amazing! A total scene stealer, I absolutely love him. The brothers have an incredibly close relationship – the best of friends, they are loving and supportive, yet constantly throwing shit at each other. The interactions between them had me clenching my heart and then laughing at the way they tease. I so hope he gets his own book.

Once again Elizabeth Finn’s has written a story that grabbed hold of my heart, and didn’t let go. Hot and steamy, dramatic, funny, and beautifully romantic, I loved every moment of it.

I almost DNF'd at about 29%. I reread my friend Jen's review-- Then, I went back and read again to 41% or so. It was starting to get hot & heavy. There's a sweet meet cute. and awkward attractions (inappropriate?) No, I don't think so, but the small town folks might think otherwise.
There's a huge secret that Dylan is keeping. How it's discovered makes the situation worse.
I think that the personalities could have been more developed.
There is no shortage of sexy times. I was skimming a little in the middle. I rarely skim.
The secret relationship issue seemed to resolve itself. Hmmm I guess that it wasn't so wrong after all.
Isaiah & Joss from book 1 are great supporting characters. So is Cohen's brother Caleb. He's a wise cracking psycho therapist. Will he get move back to Bristol Island and get his own book?
I liked this story, but not nearly as much as book 1.
Thanks for the book loan Starsaga!

“Our past only has the power we give it, and I think you’re giving yours too much.”

We really enjoyed the first book in this series so excitedly jumped feet first into the waters of Bristol Island once again. This time to join Cohen and Dylan the single sexy neighbours; one a hot yummy Doctor – the other a slightly reclusive and mysterious Author. We should mention that although this is a series these books can be read as standalones.

‘The truth was she didn’t know how to stop wanting him. She didn’t know how to let that desire go. And she didn’t want to torment herself with him.’

The forbidden is always that much more enticing and there’s nothing more exciting and seductive than a brand new attraction or the initial feelings of want and lust. When Dylan meets her neighbour Cohen she falls immediately without knowing anything about this striking man. He immediately becomes a muse for her current work in progress and her imagination runs rampant. She’s not alone in this though as Cohen too has fallen under this demure author’s spell. However; nothing runs smoothly as encounter upon encounter leaves them in compromising situations that would seriously harm the career of our gorgeous Doctor as well as expose the past of the sweet Author with a huge ‘chip on her shoulder’.

‘He wanted to feel all of her – every inch. The woman he couldn’t ethically fuck, he wanted to fuck six ways to Sunday without a single socially acceptable barrier between them.’

Bloody hell this book was steamy; it felt new and slightly ‘confused as to what it wanted to be’ but in a good way. As in; there was no clear line of what would come next. It was hot and surprising. We loved Cohen’s filthy mouth and the frantic moments where he lost himself in the passion. These sure sent our pulses racing.

“You’re so afraid of the world.”

Where we did feel slightly lost in our lack of enjoyment was the repetitiveness and how we didn’t actually feel like we truly got to know our characters despite the intense focus on them. Sure we learnt what would keep their romance at bay and what brought them to the moment that would keep them apart. However; they felt like acquaintances of ours rather than our friends if that makes sense. Also; our other only issue was how a certain awkward situation kept rearing its cringe worthy head. We can’t say what this moment was because it’s an important part of the story-line. All we can say is that this ‘moment’ seriously bothered us to the point it actually hampered our enjoyment. Not the act itself; we’ve all been there; but the feelings that transpired and were felt in that moment. It was too awkward and uncomfortable for us and nowhere close to sexy. That could very well be a personal thing though and probably won’t bother all if any readers.

“I was thinking about…..touching you, tasting you, fucking you, what you would sound like coming.”

So yes, overall we did enjoy Dylan and Cohen’s story, however, it’s not our favourite in this series. What we will stress is that Elizabeth Finn is a fabulous writer; she has originality and there’s moments of such beauty and passion that evokes ever one of our book addict’s senses.

True to her style, Elizabeth Finn's Inappropriate pulls out all the emotions needed for an angsty and thought-provoking book, although nowhere near as angsty as Unforgiven. I know I keep coming back to that book when I review one of EF's other ones, but hey, I have yet to read a more angst-filled story than Unforgiven.

After a disastrous mistake that saw her life ruined six years ago, Dylan Corbett settles on Bristol Island; low population, remote, quiet. She's an author of erotic romances and hopes she can finally start living a life without being recognised. She isn't prepared to find her neighbour to be a smart, good looking man to whom she's attracted to. Given her past, however, she's reluctant to open up. She can't trust men.

Cohen Jessup is the only doctor on Bristol Island which makes him a bit of an outsider, considering he knows almost everybody's medical condition. Like Dylan, he is attracted to this stranger whose cottage he can see from his house. Before he can make a move though, she visits his clinic for a pelvic exam to get herself back on the pill for the painful menstrual periods. Up until then, she's had no clue that he was a doctor. This puts them in a delicate situation. Either she waits for an appointment on the main land for another seven weeks, or she lets Cohen examine her which makes any emotional or sexual development between them impossible. It would a breach of the doctor-patient relationship and therefore unethical. Oh dear, that scene of the examination was really, really awkward, to a point where I thought about skipping it. But that's Elizabeth Finn for you: She won't shy away from the uncomfortable.

This and Dylan's mysterious past are the main conflicts Dylan and Cohen are facing, and Elizabeth Finn finds the right balance between exploring their growing feelings for each other and the ever present threat looming over them. The story flows easily, the characters' progress a steady journey to the inevitable - and very very steamy - conclusion. At no point was I bored or annoyed, but I wasn't swept away either, if that makes sense.

The first half of the book is all about Dylan and Cohen trying to find a common ground to rein their feelings in and failing gloriously at it. The second half, however, becomes dark. Not as in Erotica-Dark, but more the reality of something that has almost become a normal phenomenon. I'll put this under a spoiler-tag because it's revealed in the last third of the book.

The issue of Dylan's past - which I consider as one of the ultimate betrayals a human being can experience - is delicately handled. Cohen's reaction, however, is anything but delicate. But here's what makes Elizabeth Finn stand out as an author to me. She gives Cohen space to explore his initial response to Dylan's secret, and shows that even a good person like Cohen can be taken over by basic human flaws. Her characters are never larger than life; they make mistakes, and even though I could have slapped Cohen, the author gives her hero the time to re-think his position and redeem himself. Personally, I prefer these flawed characters. Hell, if every person made the right choices in life, we would all be living in heaven. No, bad choices come with consequences, and Elizabeth Finn has the talent to weave enough layers into her stories to give her characters something that feels real. Actually, there was another instance earlier in the book where I could have slapped him, but he isn't an unlikable character. Rather rash at times.

As I mentioned already, this book is very steamy and explicit. But unlike in other generic books, these scenes never appear to be gratuitous. They reflect the different emotional stages both MCs are in at that moment. Additionally, it takes quite a while till the sexy times commence.

Inappropriate is not flawless, the ending a little to neat. Given the angst that I had to go through as the reader, however, I think it's okay if everything clicks into place a little too perfectly. Although part of of a series, and the MCs of the first book have strong secondary roles in this book, this one can be read as a stand-alone. In fact, the secondary characters, especially Cohen's brother Caleb, gave Dylan and Cohen the much needed outer perspective when one finds herself/himself in a dilemma.

Inappropriate (Bristol Island #2) by Elizabeth Finn
5 stars!!

“To err is human; to forgive, divine.”

I have read the majority of Elizabeth Finn’s books and I can easily say that this is her best one yet. Elizabeth Finn is one of those authors that are still relatively unknown and her work needs to be read, it deserves to be read. She always pens a perfectly balanced book full of angst, emotion and romance. As soon as I started reading Inappropriate I was hooked and I was pulled into the tiny place known as Bristol Island and more importantly the story of Dylan and Cohen.

Dylan was Bristol Islands newest resident, she was a romance/erotic author and was also running from her past, so what sanctuary could be better than an Island with a tiny population and one that was way out of the way from civilisation as we know it. The peace and tranquillity should prove to be the perfect back drop for some productive writing.

Cohen was Dylan’s one and only neighbour and being the courteous professional that he was he made the introductions. After a couple of meetings it soon becomes apparent that they have an intense attraction to each other, but Cohen seems reticent to take that step and romance is definitely not on Dylan’s agenda, especially considering her already growing six year sabbatical from the male population.

Dylan needs to see a doctor for birth control to ease her monthly stomach ripping cramps and after consulting with the practice off the Island and finding out there was a seven week wait she decides to go to the small clinic situated on the Island. It is here that she finds out that Cohen is actually Dr Cohen and after needing a PAP before her birth control can be prescribed, the Doctor/Patient relationship becomes real and seemingly puts an end to any potential romantic relationship between the two.

“And how exactly does one go about refusing to treat a patient? ‘Sorry, ma’am, I can’t stick a speculum up your pussy because I’d rather be fucking it?”

Dylan creates what she cannot have in her books, her perfect man and at present she is struggling with the male character she is currently writing about. Her one and only handsome neighbour ends up taking over her thoughts as well as her fingers that fly across the keyboard and so her newest male character suddenly morphs into one handsome Doctor and the words just keep coming.

Cohen was such a good guy and an excellent Doctor and even though Dylan invaded every thought, every second of every day he just couldn’t bring himself to act upon them. He prided himself on his ethics and not crossing those lines but the more they interacted the more his thoughts and those lines blurred. Being the only Doctor on the Island had its drawbacks, was he destined to forever be a monk when every woman he was surrounded by was ethically off limits.

“His body was strong, but he was starting to question whether there was any strength of character in himself at all.”

This was a longer book but when I was reading it never felt that way. I was totally engrossed in Dylan and Cohen’s story and I just couldn’t put it down. Elizabeth Finn has always manages to pen fantastic love scenes and this book is no different. The chemistry was palpable and their connection was tangible. Every warring thought, every sly look and touch came to life through some magical words that totally grabbed my attention and tugged at my emotions. Forbidden love always has that sense of fear and the unknown and as you read you just know that despite their best efforts to keep it under wraps, that on a small island where everyone knows everyone and gossip is rife that their private life will not remain private for very long.

“You are the best mistake I could have ever made, and if ever there was a rule to be broken, it was the one that would have made us impossible…I…regret…nothing.”

Dylan and Cohen’s struggles were real; their story was beautifully written and intensely engaging. My heart hammered at times and I shed quite a few tears. It seems everything is against them, between their jobs and Dylan’s past. I loved the fact that Cohen was a closet alpha, he was a squeaky clean Doctor on the outside but behind closed doors he was intense and this was perfectly portrayed in those scenes.

“Our past only has the power we give it, and I think you’re giving yours too much.”

It was great to catch up with Joss and Isaiah from The Fight For Us (book 1) in this series and I loved meeting Cohen’s brother Caleb. He was a total character and I hope that he is the character up next in this series; I bet he has a very interesting tale to tell. I cannot wait for more!!

“What could have been, what would have been, what should have been. We should have been.”

1/23 downgraded to 4 stars after re reading. Read during my early GR giddy years, lol, everything I read during that phase was "great".

I'm a big Finn fan, so it goes without saying that I enjoyed this book. Still......for some reason this one was hard for me (because of a scene fairly early in the book) and I had to read the last 1/4 of the book so that I would have the courage to go on knowing how everything worked out. Odd I know, but that's just how my emotional baggage rolls.

When I saw that Elizabeth Finn ("Finn") released a second novel in the "Bristol Island" series, I was very excited to get my hands on it. I had read the first novel in the series, "The Fight For Us," which I absolutely loved. Unfortunately, as much as I liked "Inappropriate" it wasn't anywhere near as great as the first one. For whatever reason, things didn't start to get interesting until about the half-way mark, which of course made the story feel like it was dragging on needlessly. It really felt long and drawn-out to the point I wasn't sure if I was going to continue. As for the protagonists, Dylan and Cohen, both were likeable and they had great chemistry when they got together. Once again Finn shines as she never fails to give her readers steamy and erotic sexcapades that will most definitely leave them hot and bothered. I loved that both Joss and Isaiah were included in this book, the couple that rocked in book one. I will say that I enjoyed Caleb, Cohen's brother, who made the story a little more enjoyable. I don't know what it was but there was something missing, bothering me about this story. The more I think about it the more I feel it was the H/h. Yes, they're likeable but there were times I felt they came across as immature. Also, the whole saga about the conflict of Cohen treating Dylan as a patient and wanting to date her, as much I do understand it, it just felt like too much time was spent on it. It's a good story, but not one that I thought should've been that big a deal. Maybe I'm wrong, but it's what I feel. In the end, a likeable story, just not as great as book one.
