Zeke Powers should’ve come with a warning label.

He was hot.

He was sexy.

And he was a bad boy through and through.

The things he said to me had me blushing and my toes curling.

But he was someone I totally didn’t need walking into my life, screwing up the plans I’d made and turning my world upside down.

Although I’d been living a no-frills, no-fun existence, I felt it was necessary to get where I was going. Keep your eye on the prize and all that.

But Zeke was determined to prove to me that what I desired most—him—was just what I needed.

3.5 stars!!

Zeke follows Gable’s big brother, Ezekiel “Zeke” Powers and ladylove Scarlett O’Rourke.

Scarlett is an understandable and sympathetic heroine, as she represents many of us with bad luck on our side trying to make it through work and school.

With an absent mom, a dad always on the road for work, and a grandmother getting up there on age and living on her scant social security checks; Scarlett has had to take some time off of school just to help support her family while acting as a surrogate mother and sister to her teenage brother.

Now back in school and working at a local Breakfast Bar, she meets football goldenboy, Zeke, who has a keen eye on her and is relentless in pursuing her.

Only catch is—is that Scarlett does NOT date. Not after being burned before and all that she has going for her on her neverending plate.

Can Zeke break down Scarlett’s walls and convince her to give him?…them?.. a chance?

And Scarlett. Can Scarlett muster all of her insecurities and let them go to pave way for love? For a future? And ignore all traces of self doubt.

So…

Zeke was an all around likable read that I read straight through in one sitting.

As the eldest Power brother, I was super excited to dive into Zeke’s story and to dive into big brother sir’s love life and everything outside.

While I did find him smexy and totally the ultimate alpha male boyfriend that I’d love to have and smother, I also did wish that he had a more defined personality and was fleshed out more throughout. I didn’t exactly feel as if I could grasp who Zeke was, not to mention, I just couldn’t get my head around how he handled situations with Scarlett, his ex, and his female admirers.

As for Scarlett, I will once again summarize her as being “understandable” and “sympathetic” as she truly was. Dealt with the hand of cards she’s been given in her short life, I could comprehend why she was timid, afraid, and cautious to let down her guard to anyone, in fear of that they may let her down or leave.

My only qualms with her fell into the aspects that I felt her character to feel weak and wishy-washy at times, and make a humongous deal over situations that she jumped to hasty conclusions over.

Like I said before, I got her plights and her conditioning. I did. But sometimes she was a bit dramatic, indecisive and pretty vapid. Made me think her personality was not all that there at times.

Otherwise, I thought her and Zeke matched perfectly as both are rather passionate, hot-headed individuals whose fates are entwined by a series of “encounters” and how they’re forever changed by one another.

I’m now hoping for Ryker’s story to be next and hopefully Loch’s will follow simultaneously right after. Gah, I am so, so excited for this! You wouldn’t even believe how much! Hehe.

Anyway, a good follow up to Gable! And bring on more Power men hotties! ♥

I found myself more into this second book of “The Powers That Be” series as Scarlett O’Rourke meets football player and hotness Zeke Powers. Oh, wow!! And HOT he totally is!! Holy s**t! The most popular and gorgeous guy on the Hallervan University campus and he’s talking to her? This must be a mistake!! But, Scarlett is leary of him. Her track record with guys that do nothing but cheat on her is redundant. It’s agonizing to always be on the receiving end of such betrayal. She just can’t let her guard down and let him get a peak of her heart. She knows that she could really fall for this guy, however. That doesn’t stop Zeke, though, from pursuing her. What happens when Scarlett decides to take a chance on Zeke? Will he break her heart like all the others? Or, will they both find their “one”?

Scarlett was a strong hard-working young woman helping to raise her teenage brother as her dad works the life of a truck driver and her granny is aging. Yes, she was scared to get involved with Zeke, but I felt that she had a real valid reason to feel that way. It’s a feeling that was always going to be in the back of her mind until Zeke really shows her the type of caring and compassionate man that he really is. There were points in the story when I felt Scarlett should have talked to Zeke more when she had questions and was feeling insecure. And, there was also one time when I felt that Zeke should have explained to Scarlett what was really going on because he knew of her insecurity with men in the past cheating on her. But, they ended up figuring it out in the end. Most of the book was sweet and romantic until I felt that one incident was a little far-fetched, but that’s the beauty of fiction. Just about anything can happen, and it doesn’t have to be believable. I thought that Zeke and Scarlett were perfect together, and they made this book memorable. So, looking forward to reading Loch’s story next...

“I felt it was a legitimate theory but secretly hoped she was right, but I couldn’t say I still wasn’t just a little paranoid. I mean, three guys had cheated on me. In a freaking row. That kind of does something to a girl’s self-esteem. You know, fool me once, shame on you, fool me three times, I’m just a poor judge of character. Or bad in bed.” ~ Scarlett (pg. 32)

“See, I saw this gorgeous woman working in a little breakfast place I stopped by on a whim one morning. Watched her taking care of her customers, always making sure they had everything they needed. Saw she was sweet, genuine and that’s when I knew I had to have her.” ~ Zeke (pg. 92)

“Let me be your hero, Scarlett.” His hand went to the back of my head and he pulled me in for a hot kiss. ~ Zeke (pg. 94)

And what an awesome cover!!

This book was so frustrating and made me wanna pull a few hairs out. I didn't like the characters, the story, the conclusion. It just did nothing for me and I wanna forget I ever read it.

Scarlett was annoying the whole way through. Her behavior made me embarrassed for her. She seemed like a pretty level headed girl the rest of the book so how she became a complete klutz in the beginning all because of a good looking guy was baffling. Her insecurity issues while understandable at first, became very annoying and got old quick, the way she ran like a scared cat instead of confronting him or just breaking up with him. She had some moments where she was justified with ignoring him but for the most part she kept her feelings bottled up and it blew up in her face.

Zeke, I didn't like either. I didn't like his methods in changing her mind because she wouldn't agree to go out with him. He didn't handle certain situations the way he should have and confused the heck out of Scarlett. His cockiness really bothered me and at times I felt like he was just playing with her. There was no interest shown on his part at first, he showed a lot of amusement in the beginning, but his behavior didn't tell me she caught his eye. I was suspicious of him for the first half of the book because he seemed so shady and unaffected. His speech also seemed to change after they'd got together which was just weird when he forgot the word "I" existed.

They both acted like teenagers rather than twenty something adults in college.there was so much back and forth drama it gave me a headache. I didn't enjoy this book at all and am even contemplating whether or not I'll read the others in their series. When they finally had their big blowout, I didn't even know whose side I was on because they were both wrong but yet rightly justified in their actions at the same time. Together, they're combustible, they're just really a hot mess. It worries me that theirs HEA isn't really that at all but a HFN and that they're gonna have an ugly divorced at some point down the road and fighting over custody of three kids, the house, and the pets and a year later get remarried again. I just don't believe 100% that they're solid.

Man, the Powers brothers! I could probably stop there but I will also tell you that I read this book in one sitting (only complaint: I wish it was longer). I fell in love with Zeke but also with the heroine, Scarlett. I tend to be uncomfortable with women who do not know their own worth but Scarlett had reason to question herself and, when she needed it, she had plenty of backbone. I love books with truly good people in them and Scarlet, her family and the Powers brothers were all good, kind people. This was a great story and a joy to read. Can't wait to read more.

Another smoking hot Powers boy bites the dust. Scarlett has some serious insecurity. Overall a good read. I really love that the last chapter is again from Zeke's POV since the rest of the book was all Scarlett.

3.5-4 I liked this one a little more than I liked Gable. But I think it's cause I found myself relating to Scarlett :) full review on bk #1 and 2 coming soon (you can also find it on my blog www.mynightreads.wordpress.com)

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.

I just read Gable, bk 1, a few days ago and I think I enjoyed this one a lot more. There was more going on with the characters. It felt deeper, like we actually got to see more into their relationship and did not go as fast as the first. I like that Scarlett is really responsible and I understand her hardships in what she has had to go through in life. Especially the fact that she really cares about her younger brother and has had to take care of him. It rare when you come across a book where someone takes a lot of their time to decide to take care of their family, even if it means putting their own life on hold. And Zeke was a sweetheart too. You could really tell that he liked Scarlett and meant a lot to him. Especially how he interacted with her brother and grandmother. I am really excited to read Loch’s story next.

The only thing I liked about this book was the MC.

The editing was a joke, the FC was so horrible I had trouble reading parts of it and the story seemed poorly thought out.
If I hadn’t paid for it I would have flounced the first time the FM claimed to know what others thought, or what was happening that she couldn’t see. Apparently she could read minds.

Towards the end I just wanted Zeke to tell her to go to hell and go find himself some other girl.

Yeah, so three boyfriends had cheated on her and asked for a threesome, which seriously is the most unbelievable thing I ever heard. One would have been enough and left her with some serious trust issues, especially since they were engaged to be married. Having it happen three times? No, that just ruined it for me.
I get that she was gunshy, but having her accuse him of being in love with someone else – which she KNEW he was, again with the mindreading – not once, but twice and actually have the gall to accuse HIM of not trusting HER??

No, I’m giving this two stars, and that is ONLY because of Zeke.

Well, I didn't think that there was any way for Gable to be overthrown as the Powers King. But, it happened. Zeke Powers is now my favorite Power!! Holy crap- you cannot help but fall for this man. He reaches right into your soul, and just captures it.
He saw Scarlett, and just knew- she was it for him. He didn't question it- ever. Even when she did, and believe me, she questioned it. A lot. Poor Scarlett, I felt so bad for all of her former heartache- and honestly wondered for a second if she wasn't a tiny bit cursed, in the romantic department.
So, I certainly understood her trepidation in the matter of accepting Zeke into her heart. And, I was ecstatic that he NEVER gave up the fight for her. Not once. Even when we all thought he was down and out- he stayed true to the course, and won.
These Powers boys are most certainly a force to be reckoned with, and the series is easily one of my faves. I adore Harper's books, and can't wait to get my hands on the next one!! 5 HUGE stars!!!

I enjoyed this book as much as I enjoyed Gable.

Either book can be read as a stand-alone.

Zeke is just awesome. Thankfully for Scarlett, he's not a quitter, he's a lover, a fighter, a hot as hell, cocky little thing; because she was so insecure for most of the book. I wanted to slap her. I know it was hard for her to trust, but that almost ruined a good thing. So yea, she is lucky that Zeke has alot of patience, and that he fell for her, because that would suck, to lose what she had,, over stupid, insecurity, and life planning events, lol.

Other than that I liked Scarlett as well.

All the characters were great. The story was excellent. Couldn't get to the end fast enough, anxious to see what happens, and nervous, the whole thing was gonna blow up; but it didn't, it was very satisfying.

Thanks for another great book, looking forward to others.

What is there not to love about the Power’s brother, absolutely nothing. Zeke is the oldest out of the four and like Gable, has a dirty mouth but when he sets his sight on the beautiful dark hair waitress he knew that she was the one for him. Scarlett, that poor girl has had loser after loser after loser. I don’t blame her one bite for being the way she was. I’ve been cheated back to back like her and went thru a dry spell before I let my walls down and let him in. Zeke is a the hot all-star about to go pro football player and although he started out being the playboy, has a heart of gold and goes after what he wants and Scarlett is the lucky girl.

You won’t be disappointed, just left wanting more of the Power’s brothers.

Eh Zeke was great. Scarlett, not so much

I think I could have loved this book if it weren't for Scarlett. She drove me crazy. She, in theory, was a great character. Responsible, strong for her family, good heart. But she was just beyond immature when it came to Zeke. The stuff she blurted out...just odd. Her insecurities toward Zeke I got, but her responses and actions were just childish. The whole 'not saying I love you' thing...ridiculous. accusing him of cheating basically twice in 2 days w 2 different women...I wanted to bang my head. I felt bad for Zeke cause he had been nothing short of great with her. I enjoyed Gables story, thought the humor was great...this one just felt forced...

3.5 Zeke Stars

Good story . Second in Series, but I preferred the first book. Ironically, I commented in my review of Gable that I had not found the heroine to be annoying when many others had. In this book I found this heroine, Scarlett, really quite annoying at times. I liked Zeke and I enjoyed the story but the heroine made me give it a lower rating . She was immature and jumped to some awful conclusions. Zeke, Lane and Grammy were great characters though.

These Brothers are amazing!

I really enjoyed this book. Zeke was amazing. He is the guy every girl wants. Scarlett I really liked but her insecurities really got old. She started to become annoying. I liked her brother. The book was a great reading, I truly enjoyed and am looking forward to reading about the other brothers.

Enjoyed this one more then the first. Zeke was sweet, if a tiny bit overly friendly with his exes! *lol* Also, someone should let KA know that one of her alphas escaped from her books! For a minute I thought I was back reading Luke/Ava from the Rock Chick series.

Better then the first!

❤️🌼🔥ZEKE IS THE OLDEST OF THE POWERS BROTHERS...RIGHT NOW HE’S MY FAVORITE❤️🌼🔥

So, Scarlett O’Rourke catches Zeke Powers’s attention while working as a waitress, and, he goes back day after day.....and Scarlet isn’t dead....she notices every time, because he always sits in her section, and although ALL of the Powers brothers are well known on Hallervan’s campus by everyone, ESPECIALLY THE GIRLS, Scarlett doesn’t know who he is until her friend and co-worker tells her....❤️🌼🔥
I loved this story....it’s sweet and sexy and a fun read....Scarlett and Zeke have lead completely different lives, but there is so much heat between them, you might need to wear oven mitts to hold your kindle....There’s just two HUGE problems....Scarlett has taken the responsibility of her whole family on her back and has been burned so many times by the opposite sex, she trusts none of the male species.....LUCKILY, Zeke sees his future, loves the chase, goes after what he wants and doesn’t believe in the word no when it comes to Scarlett❤️🌼🔥
This is definitely a book and a series worth reading, and what I’ve heard of Harper Bentley’s writing is all true....I’m moving on to LOCH...❤️🌼🔥

Instant Lush, or love!!!!

Zeke is the oldest out of his brothers, he is also going pro football.... Zeke has girls all over him but he seems to only want Scarlett, who isn't interested in dating because she has responsibilities like taking car of her teenage brother and not having a lot of money because their mother left them in debt, so her dad is on the go being a trucker, she is trying to work hard to open her own bakery business some day.... She couldn't even afford the book they needed for their class and Zeke saw her and said they could share.... She also afraid to date because her last boyfriend of two years ago cheated on her.... Zeke corners her while she was walking by the school gym and kinda tells her he will take her on a date and pick her up.... She seems skeptical with Zeke because she has been cheated on by all her boyfriends.... So she was fighting the attraction she had for him.... He didn't allow her to run, he chased her.... Her brother loved him and knows all about his football career....

No feels

The first book, Gable was awesome, and I guess I was expecting the same. There was nothing about Scarlett and Zeke that tugs at the heart. I couldn’t pinpoint anywhere in the book that would indicate that they would be in love. What I did like was little pieces here and there where Gable and Scout made appearances. I’m not sure I’m going to read the next book, Loch. I don’t want to be disappointed.

I just finished Zeke and it was everything I'd been hoping it would be. Who doesn't love a bossy, persistent, steam-rolling, alpha hero? Can you say yum? Harper Bentley, once again, brings an amazing story of love, believable struggles, and sexiness to the table and I, for one, can't wait to get my hands on the other two Powers brothers... (Maybe she can bring some cousins into the series or something so she keeps going with these hotties whew!)

I did not like the characters, the last 1/4 of the book I was just thinking GOD SCARLETT is an IDIOT ! and so is Zeke, I couldn't wait to finish. also, Zekes dialog with Scarlett was a complete rip off of Kristen Ashleys Tack when he was talking to Red. Scarletts father didn't even need to be mentioned in the book he was a non-character.

Story line too chopped up.

Harper could have written the dialog a lot smoother. Loved the story of Scarlett and Zeke, but was just all over the place at times. If Scarlett wasn't 23 ,I think I was reading a teenage high school story.
