Trust doesn't come easily to senator's daughter Cadence Payne—especially after her disastrous engagement. Dating is no longer at the top of her to-do list, no matter how persistent fellow attorney Blake Barrington may be. Yet the sexy, notorious lawyer makes a very convincing argument. Cadence is almost tempted to give in…until Blake's implicated in a scandal and hires her to defend him!
Little by little, Blake is getting past Cadence's defenses and giving a whole new meaning to attorney-client privilege. But days and nights spent in close proximity prove dangerously distracting. If Blake loses this case, his career, Cadence's reputation and their romance will all be in jeopardy. Can he convince her to believe in him despite her fears—or is he gambling with his future and her heart?
This was my first read of this author after learning about her in the hair salon! I must say as an avid reader I am thoroughly pleased by this book. For this being the authors first published work it has a well developed plot and in depth characters. When I first began to read I was afraid Blake would just we another rich playboy and Cadence would just be a frigid woman. My perceptions were far from accurate. Not only were these two characters likable, so were the other peripheral ones. I can't wait to read about the other Barrington brothers. I must also include that having this series set in my "neighborhood" didn't hurt its appeal.
Cadence Payne, an attorney and daughter of a senator, is reluctant to get into another relationship after her recent disastrous one. Blake Barrington is also an attorney who runs a firm along with his brother. He works at convincing Cadence to give him a chance. They are well on their way to a successful relationship when Blake finds himself caught up in a scandal. In order to prove his innocence and convince Cadence to give him another chance he hires Cadence and her law firm to represent him. The outcome of this case may be the deciding factor for where this relationship goes.
Not bad. The hero was a bit pushy at times but sweet, and I like how he helps underprivileged kids and youth. I also liked the heroine's career subplot, and I understand how her father's influence made her keep the hero at arm's length. I thought the hero was super understanding of how she seemed unable to fully believe in his innocence (or at least express her support) during a super difficult time in his life.
This first book was pretty good....The characters seemed believable, and the situations were alright to handle. I could just tell it was someone's "first' book because there was WAAAAY more she could have done with all the plot details that was put into it. ... Interested in reading the other stories of the other brothers, hopefully their stories will be a little more developed.
Such an amazing book, full of romance. Quite a few unexpected events, kept you wondering. Great read.Loved how the author put you there in those steamy scenes.
This book wasn’t really working for me. I love a romance starring lawyers but the hero is an irresistible ass? And I didn’t get a good read on the heroine.
Her Chance At Love By Nicki Night is her debut novel introducing us to the first of the three Barrington Brothers. Night introduces us to Hunter, Blake and Drew, Her Chance At Love focuses on the very handsome middle Barrington brother, Blake who is a lawyer and has no problems getting what he wants when it comes to the ladies, until he meets Cadence Payne who is also an attorney and recently engaged but not married and has decided to put dating on the back burner and focus solely on her career. Blake is determined to get what he wants.
I met this author at a literary event and decided to support this author on her new book, I am glad I picked this up because I would have missed out on a great romance, I really enjoyed Blake and Cadence's love story, the thing I enjoyed most was the dates Blake took Cadence on there was nothing traditional about them and I appreciated that and it gave me some ideas, if you want to read a great romance I highly recommend this book. I really hope Drew Barrington's story is next.
I enjoyed the reading Her Chance at Love. It was a good story of a love connection between Blake Barrington & Cadence Payne. The main conflict of an impending arrest and disgrace that the hero, Blake was facing enhanced the storyline. What I would have loved to see was a real villain- like character whose intent was to bring this Barrington brother down. Kerry, Cadence's nemesis was just a gnat that was easily swatted away, and Senator Banks was just too nice, although very guilty. A good story that could have been a lot better, I think, with a real nemesis with real evil intent. I recommend the book.
I really liked this book. It could have been a 4 star for me but there were just somethings in the story that bothered me. I really liked Cadence and Blake as a couple but I didn't like how Cadence pushed Blake away at the first sign of trouble. It seems like she was a holding back in the relationship due to what happened in a prior relationship. I was a curious about her ex since he came up a few times and wish that was explored a little. Other than that great story and looking forward to the next book.
I enjoyed this debut novel by Nicki Night, lawyers and politics don't make a smooth batter. In the case of Cadence Payne daughter of a Senator and Blake Barrington one of three handsome lawyers this cake may never bake. The dynamics between characters is real. I could see the eye rolling, hear the mumbling, feel the animosity and disappointment. Follow this story from friendship, to loss of trust, the court room and back again. Looking forward to Drew's story (less)
Her Chance At Love is a wonderful and delightful debut novel by Nicki Night. Loved the story's flow and Cadence and Blake's happily ever after. It goes to show that love is better the second time around. Patiently awaiting the next book in the Barrington Brothers series. A marvelous read to add to your romance collection.
Cadence Payne doesn't trust easily and that is true with Blake Barrington. As they become friends and get to know each other, a situation develops that makes her distance herself from him. Blake is determined to prove he's innocent and regain Cadence's trust and love.
I Love the fact even though Candace didn't know how to deal with her feelings for Blake on top of the scandal going on with Blake she worked to clear his name. And also followed her heart in the process to her one true love.
Candance made me want to pop a gasket. You know you want to hurt a character when you begin to harass the author on social media. Poor Blake. I still kinda think Candance was unworthy of him...ijs.. But you have to read the book to find out why. LOL
This is the 2nd book I read by Nicki Night. This book's story line was okay. I liked Blake's character. I didn't like Cadence's character. I didn't like how Cadence treated Blake. I think this story needed more chemistry. I didn't felt enough spark between Cadence & Blake.
