Objectify Me

Rate this book
Seattle law student Levi Borovski has been ceremonially dispatched from his family home to “get over himself” as his mother not so politely puts it. For the last year he’s been experimenting with living by orthodox Jewish traditions and it’s driven his liberal secular parents crazy. To make matters worse, the nice Jewish medical student for whom he put in all this effort has just gotten engaged to someone else. Why Levi’s mother thinks spending Mardi Gras in New Orleans will improve his mood is something of a mystery, but at this stage he’s pretty much ready to try anything. So when his frat buddies ditch him to take off on some drug dealer’s riverboat Levi is left to his own devices in the Big Easy, determined, despite everything to let the good times roll.

Charlotte Gibbs doesn’t exactly hate her demeaning job as a lap dancer in the high end French Quarter gentlemen’s club, Objections. It’s good money and the attention she gets from her mostly rich lawyer clientele satisfies her ego enough that her perpetual singlehood no longer feels like a voodoo curse. Tourists can be a pain though, and Mardi Gras week is especially bad. Still, a hard-working girl like Charlotte is entitled to have a little fun sometimes. So when an adorably drunk but sincere West Coast college boy invites her for a drink, Charlotte decides to take a chance.

Neither of this mismatched set of misfits imagines that the magic of Mardi Gras will rub off on them in quite such a sexy, dramatic and life changing way. When the sun comes up on New Orleans will they find a way to make this unexpected magic last?

I received this book in exchange for a honest review.

‘Objectify me’ is the second novella in the series ‘Fireworks’. You don’t have to read the first book to read this one. It can be read as a standalone.

For the past year, Law student Levi Boronsky has been in love with a nice Jewish medical student. Because he believed that she came from an orthodox Jewish family, he has tried to live by the orthodox Jewish traditions, all in the hope that someday she would fall in love with him. But that didn’t happened. Instead she got engaged to someone else! That left Levi heartbroken and in a bad mood. His parents are sick of this and so his mother has send him to New Orleans to celebrate Mardi Gras there, in the hope that he will get over his bad mood. So, now he’s in New Orleans with his two best friends to party. Only Levi isn’t in the mood to party and especially not on some drug dealer’s riverboat. So he leaves his friends behind to go back to their hotel but he ends up in the high end gentlemen’s club ‘Objections’ where he meets Charlotte.

Being a lap dancer in the gentlemen’s club ‘Objections’ wasn’t what Charlotte had in mind when she was young but circumstances in her life has force her to find a good paying job. This job allows her to take care of her father, herself and to pay of her debts. So she can’t really complaint about it. Life is going by without much excitement until that one evening when she meets a cute college boy from Seattle at her workplace. She never expected that this meeting would lead to something more.

Because how could they have known that this one night will change their lives forever?!
That one unexpected meeting could grow in something?

I really enjoyed this story. The story was much more than I expected from a novella. Wow! That was one night that Charlotte and Levi had. I really liked both Charlotte and Levi. They were both very sweet. I liked that. The story was a little more ‘darker’ then I thought but that wasn’t bad. The story was well writing. I haven’t read the first novella in this series but after reading this I’m now very curious about it.

I received a complimentary copy for an honest review.

This short novella was a quick read and a perfect way to pass the evening while at the lake!

What I loved:
Levi and Charlotte: I loved these two. Well developed and their "voice" was realistic and believable. I love stories with "good" guys. Don't get me wrong, bad-boy stories are fun, too...but bad-boys and cocky athletes only go so far. Stories with nice guys who are respectful to the ladies are more realistic in my mind. Levi was adorable--so stinkin' adorable. And let's not forget about Charlotte--a strong, whitty, independent female who can hold her own? LOVE.

Insta-love: I am not a huge fan of insta-love. But for this story...it works. There is a connection, most definitely! And for those who aren't fans of that, I encourage you to give this book a shot, because you might find yourself making an exception.

Humor when appropriate: There were some laugh out loud moments (including one with an electric toothbrush). I won't give away the details, but I hope you find yourself laughing, too.

What I didn't care for:

Over all...this was a great story and one that I'd most definitely read again!

Well this is a really short book, but you know you get it when you realise that is because the story really happened over a weekend, and then you are like wooh how that happened!! I think Levi is such a sweet boy, well let say he is a wonderful gentleman and Charlotte is such a woman, like he loves the spotlight on her own terms but what else can you say about that I love that she is a really independent woman that try to take care of his father even thought he wasn't the perfect one and I admire that.
About the relationship between Levi and Charlotte, let me tell you this: that's completely connection at first sight. That's it. The way they both feel for each other it's so unexpected that made you think if really are people in this world that feels exactly the same with someone they just met... Well the point is that I like the story, even tough I would have like that Levi's friends were a little more involved on the plot, and that the begging of the book were more extensive because Levi's first chapter made me want to pull out my hair because was a little confusing. But the rest I think it's okay. Thank you for the opportunity.

** I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review **

This was my first read by this author and it was ok. It is a novella so it is pretty short and the events happen pretty quick. That being said, for me, it was rushed. There were a lot of different things happening in this book over a single weekend. It wasn't difficult to follow, it just seemed like too much.

I liked both main characters. Charlotte was relatable as a character and so was Levi. Character development was good for such a short read.

For me, though, it was a little far fetched for H/h to have insta-connection the way they did AND have life altering events take place as well. For that reason, it was hard for me to really connect with this one.

Received in exchange for a review.

Quick read in one sitting.

Decent story. Likable characters. Levi isn't the typical hero you get in books so it was refreshing, You don't find too many Jewish boys so that was a nice change, too. Charlotte was okay.

Your normal trip to New Orleans for Mardi Gras that doesn't go as planned.

The ending felt rushed and not very believable to me.

Unique read.

I don't think I've ever read a book like this before. It definitely kept my attention the whole time. The Levi and Charlotte are different than anything I've ever read. I really enjoyed this book, and I loved the way it ended.
